New jersey Charter boat and bait and tackle reports, 9-17

    Saltwater / Jetty Report: 9/17/2010
Water is a bit dirty from the storms last night but should clear up fast with a couple tide changes today. Not too bad for the amount of people fishing. Bluefish and a few stripers are being caught from LBI, IBSP and Seaside. Bluefish also being caught from Ortley Beach, Mantoloking and Point Pleasant Beach. The blues are being caught on metals, bunker, and mullet. The stripers were caught on bunker AVA's and needlefish. Yes you heard me correctly needlefish. Been awhile since I heard that one. Looks to be a great fall run if all this holds up. Ocean got a bit rough yesterday so not many fishing outside. It still maybe rough this weekend so if you are fishing bait from the surf bring the big rods and heavy weights. But then you could throw AVA's.

    Bay Report: 9/17/2010
Blowfish is all I am hearing from Barnegat Bay, Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay. Not many fishing yesterday from what I heard.

    Fresh Water Report: 9/17/2010
Few fished the morning but the storms we had killed the evening fishing. I had a few reports of bass and yellow perch being caught from Gropps Lake. Few bass and sunnies from Town Center and that is all I heard.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing report, Seaside Park , 9-17-10

    Is it Fall already?
    Friday, September, 17, 2010 at 4:30AM
Just take a look at the weigh-in list and you will see what I mean! The big blues and Albacore have been joined by a consistant pick of very nice Bass. It is especially good when you consider how few fishermen are on the beaches. Here is another video link of some of the local boys (cast of several) mixing it up with the big blues a couple of days ago.

It had been a morning bite on the Bass but now it looks like a day and night bite has been added.
And now this from the weather idiots, whether it is right or not is subject to interpretation - Mostly cloudy with isolated showers early this morning...then partly sunny this afternoon. Patchy fog this morning. Highs in the upper 70s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
Mike must have a brain made out of teflon - nothing sticks!

Just because I don′t listen to him he thinks nothing stays. If he would only say something worth listening to I might listen.
A BIG congratulations to Samantha and Eric P. on the birth of their son yesterday evening. I don′t have any details as of yet except to say everyone is doing fine. All Grump had to say was oh boy another customer to talk to........Mike
Ben Allison weighted in a nice 17+ lb bass last night in the middle of that rain. See fish don′t care if they get wet.

Jingles Bait and Tackle fishing report, Beach Haven 9-17-10

    Fri Sept 17th

What a storm last night but we were a lot luckier than some places!

Derby registration will be in shops later today. Sign up early so you can get your hat.

SW wind this am about 15 and it is 67 degrees with an ocean temp of 73.

Nice weekend ahead but big seas. You will need heavier sinkers on the beach and boaters will be in the bay catching blow fish or crabbing.

At day break this morning, we spoke with Paul up at Grumpys Tackle, http://www.grumpystackle.com in Seaside Park and he reports Blues and Albacore being caught right on the beach. Check out the link Ganked right off of Grumpys page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW7su1XlBDQ Neat! is all I can say.
Wind and Hurricane Igor coming is not helping the boating anglers get out on the ocean. Patience, better days are coming.

    Fishing Report:
As September makes its way to fall the upcoming striped bass season, the captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association have been finding ways to catch a varied mix of fish to fill the fish box for their anglers to enjoy fish dinners. Captain Carl Sheppard of the "Star Fish" out of Morrison's Marina in Beach Haven reports finding black sea bass, spike weakfish, bluefish, blackfish, croakers, and porgies, all within easy reach of the beach over the past week. He says the sea bass and blackfish are back on their feed now that the spawning period has ended. He sees small bluefish everywhere with some larger ones further out. Porgies are now showing near the wrecks with small weakfish and croakers in the "slues" near the beach. Sal Rosa on the "Miss Beach Haven" reports that they found large numbers of black sea bass last Saturday around the wrecks. There were quite a few throwbacks, but there were also plenty of keepers. On Sunday after the rain they managed a real mixed bag of fish. There were sea bass, triggerfish, croakers, and blackfish to take home. Recent pool winners were Scotty Tohotty of Beach Haven with a real nice sea bass and John Cheeseman with a blackfish.

Voyager Fishing Report, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, 9-17-10

    September 16, 2010

We made our first couple of TUNA TRIPS over the past few days. The first trip was slow with just a couple of bites. The second trip, a TUNA-MAHI 30-hour Combo, showed much more promise. We spent the first day pot hopping for MAHI and they were hungry. They ate everything, but liked bait the best. Everyone got in on the action with fish caught from bow to stern. At night, we anchored and caught and lost a Yellowfin around 9 PM. It was pretty quiet for the next several hours, so we made about a 10-mile move to try a different area. After being anchored for about two hours, we started reading fish under the boat. For the next couple of hours, we had fish come and go under the boat and hooked up with quite a few. The fish were large Yellowfin, but the poor conditions with extreme current made it tough to get down to the fish, and when we would hook one, they would get lost in a long fight or to a tangle. We probably would have had a better bite and a better landing ratio if we had less current. Hopefully, that will be the case next trip. Unfortunately, our tuna pictures from the trip didn't come out.

