New jersey Charter boat and bait and tackle reports, 8-8
Saltwater Report: 8/8/2010
Let see if you can guess what the report is going to be. Go ahead and guess. Yup, you got it fluke by day and sharks by night from the beaches. It's funny how the fluke reports vary. One reports the keeper ratio is pretty good and the next it is very bad. It looks like it is a big deal where you are fishing if the keeper ratio is good or not. Of course Gulp is the main bait everybody is using but squid, killies, even sea robin belly is working. Sharks it is bunker chunks. Did hear of a striper caught off the surf on LBI. Must be because of the cooler water temps. Bad thing about that is the kingfish bite is not there. Don't worry though the water temps will come back up soon and the kingfish and croaker bite should turn on.
Bay / Jetty Report: 8/8/2010
Looks like the inlets are the best bet for fluke right now. Barnegat Inlet, Manasquan Inlet, and Little Egg Inlet all had catches of a few fluke and very few keepers. The bays were also kinda slow for fluke. Here is something I didn't think I would be reporting, heard of a few weakfish being caught finally. I wasn't told where from though. Snapper fishing was good. Still no reports of any kingfish or blowfish out of the bays yet. Crabbing is very good now so give it a try.
Fresh Water Report: 8/8/2010
Lots of people fishing and catching fish too. I had tons of reports from all over the place about bass, pickeral, crappie, sunnies, and catfish being caught. If I list all the places I had reports from you would be here all day just reading them. Just get out and fish.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing report, Seaside Park , 8-09-10
Another Sweet Beach Day!
Sunday, August, 8, 2010 at 4:02AM
The weather idiots must have decided that there was no sense trying to make it rain today - Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 80s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Enjoy it!
The fishing is pretty much unchanged with Fluke being the daytime target and the shark chasers out at night. We are only getting the occaisional Fluke weighed in but there are plenty going home for dinner. Some guys are complaining about a high throwback ratio and others claim to be doing pretty good. GULP is nearly the universal bait of choice. I am still hearing rumblings of bass on clams and I am still waiting for the proof to be hanging on the scale.
Mike and I have an early morning flight on Wednesday for the Tarpon Tournament. I just realized his seat assignment is next to mine. Does anyone have a pair of those shooters ear protection devices they can loan me?

Jingles Bait and Tackle fishing report, Beach Haven 8-09-10
Sun Aug 8th
Morning bite in the bay seemed slower than yesterday. People that fished yesterday seemed to be having a more relaxing day today and doing some crabbing.
Kingfish again on the outgoing tide this am in the Holgate/Beach Haven area. Guess they are moving in from Brigatine where they have had them all summer. Fred was in from Holgate for more worms and told us he had a 151/2 in fluke on bloods and lost something bigger this am. Surf had a good swell on this morning so it was hard to pull a fish out of the drop so there were a few lost fish.
Early reports from the offshore guys are of some tuna and dophin from the trollers and chunkers.
Temp is 73 this am with no wind to speak of. They are calling for lite SE winds today. Water is 67 at 4am.
High tide today is 6:49 am on the oceanfront.
Quiet morning on the streets at 4:30 am.Just a few bikers either going home or to work riding their bikes in the middle of the street.
From yesterdays SBYC Tournament sounds like the bigger keeper fluke came from the bay.

Scotts Bait and Tackle, Mystic Island,Fishing report 8-09-10

I think there is a vote going on someplace to rename the Little Egg Reef site to "The Skate Reef". If you were looking to escape the inlets and were just trying to entertain some company or children, the Little Egg Reef was the place to be for bending rods. There was a little bit better news coming from anglers fishing on the Garden State Reef, aka "The Tires". It's a long run to pick up a few keepers, but sometimes escaping the congestion of the bay is worth the effort all by itself.

Decent most of the week - good this morning but slow this afetrnoon as swells began to develop from offshore tropical depression.
Two fish big enough to take over the monthly pool were caught this morning
George Elsishans Trenton, NJ caught a 7 lb 2 oz Fluke BUT he was blown away when
Dave Tootchen Phila Pa, a regular on the Jamaica II boated a 10 lb 4 ounce Flattie that's only the second 10 pounder caught this season.
Something tells me its gonna take a bigger one to win the August monthly pool, which includes a year of free fishing on the Jamaica II
Otherwise decent action around the boat this morning but sluggish fishingnthis afternoon

Golden Eagle Fishing Report, Belmar, NJ, 8-09-10
August 8th Report
My apologies for the long delay in updating my reports, I have been experiencing some interesting computer issues that I can only hope are resolved now!
Blue fishing is still challenging with smaller blues taking jigs early then become hard to get as the day wears on. We have been mixing things up a bit when the blues play hard to get and putting some nice seabass and fluke aboard along with a few really nice black drum!
Night blue action has not been good...however we expect them to start biting well any day!

