MONSTER BLUES AND BOTTOM FISHING
Capt John
Aug 29 |17:03
Out again with Stan Lee and his friends from NY. We headed south today and were immediately greeted with Big blues pushing bunker faster that when could keep up with them. We threw everything at them. They were gorging on the very fat size adult bunker. We even had a seen from jaws with a live one on our line up at the surface. Savages!!! I'm not sure we had fun with the blues or they had fun with us! Such insane blitz that we lost a lot due to very sharp teeth!!! After a while we decide to hit some rough spots for flounder and Sea Bass. We did just that. Nice big fat fluke came over the rail by Stan. Repeat performance from his last trip with the pool winner! On the way home we just had to stop in for some more Big mean Blue action as they were still feeding!!! Don't they ever take a break???
remember we have an open boat trip planned for this coming weekend. Still have 4 spots left. Capt. John

The FEDS are shutting down the FLUKE season after Labor Day Monday. Sound STUPID to you? If you want to SCREW something up just put the GOVERNMENT in charge!! Sound familiar to anyone? If they only knew what ALL you fisherpersons know they might increase their IQ. TAPS.

Another week of not so great weather conditions on the Barnegat Bay and inlet. We here at the Bottom Line keep mixing it up trying to get everyone some time on the water. We had three cancellations in the past week, but finally got out yesterday with a great family from Westwood NJ, (The Harlands). Most people think you need to go right out to the ocean to catch fish. Boy are they wrong, the Barnegat Bay has such a great variety of species, that you just don't know what your going to catch. For the light tackle enthusiasts you can have so much fun.
We started off working some deep holes in the Barnegat Bay channels with some frozen chum blocks. Within 20 minutes we had our 1st fish... 2nd fish... 3rd fish.... We had some nice blow fish, a ton of throw back fluke, black fish up to about 3-1/2 pounds and even two Stripers. Then we decided to move over to the inlet where we started picking up some nice weakfish. I explained to the Harlands that the weakfish have not been doing to well this year so it was decided to catch and release. (which was great). Then we got into some small blues which anyone that fishes knows these fish are great to catch on light tackle. We even fooled around with two brown sharks but no takers. I was telling the Harlands that they caught a Grand Slam! Weakfish, Stripers, Fluke, and some Blues. It was a great day by all. We here at the Bottom Line Fishing Charters were happy to just be back on the water.

Today, Chris DeGennaro and his Dad Toni caught 9 keeper Fluke between 3 to 6-lbs. They fished in 55' of water off the Thunderbird which is between Normandy Beach and Mantoloking. The bait they used was minnow and strip bait combos.
Todd Spencer and his brother Kem Spencer had a good day today off of Sea Bright in 40-60 foot of water. They stopped in this afternoon and weighed in their catch. They caught a load of sea bass with a half dozen keepers, a 4 pound 4 ounce fluke as well as a handful of porgies and blackfish. All of the fish were caught on clam.
Capt. Phil Savarese weighed in a 17 pound and 7 ounces bluefish this evening. He fished the Tires today originally targeting fluke for the Hook and Ladder Tournament. While there they saw fish actively feeding close by on top of the water. It turned out to be bluefish crashing on sand eels. They quickly changed to the troll and then hooked into and landed the monster bluedog. Capt. Phil also caught a nice weakfish that was entered into the Hook and Ladder Tournament.
More details on the outcome of the Stafford Vol. Fire Company Hook and Ladder Fishing Tournament will be coming tomorrow.

Yesterday, the 1st Place Winners for the 1st Stafford Twp. Vol. Fire Company Hook-N-Ladder Fishing Tournament were Harold Reck with a 5-lb fluke and Philip Savarese and his crew with a 17-lb Bluefish. The other 31 boats also caught fish but none were bigger than Harold's or Philip's 1st place fish. There were fluke inside the bay and as far out as the range buoy, with herds of Sea Bass all over. Lots of Croakers and Skates too. Also reported was a catch and release of a short Weakfish. Stafford Township Vol. Fire Co. Station #47 plans to make this an annual Fluke Tournament

After ten days down for some necessary boat maintenance, we got the boat back in the water on Wednesday hoping to find that the incredible fluke fishing we've been experiencing this summer was still there. And it was.
Thursday, I had David Kruge out with his 11 year old son Kevin and brother-in-law Jerry. Within a couple of minutes, the first fish came over the side and by the time the morning was over they had landed somewhere around 80 fluke, with two fat flatties in the box. It's still a 40-1 throwback to keeper ratio, but with a fish coming over the side on ultralight tackle every couple of minutes it's surefire fun that hopefully will continue right through the holiday weekend. Shame it has to come to an end, but it's been great while it lasted.
Yesterday, we tried fluking the ocean side one more time to see if things had come around, but again were frustrated. Fluke fishing is just much better in the bay right now. Highlight of the trip was George Selph hooking (and landing!) a hard fighting anchor that someone had deposited on one of our local wrecks.
Still a couple open days this week before the fluke season closes. We're also starting to book up for the fall striper season, so now's the time to grab a prime date.

