New jersey Charter boat and bait and tackle reports, 8-26

    8/25/2010
The weather must have kept everybody home as I had no reports from the beaches yesterday. It should clear later today and be a great weekend.

    Bay / Jetty Report: 8/25/2010
Many stayed in the back bays close to home and fished because of the weather. Well the weakfish have been between 12 and 15 inches and it is just like fluke you are catching a bunch of shorts to get that one keeper. Best place for weakfish has been the back parts of Barnegat Bay. Sorry people but I have not been told where. Also had a few reports of blowfish and short fluke being caught from the back parts of Barnegat Bay. No reports out of Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay yesterday.

    Fresh Water Report: 8/25/2010
Few fished the morning before the rain. I had a few reports of bass being caught but not from where. No one fished the afternoon.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing report, Seaside Park , 8-26-10

    Same Old, Same Old.......
    Wednesday, August, 25, 2010 at 4:40AM
The rainy day yesterday kept the fisherman population extremely low with the resulting lack of fishing report but the good news is the beaches were not crowded at all. We only have about 13 more days of Fluke left so get out the rain gear if you need it and get em while you can.
Here is the latest from the weather idiots - Cloudy...showers...mainly this morning. Highs in the upper 70s. North winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 90 percent. Being as we have light showers now, that should take care of the morning rain soget the rest of the day in if you can.

Jingles Bait and Tackle fishing report, Beach Haven 8-26-10

    Wed Aug 25th

Much drier morning with a WNW wind 10-15. The air is 63 at 5 am and the water is 74.

Days are getting much shorter. I now come to work in the dark and am getting home from work in the dark.

For those of you that have not heard Surf City Bait and Tackle weighed in a 44-3 bass yesterday morning that was caught on fresh bunker between 4 and 6 am. They also had another fish pushing 20 pounds.

Surf fishing is on again! Bluefish 12- 14 inches caught in town on the incoming tide on mullet and also a 20 striper. This angler reported seeing fluke being caught. From the north end we had a phone call with the angler having bluefish 34 inches on chunks of bait up there.

Time to hit the beach the fish are back in town.

One of LBI best dockside anglers Butch K. checked in this am with a 6 1/2 lb fluke. Thanks for showing us there are still some nice fish in the bay.

Last night after work I shot a few beach pictures but darkness got here too quick to hit a lot of areas. Holgate looked better than what I thought because the entrance had not been touched and the other area is at Nelson where they put in the geotubes and it looks like they helped. Thats the area where the houses where the water had been washing under.

These shots were an hour before high tide.

Scotts Bait and Tackle, Mystic Island,Fishing report 8-26-10

    Wednesday, August 25, 2010 /\/\/\ 5:18pm
Not many folks through the store today. Wind and threatening storms had most anglers spooked. Wave heights of four to six didn't encourage any fluke ocean going anglers. Forecast for Thursday is looking good at this point. First anglers out the Inlet tomorrow morning will sure tell if the seas are fishable.
Great Bay anglers continue to focus on the Kingfish off of Graveling Point. There were a couple of anglers who were going to give the kingfishing an honest try with the chum, worms and fresh clams in Marshelder Channel on the Tuckerton Bay side. I hope to hear good news from them soon.

The Chum Bucket Fishing Report, West Creek, NJ, 8-26-10

    Hutchs' Report 8/24/10
    Written by Jim Hutchinson
    Tuesday, 24 August 2010

The weekly report from the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association prior to the northeaster reports that Captain Dave Wittenborn on the “Compass Rose” has seen an upturn in the fishing action when the winds shifted to the east which brought in some warmer waters. With the ocean temperatures now in the mid to upper 70’s, he is seeing some of the best ocean fluking of the summer. He has been getting some great catches of fluke and sea bass with fluke to 23-inches and tipping the scale over 5-pounds. He has also picked up some nice bluefish along the beach while trolling Clarke spoons. Captain George Finck of “Sparetime Charters” reports a canyon trolling trip with Kenny Lieb and his school friends where they returned with a nice catch of yellowfin tuna and mahi. He has also had some inshore reef fishing for decent catches of keeper fluke. Captain Fran Verdi had an “open boat” trip on Saturday despite some sloppy seas. Once the wind switched the waves calmed. Drifting with a combination of bucktails and live bait, they had steady action, mostly on shorts with many less than ½ inch short. In addition to the good action the group finished the day with 4 fluke and 6 black sea bass in the fish box. Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report, Ship Bottom, NJ, 8-26-10

Received: Aug 24, 2010 6:19 PM Subject: Hi Flier Back Bay Fishing Report-- Tue. Aug. 24 2010

The weakfish are in the back bay. So are a number of other species. We are fishing behind Barnegat between the 42 and BI Buoys. The weakies have been 10" to 15" fish, so just like the fluke, you have to catch a bunch to put a few on ice. We are also
catching blowfish, burrfish and a few kingfish. 6-pound spinning tackle is used while anchored in 8 feet of water to keep it sporty. Caught a small cobia, just under a foot long. It's always interesting to see what jumps in the mix of these Aug/Sept back bay trips. I've been seeing peanut bunker flipping around the boat, so it won't be long before some bigger predators start hunting them down. We are also catching fluke and small blues on the light rods and lately the fluke have rebounded to peak over at the top of Oyster Creek and Double Creek Channels. Small blues are chopping our Gulp tails off frequently but some are finding the hook.

All in all, it's a lot of action. We are also grass shrimping the ocean for stripers and blackfish. Sailing open boat every day we are not chartered, both back bay, ocean, offshore, or all in one day.
