New jersey Charter boat and bait and tackle reports, 8-2

    8/2/2010
Did hear too much from the surf yesterday. I guess the little bit of rain kept most at home. Some fluke from the surf and some fluke and blackfish off the Barnegat Inlet jetties.

    8/1/2010
Fluke off the LBI and IBSP surf. Also around the back of IBSP is producing some nice fluke now as well. The keeper ratio is doing ok and improving day by day. Another day I didn't hear from the people fishing sharks. Water temps are in the low 70's so it needs to warm up a bit for sharks.

    Bay / Jetty Report: 8/2/2010
Hank and son Joe went out on a party boat in Delaware Bay for fluke. They both had two keepers with Hank's pool winner going 7.5lbs (pics in gallery). Hank is using one of our Sprial Wrapped Rods. Here is what he had to say:
"The spiral rod and the Tica reel worked great - this fish did cause a little reset of the drag. There was NO TORQUE on the rod during the fight for the big one or the other keeper."
Other reports have fluke being caught from Barnegat Inlet, Manasquan Inlet, the Manasquan River, Little Egg Inlet. Barnegat Bay, Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay are still producing fluke but mostly all shorts now.

    8/1/2010
Fluke and small sharks off the Barnegat Inlet jetties. Barnegat Inlet, Manasquan Inlet, the Manasquan River, Little Egg Inlet were the best places to fish for fluke but Barnegat Bay, Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay did give up some as well. If the fluke fishing is slow and you have kids onboard let them fish for snappers or bring a crab trap or two and have fun crabbing. They are both in full swing now in the bays.

    Fresh Water Report: 8/2/2010
No one fished the morning because of the rain. After the rain people did go fishing and caught fish. Bass, sunnies, catfish some carp and pickeral were all caught. Had a report that the smallmouth fishing on the Delaware River has been good. Pins minnows, senkos and live crayfish are the tickets.

    8/1/2010
Had reports from the Assunpink Creek, Miry Run, Town Center, AMC, Lake Assunpink, Stone Taven, Rosedale Lake and the Delaware River. The reports had people catching bass (also smallmouth on the river), sunnies, catfish and pickeral. Seems live bait, plastics and poppers are working best.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing report, Seaside Park , 8-02-10

    Not bad a day!

    Monday, August, 2, 2010 at 6:12AM

The weather idiots have at least stopped trying to make it rain - Partly sunny. Highs in the lower 80s. East winds 5 to 10 mph...becoming southeast 10 to 15 mph this afternoon. Sounds like a winner for the beach.
Things remain pretty much the same with the daytime guys chasing down the Fluke with GULP on bucktails with some pretty good catches from the beach and boats. The night crew is looking for sharks and overall they have had some intense adrenalin rushes. Not much happening with Bass and blues, partly because not many anglers are putting in the effort. The crabbing and snappers in the bay has been bordering on wow at times. lotsa fun to be had there not to mention dinner!
Do you know how to keep Mike in suspense for a day? I will tell ya tomorrow.

    Got Fluke?
    Sunday, August, 1, 2010 at 4:07AM

The weigh-in list does not show it but there has been a pretty good Fluke bite. We did have a couple of nice weigh-ins but it seems few anglers want to hang a fish on the scale unless it is really big. Under questioning, they admit to some nice catches both on boats and off the beach but they didnt bother weighing them. GULP is the bait either on a bucktail with a teaser or a Fluke rig. We have a load of it! I did see a couple of nice shark pics too! The night crew has been having some fun while the rest of us have been sleeping.
The evil weatherman/wannabe rainmaker is at it again - Partly sunny with a slight chance of showers in the morning...then mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent. With his track record it is kinda hard to believe him. Get out and have some fun anyway. If and when it does rain just take a break and get back to the fun when it blows through.
I place a high value on my relationship with Mike, kinda like a dog and a fire hydrant.

Jingles Bait and Tackle fishing report, Beach Haven 8-02-10

    Mon Aug 2nd

A typical Monday morning with a lot of cars leaving at 5:00am.

Nice morning 70 degrees with little wind and the ocean is 71 degrees.

