New jersey Charter boat and bait and tackle reports, 9-24

    Saltwater / Jetty Report: 9/24/2010
    Update 8:05AM
As I was writing the report I got word that bluefish are being caught from the Seaside surf on mullet. I have also been told the wind is out of the south. This could shut down the fishing but we will see.

Yesterday turned out to be a pretty good day for stripers. There were caught from the IBSP and Seaside area on clams and plugs. Also a bunch of bluefish were reported just about anyplace you fished from the surf. Some kingfish are still being caught from the LBI surf. Boaters have been catching bluefish, sea bass, croakers, and a few spike weakfish. People have been telling me they can not believe all the bait that is in the water. There are more mullet now but I don't think the full run has started yet so look out when it does.

    -----

    Bay Report: 9/24/2010
Well at least I received a few more reports yesterday from the bays. Great Bay the blackfish is doing pretty good when fishing around some of the creeks. Barnegat Bay has a little bit better fishing with reports of snappers, blowfish, and a few seabass. The BB, BI, and 40 buoys or the sod banks is where you should be fishing. Crabbing is still ok but you are now having to work to get a good dinner.

    -----

    Fresh Water Report: 9/24/2010
Few fishing so not many reports. Had reports of some good catches of bass and pickeral. Too bad I wasn't told where from.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing report, Seaside Park , 9-24-10

    Bass n Blues
    Friday, September, 24, 2010 at 4:46AM
We had a couple of bass weighed in yesterday. Not in danger of breaking any records but I bet they looked real good on the dinner table. A couple of guys reported quite a few shorts on Clams and assorted artificials. Lots of small blues too! Fresh Mullet was the bait of choice for them yesterday.
This is what the weather idiots came up with - Partly sunny this morning...then clearing. Patchy fog this morning. Highs in the mid 80s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Ypu, I read it twice, too!
Mike is trying to understand how how he made it over the hill without getting to the top.

Paul is on vacation till next Sunday so if you have any reel questions they will have to wait till then.
Saturday is Ray′s birthday so make sure you call him and wish him a happy. I like to watch his face get red when someone wishes him a happy birthday he gets embarrassed so easy......

Jingles Bait and Tackle fishing report, Beach Haven 9-24-10

    Fri Sept 24th

Feels like July this am. It is 69 degrees at 5:30 am with an ocean temp of 72. The wind right now is SW about 5. It is hazy with a little fog. Winds are pre-dicted to be stronger this afternoon.

Seabass are still plentiful when you can get out there. Croakers and spike weakfish also in the ocean for your inshore fishing.

The bay has crabs to the west side of the bay. Spot fish is also good also on the west side of the bay. Blowfish and some of good size near Morrisons but only in the boat when chumming. North end has a better bite on these fish.

Dockside there are snappers, seabass, and a few blowfish. Lots of spider crabs.

Surf fishing has been the same for the last few weeks with the small blues and some kingfish.

Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report, Ship Bottom, NJ, 9-24-10

    Current Report

    September 23, 2010

Went out and fished today at the bluefin grounds. Started out trolling and getting the first bluefin of the day on a pink/white horse bally placed way way back. Shortly after we got covered up with fat alberts (albies). Switched over to the chunk/jig while drifting. A lot of marks but little to show for our efforts. Ended up anchoring up and concentrated more on the chunk. Had two run-offs. Both good size fish; however, both came unbuttoned before we saw color. While anchored chunking I worked the jig with confidence and managed to hook some bluefin. I broke in my new Penn Torque Spin (TRQ7) and boy was I impressed. If put a hurtin' on 'em with some serious drag that is smooth as silk. This reel can handle big fish! Can't wait to get back out fishing it again soon.

Ocean Explorer Fishing Report, Belmar, NJ, 9-24-10

9-23-10 We had a banner day on the ocean today, flat calm seas and warm temps.Fish catching was productive too.Plenty of sea bass bites most places we stopped today. And we made plenty of stops for the nice size crowd we had come down to get some fish for dinner. The high hooks today had over 18 nice keeper bass, and if you were on the low end you had 4-5 keepers. But most had around a dozen or so.Good day out and tomorrow is looking good to.

Dorothy B Fishing Report, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, 9-24-10

    SEPTEMBER 23 UPDATE

Well, the sea has been rough few days - the ocean has been real sloppy and the Fluke have been evasive. Yesterday and today the weather on land was beautiful and summer-like, but not so on the water where it was cool and autumn-like. I expected calmer conditions yesterday, but had to retreat to the Bays to bring the color back to several hearty souls. The pool fish weighing more than 5 lbs was landed by Shanna Dugan, who stayed at the rail and fished the whole trip. She gets the VIP spot.