Sea Devil Charters Fishing Report, Pleasant Beach, NJ, 8-31-10
Saturday, August 28: An awesome day of catching blue fish. Chris Zotti hammered the blues with bait and Eddie Mackin slaughtered them on jigs. The “Usual Suspects: Dr. Jerry, Len & Jane Smith along with nephews Jimmy, Dave & friend Louie, all reeled in fish after fish! Big blues were caught with both bait and jigs! Len Smith won the pool with a 14 pound blue fish! One of the best catch of blues we have had in a while!
Monday, August 28: Another great day on the Sea Devil! Captain Bob sailed to the east edge of the Mud Hole. We stopped and anchored up, keeping the fish under the boat all day. We had very good catches of big blues today: They all weighed eight pounds or more. The biggest fish weighed 14 pounds. The Sea Devil will be fishing for blue fish every day!

Sea Devil Charters Fishing Report, Pleasant Beach, NJ, 8-31-10
Sunday, August 29: if you stayed home today, you missed the best fishing day all season! (If you don't want to cry, don't read anymore!) Not only did we have one of the best days of catching, we had the best weather today, low humidity and abundant sunshine! Captain Bob headed us out the inlet 18+ miles to The Shark River Reef. Before Captain Bob could set the anchor, he was yelling, "Get those jigs in the water!” We had multiple hook ups before the anchor was down. Some fish were lost, but a lot made it over the rail. In less than an hour, we had 100 plus “Killer Sea Devil blues “in the boat. This continued all day! We had Mike I, Mike II, and Mepps Mackin manning the deck. With Captain Bob throwing the chum! It got so hectic, (and you may never see this again), Captain Bob said “skip the wash down, Let’s Get These Fish on the Boat!” 15 - 20 fish on at a time, no time to clean the boat... Joining us today was the Hogan clan: Dad Jim and his girls “V” and Trish ...Dad was beating up on the blues, while the girls got off to a slow start. After a little bit, the girls got into swing again and landed many Killer Sea Devil Blues! Also, Kate Solomon, Philadelphia & Insa Robinson, Trappe, PA, were hitting them hard, as were all of Chuck Firth’s guys. CG limited out, and was still hooking up, handing the rod of to some of the kids. Ed & Jeanne Noonan, Monroe, NY, got in to them heavy, as did Benshaw & Alicia; being a South Paw, Alicia got one of the boats left handed reels! Heather VanSaders, Flanders, NJ, along with her dad, Wayne, were slamming them Sea Devil style! The McDermotts, Lyndhurst, and the Armitage family, Rutherford, were jigging hard all day. The adults fared a little better than the kids at first, but after a little coaching from Cindy, John and Kane McDermott, along with Ernie Armitage, the 4th, were beating up the blues! (Note: there were 3 generations of Armitage men aboard the Sea Devil today!) And of course Team Sperco was with us. Joining us today were\: team founder Paul , team captain Deb, Chuckie " The Iron Man" Firth , Marty "Swivel Hips" Barlow, Artie " The Hook" Weber, and the ever reliable anchor Daly. Tagging along today were Deb’s grandson Nick and 3 of Chuckie’s guys from work: Eduardo, Jose and pal. We won't even go into detail, this gang slaughtered the blues. (Fishing was so good, even Marty limited out! That’s Right… Marty Limited Out!) We all had enough and just before we headed back in a little early, a giant Sunfish jumped three times from 10 -30 feet from the stern! Very awesome sight, .these fish do not often jump! All the blue fish were in the 10 - 15 LB range. Young Ernie Armitage, Rutherford, NJ and Jeanne Noonan, Monroe, NY, each caught a 15 pound blue fish & tied for the biggest catch, splitting the pool today. We had a pretty perfect day today, a great crowd, on a great boat, with a great crew, run by the best captain and his first mate! (Someone tell Marty , to stop singing " We Are The Champions " and don't cry, i told you to stop reading… ) Fishing looks like it has broken open! What are you waiting for? Come on down! Plan to arrive at the dock by 7 a.m.
