New jersey Charter boat and bait and tackle reports, 9-20

Sunday, September 19: Captain Bob sailed back to the east side of the Hudson Canyon where he had a good catch of tuna the previous night. The water was warmer and the current was not as strong, both good signs. Janice Albramo started the action, catching a big blue shark, which was released. There was little action until about 4 a.m. when big yellow fin tunas started taking all of the bait and jigs. We picked away until almost 7 a.m. We caught all yellow fins this trip and the tuna weighed from 40 to 75 pounds. It is nice to catch the big variety, once again! There were many decent runoffs, but another good catch for the boat for the second trip in a row. Some of the highlights include: Susan Sharp, first time ever aboard a ship on the ocean, caught a 65 pound tuna! Other first time events: Kristen Lowe, and Janice Albramo each landed a fish. The ladies were only a few of those who decked big tuna, most of the guys also got in on the action. A great time was had by all. We still have open spots for this season. Check out the tuna calendar for availability at: http://www.partyboatnj.com/tuna-calendar.php and call Cindy @ 732 701-1094 to make your reservation!

Sea Horse Party Boat Fishing Report, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, 9-20-10

    Sunday Bottom Report (9/19/10)

Excellent fishing today. Lots of Sea Bass, plenty of Porgies and the Blackfish were there for those who fished for them. It looks like the fishing is getting better everyday. Come on down and fill that freezer for the winter! Todays pool winner was Gary Carvett from Jutland, NJ. with a 5.5 lb Blackfish. Also pictured is Mike Tepedino from Monroe,NJ. with a 3.5 lb. Sea Bass. Sorry for the blurry picture, but wanted to put it up anyway. See ya on the dock!

Dorothy B Fishing Report, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, 9-20-10

    UPDATE REPORT 9/19

The fishing has been decent, but not great on all days except for Friday (which was horrible). Steve Ford, Pat Lamb (6 lb & 3 lb) and Al Abramson all had 6 pound fluke, this week. Randy Goble had a nice 4 pounder on Saturday. In the 3 pound category, are Rich Mondello, Francis Wurtenbeg, Mike Magliocco, Cindy Schwarz, Jim Walsh, Pat Lamb, Ronald Stigak, David Hess, Jon Froelich, Matt McCawley. Anglers are also landing quite a few 2+pounders.
Add to the mix some nice Sea Bass and it makes for a fine day on the water.

VIP today goes to Pat Lamb.

There are no crowds, the catching is far better than the regular season and the weather is great.

Reel Class/Point Pleasant Sunday 9/19 Bluefish & Speedster Report
    Written by Capt.Allen
    Sunday, 19 September 2010 18:09

Today we had Sam, Chris Crabcake, Ed, Evan, and Zeb aboardfor a bluefish & speedster trip. We broke the inlet around 7 and found a beautiful, flat calm ocean as we headed east to where we had them yesterday; only a long period, gentle ground swell was what we had- a far cry from yesterday's ride out in the slop.

We got set up on the hook and got the chum in the water by 8AM. We had a couple of guys with jigs, another guy throwing a tsunami, and chunks and spearing floating in the slick. We had our first fish on about 5 minutes into the trip, a big bluefish taken by Chris on a jig. We then started to pick away at the gators, mostly 10-14# on both bait and jigs. We would have some flurries of 2-4 on at a time, then a lull, then another period of time where we would get covered up. All the while we were throwing spearing looking for all those albies we had yesterday, to no avail as we didn't have any sign of an albie before noon - but again the bluefish were voracious.

At noon we made a move a little further offshore and found a little cleaner and warmer water, and some great marks - but again we started catching the gators. We had some wild periods where we would have every rod hooked up, either on bait or jigs.

Finally, in the last 15 or so minutes, Chris hooked an albie and got it up near the boat, only to have it spit the hook 10' from the boat!

Overall, it was another terrific day. Sam fished a trout rod all day long and had a blast with the big bluefish, and Chris jigged up an honest 30 bluefish on his noodle rod - while Ed, Zeb, and Evan put their share in the boat. We easily boated 60 bluefish (keeping a dozen), if not more, and broke or popped off at least that many as well. No variety today, just bluefish where yesterday it was mostly albies. Thanks for coming down today guys!
