New jersey Charter boat and bait and tackle reports, 8-15

    Saltwater Report: 8/13/2010
Few fluke from the IBSP surf and that is all the reports I had. It must have been the rain showers keeping everybody at home. Lets hope the nice weather for the weekend warms up the water and brings us better fishing.

    Bay / Jetty Report: 8/13/2010
Not many reports from the bays or inlets. But I did hear of some keeper fluke being caught from Tuckerton Bay and Barnegat Bay. Must have been the lack of people fishing because of the weather. Looks like the bays and inlets will be jammed this weekend because the ocean looks pretty rough. Just be careful.

    Fresh Water Report: 8/13/2010
Few fished between the showers yesterday. Only had a couple of reports and they came from Miry Run and some place on the Assunpink Creek (wasn't told where). Miry Run had bass and some pickeral caught and the Assunpink had carp being caught and that's it.

Scotts Bait and Tackle, Mystic Island,Fishing report 8-14-10

    Friday, August 13, 2010 /\/\/\ 5:13pm

Early anglers didn't get out on the ocean due to a blustery East wind; anglers who fished the bay still got beat up. It didn't appear to be that windy inland, but on the water, it wasn't such a nice day. One twenty inch fluke is the flatty report of the day and they found that fish out in front of Little Sheepshead Creek.
Many anglers were in for bunker and chose to hide up a creek out of the wind and call it a crabbing day.

Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report, Ship Bottom, NJ, 8-14-10

    August 13, 2010

Received: Aug 13, 2010 7:43 PM Subject: Friday, August 13 Fishing Report

I fished the bay today and had one nice keeper fluke and 10 shorts. Too many birds (sea robins) for my liking. They love sand eels. Was using Power Pro for the first time. That I like it. All fish were caught with a Gulp swimming mullet, squid strip and sand eels.

Received: Aug 13, 2010 11:15 AM Subject: Hi Flier Fishing Report-- Stripers on Lite Tackle!

We have been catching crazy numbers of stripers on 10 pound spinning tackle the last few days. Chumming with live grass shrimp into the Barnegat Inlet jetty. Also in the mix have been, blackfish, sea bass, and a few huge porgies. This fishery is typical throughout the summer. Most of the stripers are 22' to 26" but each of the last few trips have yielded one keeper for the cooler. I suspect we have had a few more legal ones on but they know to run right over the rocks and when the light line hits those mussels on the jetty, it comes back in shreds. We can switch to heavier tackle, but after you battle the most common size on the light stuff, it's hard to switch to the heavy stuff. Check out the videos to see what we're doing:

We have not been running offshore lately with all the heavy southerly wind, but after this next 4 day blow of heavy east comes through, I will be anxious to visit Barnegat Ridge and the Mud Hole to see what new life it has brought to these grounds. Still catching lots of fluke in the bay, as well, best season for numbers I have ever seen. Still catching about 1 keeper out of 20, but we're jigging them on light tackle and having a blast. 3/8 oz lead head jigs tipped with Gulp swimming mullet and shrimp. Yesterday we caught a dozen weakfish and two puffers on the west side of Barnegat Bay, though, they were all under the 13" minimum. Back out today to try to find the kingfish, a guy on the radio had six nice ones on ice. We are running open boat, single reservations every day or you can charter the boat.

Sandy Hook Fishing Report, Port Monmouth, NJ, 8-15-10

Today we had on 3 generations of the Booth Family for a half day Fluke Trip, Lance and his lovely wife, his daughter Chris and son-in-law Dave and grandsons Ryan 7 and Adian 3. Day was picture perfect but conditions were tough. Had a stiff SE wind and then it was wind against tide. Dispite this the day was a blast, young Ryan caught the first Fluke of his life and the fisrt in the boat, Lance boated a healthy 19" fish and then it was weeding through the shorts. Conditions were real tough but the fish did chew. Chris came on strong at the end and wound up high hook for the day. A great family and i really enjoyed seeing the boys taking it all in.

    Fisherman Fred's Fishing Report, Hamilton,NJ, 8-15-10

    Saltwater Report: 8/14/2010
Only a few fluke from the LBI and IBSP surf were reported. I also had reports of some short stripers being caught as well. No word from the people fishing sharks at night. As far as boaters go, most fished the bays and inlets because of the strong east wind yesterday.