Carolyn Ann III Fishing Report, Barnegat Light, NJ, 8-09-10
Fishing Report
It's Sunday, 8/8/2010. Here are a few LINES of truth.
Monday, 8/2, our AM winner was John Delany from Pennsburg, NJ. John caught a 2.6-lb. fluke. PM champ was Woddy Woodruff of Kinnelon, NJ with a 5-lb. flattie.
Tuesday, 8/3, Bob Nolan of Ship Bottom, NJ took the morning crown with a 5.5-lber. Second trip winner was Red Nuss from Manahawkin, NJ. Red nailed a 4.1-lb. summer flounder.
Wednesday, 8/4, Artie Hoyt of Manahawkin, NJ won the early trip pool with his 2-lb. sea bass. Our afternoon trip pool was won by Gino DiMeglio from Lambertville, NJ. Gino nailed a 3.2-lb. fluke.
Thursday, 8/5, Steve Nulph, Southampton, NJ, got the first win with a 6.2-lb. fluke. Second trip winner was Ren Nociti from Barnegat Light, NJ. Ren (between naps) caught a 5-lber.
Friday, 8/6, the AM winner was Bob Romano from Harvey Cedars, NJ. Bob boated a 3.5-lb.fluke. The PM winner was Steve Kmetz of Doylestown, PA. Steve caught a 5-lb. fluke.
Saturday, 8/7, should have been called the "Dave Frost Show." This Barnegat, NJ resident took the morning crown on a tough pick with a 2-lb. black sea bass. Dave hung around for the afternoon trip and after all was said and done he had four 3.5-lbers and two 4-lbers for his limit and the pool money AGAIN!! Nice job Dave!!!
Less than 30 days left before fluke season comes to an end. The bottom temperature in 49 feet of water was 63 degrees. Squid and spearing are doing the job; however, jigging "spros" and "cannonballs" with pearl gulp took quite a few people by surprise on Saturday. It's a lot more work but the proof of the puddin' is in the books. Adios

Current Report

Received: Aug 8, 2010 5:04 PM Subject: Barnegat Fishing Report
Saturday, a great group of firemen from NYC were aboard the "Bottom Line". While vacationing on LBI they wanted to try there luck on some deep sea fishing and the "Bottom Line" was recommended. We went right out of Barnegat Inlet to some local wrecks and picked up some really nice sea bass. I can see these big guys were getting a little tired of the sea bass, so we pulled everything up and headed out to the Barnegat Ridge. This is when having a good mate counts. We changed everything over and starting trolling over some of our lucky spots on the North Ridge Corner. Within a half-hour we had some nice Bonita and bluefish onboard. We started making our why back and stopped just North of the Coast Guard Station off Island Beach State Park for some fluke and had action with 3 keepers and a lot of shorts in a very brief time. Going back there this week with a couple of open boat trips and will report results. I must say we had a good day fishing and a lot of laughs. So Mike, Steve, Sal, Matt, and Crazy Jake... Thanks again guys... and stay safe.

It's hard to describe to people what this year's back bay fluke season has been like. If a cooler full of fish is the primary goal, a stop at the local fish market is probably a better bet. The current 18" size limit has us releasing 40-50 fish for every one that ends up in the box. But if the pure enjoyment of catching fish on light tackle is what you're after, it doesn't get any better than this. And we're catching enough fish that everyone still goes home with a few filets.
Monday, George Selph joined me for a couple of hours in landing 45-50 fluke to 21" from behind the lighthouse.
Thursday, Rick and Gavin Fisher were out from Newtown, PA and added another four dozen to the count, including keepers of 19", 21" and 22".
Friday, Mike Pochettino came up from Laurel, MD with his dad Lou to get in on the fun, and netted over 100 more fish with a couple fat ones in the box for the dinner table.
Saturday, George Selph and Bob Keller were back to nail an incredible 200+ fluke in four and a half hours before the bite finally died.
That's right.... over four hundred fluke in four trips this week. If you enjoy catching fish on ultralight tackle, it doesn't get any better than this. How long this will go on is anybody's guess right now, but I think we've got at least another week or two left. Hopefully it will last right through Labor Day weekend. I've still got a couple of open dates the weeks of the 16th and 23rd for anyone else that wants in on the fun.

8/7 Fluking/Sea Bassing with a Friend
Fishing Reports and News

Our charter today cancelled so I was able to spent the day with life long friend Dave Brink. Have known Dave all my life and our families are closly entwinted with their fishing legancys. Day was perfect, great weather and conditions. Headed out bright and early on the outgoing. Stopped at a couple spots in the bay before headed to deep water, shorts and Robbins.
Headed off shore and we started bailing in the Sea Bass and Fluke. On rod or the other was bent at any given moment. Dave was bucktailing, and I was using my personal rig with teaser, pretty much a draw on which produced best. Put the fish we wanted into the box and headed in around 230.
A great day with a great guy, far to few and to long inbetween.