Today things were a bit more comfortable, and the fluke seemed to be a tad hungry. Though we had a decent amount of keepers, many anglers went home empty handed. Along with the fluke, there were a few nice sea bass. The pool winner today is Bill Kaug of Millington, NJ with a 3lbs.+ Fluke. His brother Tom was a very close with his 2 keepers, weighing 2 and 3 lbs. Larry Kuntz also landed a 3 pounder.
In the 2 lb category are Joe Buckley, Joe Latiorio, Dennis DePalma, and Jon Froelich.
Just a note under the RSA rules, fish are weighed and rounded off to the nearest pound. Pool fish are weighed on a balance scale.

It looks like the fluke are still here and beginning to bite. Let's see that they stick around for a bit longer.

Scotts Bait and Tackle Fishing report, Mystic Island, 9-25-10

    Friday, September 24, 2010 /\/\/\ 5:47pm
Dave on the HiFlier reports still catching false albacore offshore as far out as the Mud Hole. Bay fishing they have been getting kingfish/blowfish/porgies/seabass, and he recommends finding quieter spots to fish rather than in with the fleet of boats.

Some kingfish are here again! Where did they come from? No complaints from anglers who were able to catch some decent ones over the past couple of days. Graveling Point area and out in front of Great Bay Marina have been the hot posts for the kingfish. Big kingy weighed in was caught by Carol Elenewski almost sixteen inches and weighed one pound eight ounces.

Some excellent tog fishing reported along the banks this week. Big tog was almost six pounds. Even the bank anglers working the ledges in Little Sheepshead Creek are catching too.

All west wind in the up and coming forecast. We can hope that it doesn't blow nearly as hard as predicted. I had hoped anglers would get out to work the false albacore on the troll as well as jigging up the croakers along the beach for a change of pace.

Some good reports of sea bass on the ocean heard today too.

No word on any stripers local to Little Egg Inlet. Word is "Up North" the action has stared. My prediction remains the hot bass activity on clams in the Little Egg Inlet will not occur until the third week of October. It would really break my heart if I was wrong.

Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report, Ship Bottom, NJ, 9-25-10

    September 24, 2010

Received: Sep 24, 2010 2:05 PM Subject: LBI angler visiting Myrtle Beach, SC with a surf and pier report

Well the mullet run is in full force here in Myrtle Beach, SC with thousands on the bait fish moving South. With the mullet are spanish mackerel, blues and albacore. With the occasional shark. The day is sunny high 80's light breeze from the south water temp 83.

    ~ Keith Weidenhof

(Gee it sounds like a mirror image of what has been happening here off Island Beach and Long Beach Island)

Received: Sep 24, 2010 10:20 AM Subject: Hi Flier Fishing Report

Clobbered the false albacore offshore yesterday. Only had one fare on my open boat, so I got to do battle, as well. We ran to the mud Hole in search of bluefin or mahi but immediately hooked an albie on a squid bar as we were still setting up the spread. I was keeping the RPM's down for the "way back" as Islander/Ballyhoo were dragging for tuna, so the action was scarce for that hour or so. Instead of not catching tuna, we decided to change out the spread to smaller stuff, lighter gear and pick up the speed to 7 knots. All hell broke loose over the same water we were just dragging. Albies and skipjack non-stop. I had fresh spearing on board, so we put them out on the 10 pound spinning rods. You hook them with a small hook through both lips and skip them like a jap feather in the first or second wake and the hits are violent. We're using a small swivel and three feet of 20 pound fluorocarbon just to beef up the business end. At the end of the day, there wasn't any bags of loin to unload like when we are on the bonita, but it's hard to beat for sport on light tackle that close to shore. Barnegat Ridge is all lit up with the same action and from the Mud hole to the Ridge is "canyon blue" water that is 69 to 70 degrees and beautiful.

In the bay we are catching weakfish on live grass shrimp and shedders crabs. Lots of blowfish, some really big ones for the table. The other species in the mix include: burrfish, kingfiish, small blues, sand sharks, porgies, and sea bass, though, those last two are always of juvenile size. Anchoring up on the west side of the bay anywhere between BB Buoy all the way to the 42 Buoy seems to be producing the same. The fleets are bigger here and there, but the action isn't always best in those fleets. We are getting off to some quieter spots, 7 to 8 feet of water, loading the water with chum logs and fresh clams and the fish are responding quite well.

We are also taking our one per man tog limit off the inlet jetty as well as short stripers and small blues. We can either anchor up and shrimp the bass or throw lures. The bluefish seem to be in the mix every day, as well. Mostly 20 to 26 inch bass with a very occasional keeper, and the blues are 2 to 4 pound fish. All good stuff on the spinning rods.

Saturday and Sunday has potential for Inshore, Offshore, or our Inshore/Offshore combo trips. I will run charter or open boat each day depending on what the first people who call would like to do.