Before closing last night I had a call from the charter boat Pops Pride. Captain John had a 45 in bluefin along with assorted other fish for his catch of the day.

Another good report from Captain George Finck of Sparetime charters had a Canyon Trip Arrived 6:00A.M. set up trolling spread in the first 15 min we hooked up with two White Marlins which we released.Next we had two hookups on 2 Yellow fin Tuna 70 to 80 pds. Next we caught 5 Long fin Tuna, great day in the canyon!

Miss Beach Haven is our only head boat on this end of the island and does fish the bay in the afternoons. Take advantage of the amount of fluke ( lots of shorts) that are here now and go fishing. Stop by the shop and pick up a pack of gulp to take n your trip.

    Sun Aug 1st

These people know how to fish!!

People that were in shop yesterday and got set up to fluke were back in the shop today to tell us they were sucessful in catching a few from the surf. Some people are changing it up some by using a live minnow on the lead head.

One man from Va told me he has been coming here since he was 4 and never has seen fluking from the surf like it is now.

Randy enjoys catching fluke and kingfish from the surf. He told me today that he caught more fish in 1 day this year than he did in his 2 weeks of being here last year.

Not much talk of snappers but more peanut bunker is moving in to the bay.

Take the kids crabbing. Street ends are producing crabs. Hand lines and traps both are working.

The inlet between the red and the green cans was a good place to be once again today for fluke. You just had to be early or after the brief showers that we had today.

Lots of reports from offshore yesterday. Stories of hook-ups on bigeyes lost at the boat and the same on blue marlin. This year there have been a lot of bill fish to give people the pleasure of catching one. It is exciting if you get the jumps out of them and get them to light up.

Long fin have made an appearance now. Some nice size dophin and bluefin tuna caught also. Boats that fished yesterday had nice condtions to fish the canyon. Reports came from the Spencer, South Toms, Carteret and the Lindy.

The 41st White Marlin Tournament is history. Congratulations to Gary owner of the Last Call for the largest white marlin this year. Nice way to christen the new boat.

Water is 71 this am with an air temp of 77. Looks like some thunderstorms this afternoon which lots of times there is a good fish bite before the storms.

Scotts Bait and Tackle, Mystic Island,Fishing report 8-02-10

    Sunday, August 1, 2010 1:07pm

There was a little bit more positive feedback from anglers fishing both the Little Egg Inlet and out in front of the Southern most towers on Long Beach Island. Please understand, I am not touting limit catches of any sort, but some good numbers of flatties with a high hook of seven keepers. The average happy anglers had one to three keepers in their coolers.
Crabbing reports are still coming in real good from many folks. One of our crabbers put a few SEVEN inchers in the bucket and he crabs the Great Bay Blvd. creeks. He was not specific to exactly where, so I suppose you have to poke around and try several of the smaller creeks until you find some activity.

    Voyager Fishing Report 8-02-10

    August 1, 2010

LING fishing on the VOYAGER was very good again last night. Catches ranged from half-dozen to over 30 LING per person and many of the fish were jumbos. We also had a good amount of COD and closed season FLOUNDER mixed in. We will continue fishing for LING every Saturday night at 7:00 PM throughout August.

And with such good fishing, we are switching back to BOTTOM FISHING for the remainder of the summer. Starting on Saturday, August 7 we will be fishing for LING and SEA BASS every FRIDAY, SATURDAY, and SUNDAY from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. We are no longer running any more FLUKE trips.

The inshore BLUEFIN TUNA and offshore YELLOWFIN TUNA bite has been good so far this season. We have left some weekdays open for both inshore and offshore TUNA trips. We will be announcing these trips on a "short notice" basis based on how the fishing has been. Please keep an eye out for our e-mails as this week's trip filled up very fast. Some people have asked about COD fishing, so we may even throw a COD trip into the mix too.

    Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report 8-02-10

    August 1, 2010

    2:00 PM

This morning, no wind and thus no drift slowed most of the fluke fishing in the bay today. If you latched on to some current or power drifted there was a chance but otherwise the reports were poor.