    Bay / Jetty Report: 8/14/2010
Well not too good of a day on the bays with the east wind but some keeper fluke were reported from Barnegat Bay, Tuckerton Bay and Great Bay. A lot of people just went crabbing in the back parts of the bay to get out of the wind. Oh and by the way the crabbing is going really good now. Also don't forget you can have some fun on light tackle with the snappers. I also heard that some blowfish were caught from Barnegat Bay but until I hear from someone who caught them, lets just call it a rumor.

    Fresh Water Report: 8/14/2010
What a day to fish. The weather turned out to be great in the after noon. Only bad thing was not too many reports came in. Only thing that was reported was bass and sunnies from Town Center and some bass from Miry Run.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing report, Seaside Park , 8-15-10

    Gonna be a Pretty Day
    Saturday, August, 14, 2010 at 4:29AM
Feels like Fall out there! Fishing yesterday was on the slow side. Few fluke on the jetty and surf.. Tog fishing has been pretty good with anglers taking home their huge legal limit of one! Did here a couple reports of blowfish starting to show up in the usual bay spots(BB-BI)so it′s something to keep in mind for you boat guys. Todays weather is going to be great with Partly Cloudy skies and highs in the low 80′s......Ray

Jingles Bait and Tackle fishing report, Beach Haven 8-15-10

    Sat Aug 14th

It was a beautiful day here at the beach but not much to report because of ocean condtions. Life guards kept everybody close because of currents which made it hard to hold bottom for surfcasters.

Boaters stayed in the bay and caught a few keepers but mostly shorts, sharks and sea robins.

Wind is blowing out of the NE about 12- 15. Air temp this am is a feels good 71 and the ocean is 74.

It is a shame when there are Jr. Angler Tournaments that you get windy days like today.

Small craft advisory is in effect through this
    afternoon. As of 4:10 am

Coastal Waters from Sandy Hook to Manasquan Inlet out to 20 miles

    - Today E 10- 15 gust to 20 seas 3-5

Tonight SE 10-15 diminishing to 5-10 after midnight seas 3-5 mainly in long period swells.
Sun 5-10 increasing to 10-15 seas 3-5 in long period swells.

Scotts Bait and Tackle, Mystic Island,Fishing report 8-15-10

    Saturday, August 14, 2010 /\/\/\ 6:04pm
Ocean going anglers were very few in number. The six foot seas were not a fun place to be. One angler reported three keepers at the Rutgers Buoys; I say he sure earned them. Many fluke boats worked the Little Egg Inlet and all the other hot spots mentioned this week to come up with very few flatties at all and no keepers amongst the low numbers.
Better news on the small fish fishery. Several anglers starting to report some kingfish, blowfish, porgies and even spot. There haven't been any big numbers of fish, but enough action entertain and possibly a few fish to clean. Clam chum is a must as it's necessary to pull the few fish into feeding mode.

Avalon Hodge Podge Fishing Report, Avalon, NJ, 8-15-10

    August 14, 2010

    Avalon Hodge Podge

    Bait ~ Tackle ~ Marine

    FISHING REPORT

We had a couple more fluke weighed in this week with two of them close to seven pounds! Jerry Lynch (formally of the 15# fluke fame) weighed in a Fluke this week that was 6.96# & 25 ½” using what else, Gulp! This fish was not caught off shore but in the back bay close to where the 15 pounder came from. Also, Bob Scully of Avalon weighed in a 6.72# & 26” fluke from out front in the ocean using Gulp and minnows.

Kingfish have moved into the back bay as well as croakers and are being caught using clam or bloodworms. At night there are stripers being caught around the bridges and lit docks where the bait fish gather. There are peanut bunker taking refuge at night in the back bay and the bass are getting fat!

The off shore tuna bite has been tough due to weather. However, those with boats big enough are reporting good catches still in the canyons.

Tautog fishing is good right now and Ryan from Fishing Creek reported catching lots of them at the 8th street jetty using green crabs. Also, the kingfish in the surf continues to be good on bloodworms. The biggest fluke weighed in this week was caught by the Derita boys, Joe and Matt from Newtown Square. This fish was 5.92# & 25” caught using Gulp Shrimp on a green/white bucktail near the Avalon Yacht Club.

Offshore the fluke action is heating up on the reefs using minnows & squid or gulp. Also the tuna action continues to be good at the usual spots on the troll.