WE STILL HAVE ROOM ON TUNA TRIPS THIS WEEKEND and next Tuesday's TUNA-MAHI COMBO. If you are interested, please send an us an e-mail message.

Our TILEFISH TRIP was very good with a number of fish in the 8 to 20 pound range. We had a mix of both GOLDEN and BLUELINE TILEFISH, with some of the Bluelines around 15 pounds. The pool fish was a 31 pound Golden Tilefish caught by Roy Bess of East Orange, NJ. We have a two-day TILEFISH TRIP in late October, but we may add another Sunday night trip to the schedule before that. Stay tuned.

Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report, Ship Bottom, NJ, 9-17-10

    September 16, 2010

Steve Wurst and son Andy took the Sea Trever offshore on Tuesday to the "Virginia" to fish in about 200' of water. They hooked up with six (6) tuna from 40 to 100-lbs. Half were caught trolling but the larger fish were caught while jigging down at a 95' depth.

Received: Sep 16, 2010 8:25 PM Subject: Thursday Fishing Report

Fished the ocean today. It got rough quick. I had Seven keeper porgy, one short sea bass, one bird and one "Rudder"? Never heard of it.

    ~ Jim T., Bridgewater, NJ

Received: Sep 16, 2010 1:28 PM Subject: Albie report

Fished this morning at first light probably near where Greg fished yesterday, about 2 miles north of Barnegat inlet in 30 feet of water. Blindcasted and trolled up 15 albies by 8:30 AM when it got rough enough to send us back to the barn. All fish were caught on deadly dicks.

Received: Sep 16, 2010 7:26 AM Subject: Report

Short bass off beach on X-Rap Walk.

    ~ Brian S.

    6:00 PM

Greg and Jonni took the Wild Honey out this morning looking to get the drags screaming for a second day in a row. Got into the albies at first light. They were in the same spot as yesterday, just off the beach and about 1-2 miles North of the Barnegat Inlet, crashing sandeels and spearing. Caught a half dozen on light tackle outfits with 005 & 007 diamond jigs and small deadly dick metals. We also tried out the new Red Gill EVO's. The fish loved 'em. They are as close to a live sand eel as plastic gets. Ask the birds. They were looking. After an hour or two the albies scattered and we started jigging the metals off the bottom on the huge balls marking our screen. Ending up getting a couple handfuls of bluefish (snapper through gators), a number of double headers and my first weakfish of 2010 (sad but true). Back at the dock by 9:30 and off the Mustache Bill's for breakfast.

    4:15 PM

    RIGHT NOW!
Snapper, Cocktail, Chopper, and Gator size Bluefish with False albacore and spike Weakfish mixed in are tight to the beach in Surf City headed South crashing on sandeels or spearing. One customer has been following these fish from North Beach to Surf City for a while.

The kingfish and croakers are still strong from Mid Island to the South-end beaches. Yes, we have bloodworms.

Sea Horse Party Boat Fishing Report, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, 9-17-10

    Thursday Report (9/16/10)

Hey Guys, Started out with a slow pick today at Shrewsbury Rocks. We were getting some Porgies and Sea Bass. The wind picked up after noon and then we took a run up north to the Reef and did much better there. Ended the day with a more Porgies than Sea Bass. As far as I can tell, the hurricane coming is going to be way off shore and not going to be a problem for this weekend, so come on down. Jean willl not be working the galley this weekend, so bring your lunch. See ya on the dock!

Dorothy B Fishing Report, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, 9-17-10

    WED & THURS REPORT 9/14, 9/15

Decent fishing again in beautiful weather and good conditions.
    Wednesdays catches were
Al Abramson with 3 fish total of 12lbs. including the pool winner at 6 lbs, Ed Mulgree of Montclaire with 3 fish at 10 lbs, Gerald Pawlikowski with 2 fluke at 5lbs, Tom Donelon of Rahway, Sam Gesumarve of Toms River with 3 pounders and Aaron Lenre of Scarsdale NY with a 2 pounder.

Thursday Al Abramson took the pool again with a nice 4 pounder and close behind him were Adrian Sisolak and Mark Filik, the 3 pounders were boated by Lino De Rosa of Lindhurst, John Buchko of Hopelawn and last but not least T. DeRosa (Lino's brother) of Bayonne took home 2 fluke at 2 lbs each.

The VIP spot goes to Al Abramson not only for his pool fish, but for all the fluke he has been landing. If the crew took your photo, look in the photo section. If you have a photo, e-mail it to us and we will put it up.

I know it doesn't seem like a lot of fish being landed, but we are going out with very light "crowds", and some days every angler goes home with at least one keeper. There are anglers who have fished all summer with us and others and never landed a keeper until fishing during the Extended Season. There is plenty of room on board, no crowding, so if you have been thinking about giving us a try, now is the time.

Hope to see some new faces as well in the coming weeks. Pack your lunch, bring your cooler and sweatshirt and come on down.
