New jersey Charter boat and bait and tackle reports, 9-16
Saltwater / Jetty Report: 9/16/2010
It don't get much better then this right now. The mix off the surf is great. The only thing missing is tons of stripers and that will happen. First it was 2 to 4 lb bluefish then the 7 to 10 lbers moved in and now it is the big boys the alligators are showing up. People had catches of them from Point Pleasant Beach all the way down to IBSP. Use a Deadly Dick, AVA's or a T-Hex for metals, mullet or bunker for bait or even use a swimming plug to catch them. There has been a few stripers caught as well but not many. The ocean is full of bait, sandeels, bunker, rainfish, spearing, and snappers are all over the place. Once the mullet run starts look out. LBI had it's own mix of fish yesterday as well. Had reports of all sizes of bluefish being caught along with some false albacore and weakfish. Yes you read that correctly WEAKFISH from the surf. Only thing was there were mostly all spikes. Also kingfish and croakers are being caught from the surf. Boaters are having fun with the bluefish and false albacore. I just have one thing to say GET OUT AND FISH!!!
Bay Report: 9/16/2010
Blowfish is still the thing to be fishing for in the bays. I had reports of some good action from Barnegat Bay, Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay for them. Just bring lots of clam chum and you will be ok. Crabbing has slowed but is still pretty good.
Fresh Water Report: 9/16/2010
I guess with everyone back to work and kids in school not many are fishing even later in the day. I only had one report that bass, sunnies, and catfish were caught from Town Center.

Bigger Blues
Thursday, September, 16, 2010 at 4:19AM
The small blues were is short supply yesterday but there were plenty of bigger ones to take over. Long skinny metal got plenty of exercise but fresh Mullet or Peanut Bunker was also a good option. You may want to try some metal with a teaser for Bass if you are out early. There has been some luck at the predawn hour. Stay alert on the beach and you may get a shot at the Albacore. If nothing else, you will get some exercise trying to catch these speed merchants.
Here is a link to an Albacore video from a couple of days ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW7su1XlBDQ
The weather idiots are all excited - Partly sunny. A chance of showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Windy with highs in the lower 80s. East winds 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph... increasing to south 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 30 percent. All that for another possible shower?
It would seem that Mike has corrupted Ray and converted the poor lad to join him on the dark side! Ray made an unscheduled appearance as I was leaving last night and the two of them denied being up to someting so vigorously, they have to be up to no good.

Got to keep making room for new stuff. Seems Ray has the same opinion of Grump as I do. He thinks Grump is --------- Oops I can′t write those words. You know what I mean......
Jingles Bait and Tackle fishing report, Beach Haven 9-16-10
Thurs Sept 16th
Change in the wind this morning with the wind off the ocean a good 10 and the air temp is 66 and the ocean is 71.
Good thning about the wind change is that it should blow away some of the flies from yesterday. Alot of people left the beach because of them.
We now close early on Wed and yesterday was the first chance to get to the beach in a long time. We thought about not going because of the flies but no sooner than we got there the wind switched and with the SW there were no problems with the flies. No kingfish for me yesterday it was all spots for that hour that I was there and they would not take my fish bites they wanted the real thing.
Once again yesterday lots of false albacore off the beach. They are a fun to catch fish and fight hard.
Wed Sept 15th
This morning at 5:30 am it is 62 degrees and a NW wind about 10. The ocean is 71 this am.
Happy people catching fish!
Last year this week it was one of those stormy weeks and it was a no fish week for many! They just wish the fish were bigger but for many it is the first time they ever caught so many fish.
Weather forecast is calling for small craft warn-ings starting tomorrow afternoon. They are callng for a E and NE wind which could push bait to the beach. Last night bunker and bluefish hit the beach north of Seaside..

Thank you John and Bill Mac for passing along a report of some False Albacore just outside the Little Egg reef site. Trolling the Clarke Spoons did the trick. Maybe some other folks can get in on the action when the sea conditions allow it.
Blowfish activity is still pretty good with the sea bass and snapper blues ruling the numbers of fish being caught.
Spot anglers are finding more spots in the lagoons now then out in the bay. Try right off the back dock, just maybe you have one of the good lagoons. A few anglers are telling me they have been finding good numbers of spots where a few lagoons merge together. They are fishing the deeper water holes of those areas.

