Riptide Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Brigantine, NJ, 9-04-10

    2 Sep 2010, 2:54 PM

The 5th Annual Riptide Striper Derby will begin on September 20, 2010 and run through December 26, 2010. This tournament will have a 750.00 1st place 400.00 dollar 2nd place and a 150.00 dollar 3rd place + 25.00 weekly prizes for the heaviest stripers caught. These prizes will all be cash and will be given after the tournament ends. We have raised more than 13,000 dollars that has been donated to local charities and we will continue to give to local families and charities in need. You must have a City of Brigantine valid 4 X 4 permit to join and the fish must be caught off the front beach of Brigantine. With these two permits you will be able to ride the entire front of the Brigantine beaches. You can stop by the shop for all the details. Please obey all Brigantine City 4 X 4 rules as they will be strictly enforced and the City of Brigantine is nice enough to allow us this tournament so let's make them proud. The other tournament this weekend will be the FREE 1000.00 dollar flounder tournament that will run Sat, Sun, and Monday. All you have to do is go to www.BigFishNJ.com and register before Friday night. It's that simple, catch the biggest flounder and weigh it in here or one of the other certified weigh stations and win the money. The spot and king fish continue to be all over the surf and many anglers have been filling their cages up with the striper candy. It looks like Earl will be stopping by on Friday but the weekend is looking great. With all the bait fish that are loaded up out there, it won't be long until the stripers start to head back from their journey up North.

    Thanks and Good Luck

    Capt Andy

Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report, Ship Bottom, NJ, 9-04-10

    September 1, 2010

Billy Taddeo gave us a report today after he fished Barnegat Inlet. He got up there at about 4:00 PM and immediately caught and released over a dozen short fluke. It took a while and he caught a 19" keeper and then a few more shorts. He lost 4 rigs to the strong current and rocks and called it a day.

Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report, Ship Bottom, NJ, 9-04-10

    September 3, 2010

Yesterday, the Wild Honey drifted from Barnegat Inlet and West to the Sedge Banks. Came up with 9 short Fluke a few Bluefish in the 3-lb class and tons a small Sea Bass and Sea Robins.

Thursday, Sam had two friends from PA on his boat. They started on B-reef; plenty of small fish but no drift. Then drifted the Bell area and the South jetty and caught more short fish. Finished the day drifting the back channels of Oyster Creek and caught more shorts but here we managed one 21" keeper and also one huge blowfish.

Sea Devil Charters Fishing Report, Pleasant Beach, NJ, 9-04-10

Wednesday, September 1: Very good fishing for bluefish on the offshore reef. Bob made a drift after spotting the blues on the bottom. It took a few minutes for fish to be caught on jigs and almost immediately, the blues were taking bait. The water was so clear & the current almost nonexistent that we could actually watch the fish as they took the bait or jigs. False albacore & skipjack tunas were swimming among the big blues and many anglers successfully caught these fish. All fish weighed from 8 to 14 pounds and Frank Draijer landed the 14 pound pool winner. Highlights include: Dr. Jerry, Len Smith, Art Weber, Eddie Mackin and Paul Sperco were slamming the big blues and false albacore in the stern, with Eddie hitting them hard in the bow; all limiting out and extremely tired out. Penny Ortenzi, Pine Grove, PA was the first to land a fish with bait and the only lady to successfully land a false albacore. Her husband, Johnny, caught fish after fish all day with bait and jigs while Penny did well using bait all day. Frank Draijer and son Erik had a blast catching big blues and false albacore. Dad was first on the board, Erik was up by 2 for a while, but dad ended up high hook. This was a great way for father and son to spend some time together before Erik leaves for college. Mark Rosenberg, Libertyville, IL, & Flanders, NJ limited out, catching big blues with both jigs and bait. This was his first time back to the Sea Devil in 5 years. Kevin OCallahan, Bayonne bagged many big blues and a small skipjack tuna. The VanLews: Gary, Brian, Bill, Steve and Alex, all caught some big blues, mostly on jigs today. The seas were flat calm and will remain so on Thursday. Don’t wait. Let’s go fishing on the Sea Devil. Plan to arrive at the dock by 7 a.m.