    Received: Aug 1, 2010 11:14 PM Subject: 8/1/2010 report

Fished the evening outgoing in some of the inlet areas that I have been fishing. Ended up with a bunch of shorts and one nice 23-inch fluke. Fished the excite-a-bite minnows that got from FHQ and they produced some nice action.

Welcome to August! I am almost lost for words for a report on the incredible fluke fishing. Jason Mikula was aboard on yesterday's fluke trip. If you have seen my last few reports it has not changed except for the influx of cow nosed rays. These fish are ranging from 20 to 50 pounds and when hooked up on light tackle add to the excitement of having two or three fluke on at a time. On Friday I chased one ray down for 3/4 of a mile for 20 minutes.

Received: Aug 1, 2010 4:55 PM Subject: Fishing report 7/30 Barnegat fishing charters

Friday, the "Bottom Line" sailed with Mike and his son Anthony with the hopes of going out of Barnegat Inlet. While running the bay I could tell that the ocean was going to be rough because of all the boats staying inside Barnegat Bay. With the poor weather forecast I made the decision to stay relatively close to the inlet. We fished some wrecks 4-7 miles NE of our inlet. We were able to pull a few nice keeper fluke in the 3 to 4 pound size as well as a few nice seabass.

By 10:00 AM the rocking and rolling in the ocean was enough and this being Anthony's first time on a boat the decision was made to go back inside the bay. And boy were we glad that we did. The first drop produced a couple of shorts. Second drop, just as the South wind started to blow a bit, produced a steady pick of mostly keeper fluke -- most fish here were over 19" and were topped by the top fish of the day which was a 26" fluke taken by Mike. This big fluke weighed-in at 7-pounds on my hand scale and the other fluke were in the 3 to 5-lb range. We had about 6 good shots at them before the wind started cranking. By 3:00 PM, the South wind really got moving, and we were having a hard time holding with 8 oz. bucktails, so we called it a day.

When all was said and done we brought 10 quality keeper fluke to the boat, 5 seabass, 3 of the fluke were in the 3 to 5-lb range, topped by Mike's 7-pounder. With the small crew all of us got to fish and everyone put a few keepers in the box - Mike showed us all how it was done that day! This may not have been a banner day by some standards, but we had some nice chunky fillets to show for our efforts!

Looks like another "Bottom Line" OPEN BOAT trip this week... Everybody keeps calling with different dates... Lets pick a day and go... Remember $125 includes all tackle, bait, rods, and water.

Yet another great week of back bay fluke fishing. Anyone who continues to claim that the fluke population needs further rebuilding (if it actually needed rebuilding to begin with) clearly hasn't been on or near the water in several years. The biggest problem we're having putting fish in the box is that there are so many smaller fluke that the bigger ones don't stand a chance to get to our bait. What a problem... too many fish!

Tuesday North Jersey's Cam Rispoli brought his 11 year old son Vincent out to bring 85-90 fish over the side topped by Vincent's fat 22 inch flattie.

Wednesday, Al and Matt Falco were down from Cranford to get in on the party, landing three dozen more led by Matt's 22" fish.

Friday, Chip Harter and Paul Buchanan came out on their annual summer trip, bringing 80-90 more flatties to the net despite some ugly wind against tide conditions most of the morning.

Saturday, Greg Staller brought out his 12 year old daughter Sophie and nephews Nick (12) and Luke (10), and the family team nailed another 45-50 fluke (plus assorted other marine critters) from the inlet channels. Throw in that all these fish are being caught on ultralight outfits with small bucktails and jigs, and this is just crazy fun.

It's impossible to tell just how long this extraordinary fishing is going to last, so take advantage of it while it still going on. I've still got a number of mid week dates available in August, so hop on board and have a blast!

    Received: Aug 1, 2010 9:01 AM Subject: Sharking - Ridge 7/31/2010

Although it was a bit choppy yesterday, we managed to catch/release 2 brown sharks on the east side of the ridge. It was my Dad's first shark - a fun day. We tried to search for clean water - but the ridge was a very dirty green with lots of grass (spread out). Give Ed a big thanks for some of the tips he provided. ~ Brett