Greg and Jonni took the Wild Honey out this morning looking to get the drags screaming for a second day in a row. Got into the albies at first light. They were in the same spot as yesterday, just off the beach and about 1-2 miles North of the Barnegat Inlet, crashing sandeels and spearing. Caught a half dozen on light tackle outfits with 005 & 007 diamond jigs and small deadly dick metals. We also tried out the new Red Gill EVO's. The fish loved 'em. They are as close to a live sand eel as plastic gets. Ask the birds. They were looking. After an hour or two the albies scattered and we started jigging the metals off the bottom on the huge balls marking our screen. Ending up getting a couple handfuls of bluefish (snapper through gators), a number of double headers and my first weakfish of 2010 (sad but true). Back at the dock by 9:30 and off the Mustache Bill's for breakfast.

RIGHT NOW!
Snapper, Cocktail, Chopper, and Gator size Bluefish with False albacore and spike Weakfish mixed in are tight to the beach in Surf City headed South crashing on sandeels or spearing. One customer has been following these fish from North Beach to Surf City for a while.
The kingfish and croakers are still strong from Mid Island to the South-end beaches. Yes, we have bloodworms.
As September makes its way to fall the upcoming striped bass season, the captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association have been finding ways to catch a varied mix of fish to fill the fish box for their anglers to enjoy fish dinners.
Captain Carl Sheppard of the “Star Fish” out of Morrison’s Marina in Beach Haven reports finding black sea bass, spike weakfish, bluefish, blackfish, croakers, and porgies, all within easy reach of the beach over the past week. He says the sea bass and blackfish are back on their feed now that the spawning period has ended. He sees small bluefish everywhere with some larger ones further out. Porgies are now showing near the wrecks with small weakfish and croakers in the “slues” near the beach.
Sal Rosa on the “Miss Beach Haven” reports that they found large numbers of black sea bass last Saturday around the wrecks. There were quite a few throwbacks, but there were also plenty of keepers. On Sunday after the rain they managed a real mixed bag of fish. There were sea bass, triggerfish, croakers, and blackfish to take home. Recent pool winners were Scotty Tohotty of Beach Haven with a real nice sea bass and John Cheeseman with a blackfish.

Sea Horse Party Boat Fishing Report, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, 9-16-10
Wednesday (9/15/10)

Ocean Explorer Fishing Report, Belmar, NJ, 9-16-10
9-15-10 Nice weather, nice ocean.Fishing was good again today, not as good as yesterday but we still caught em,just had to work at it a bit more.High hook had 19 keeper sea bass, low hooks had 4-5.Couple of togs, not many. But a good day overall.
We mad our first couple of TUNA trips over the past few days. The first trip was slow with just a couple of bites. The second trip, a TUNA-MAHI 30-hour combo, showed much more promise. We spent the first day pot hopping for MAHI and they were hungry. They ate everything but liked bait the best. Everyone got in on the action with fish caught from bow to stern. At night we anchored and caught and lost a yellowfin around 9PM. It was pretty quiet for the next several hours so we made about a 10 mile move to try a different area. After being anchored for about two hours we started reading fish under the boat. For the next couple of hours we had fish come and go under the boat hooking quite a few. The fish were large yellowfins but the poor conditions with extreme current made it tough to get down to the fish and when we would hook one they would get lost in a long fight or to a tangle. We probably would have had a better bite and a better landing ratio if we had less current. Hopefully that will be the case next trip. Unfortunately my tuna pictures from the trip didn't come out.
We still have room on TUNA trips this weekend and next Tuesday's TUNA-MAHI combo. If you are interested please e-mail.
Our TILEFISH trip was very good with a number of fish in the 8-20 pound range. We had a mix of both GOLDEN and BLUELINE TILES with some of the Blues around 15 pounds. The pool fish was a 31 pound GOLDEN TILE caught by Roy Bess of East Orange, NJ. We have a two-day trip in late October but we may add another Sunday night trip to the schedule before that, stay tuned.

Just got back from canyon trip Tues-Wed----the group of Roger, Milt & Andy added newcomers John and Dan for a canyon trip. This group has already had a 300 lb mako in June, 250 lb bluefin in July---now they have added a 250-280lb bigeye. Fought fish for over an hour. Unfortunately we also lost another bigeye close to the boat --both hitting at the same time.
Last Friday we started catching stripers with the Bill Zimmerman group. Had three and all the BIG bluefish you could handle.
