New Jersey Fishing Reports
Saltwater Report:
7/31/2010
What can I say but fluke. Fluke on Gulp from the surf during the day. Yeah I know same report day after day now but hey that is what it is. The shark fishing has slowed because the water temps cooled down some. Once the water temps come back up you will have sharks at night again. Bluefish are in and out of the surf as well but you have to be there when they are there or you will think I am full of it about them. Hudson Canyon is producing catches of white and blue marlin as well as yellowfin. Around the Chicken Canyon area catches of smaller bluefin is going on.
Bay / Jetty Report
7/31/2010
It seems that Barnegat Inlet, Manasquan Inlet, the Manasquan River, and Little Egg Inlet were the places to be to fish for fluke. Looks like they maybe on their way out of the bays now. Barnegat Bay, Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay still have catches but most are shorts. Snappers are now all over the place in the bays. A small metal will do the trick. Crabbing is going strong, with 5 to 6 dozen being common now. common now.
Fresh Water Report:
7/31/2010
Few were fishing yesterday. Some bass, sunnies, and catfish were caught from Town Center. A few bass, pickeral, and carp were caught from Miry Run. They are the only reports I got yesterday but believe me fish are being caught in all local lakes and streams.

Last Day - GarbageFish Tournament!
Saturday, July, 31, 2010 at 4:04AM
We are open till midnight for all you GarbageFishermen to bring in your winning catches! Think of the CASH! Think of the PRIZES! Think of the braggin rights and the envy of all your fishin buddies!!! There is still time to overachieve so make me proud.
Fluke are the number one target on the beach right now and the weigh-in list (lower left corner of this page) shows what putting in some time and effort will do for your dinner menu. GULP has been the most effective bait with Swim Mullets on a bucktail and Ghost Shrimp on a teaser as a deadly combination. I am hearing of small blues in the surf now. The usual bluefish thing of just showing up and then poof, they are gone. Very disrespectful. Crabbing in the bay has been both entertaining and delicious. Snapper fishing has been good and at times insane.
It is looking like a perfect beach day and the evil weatherman has grudgingly agreed - Sunny. Highs in the lower 80s. North winds 5 to 10 mph...becoming east in the afternoon.
New stuff - 8 oz. Bucktail Jigs for you deep water Flukers.
More new stuff - Bobs Bait Boards - Cooler top (velcro attached) cutting boards great for the beach or boat. Lots of sizes to fit a wide variety of coolers. There is even one that comes with a Dexter Russell filet knife and sharpening rods in built in storage!
I havent given Mike a thought yet this morning and I may as well keep it that way because he has no place to put one!

Jingles Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Beach Haven 8-01-10
Sat July 31st
A good number of king fish on the beach today on the out going tide. They wanted the real thing (blood worms) there was no fooling them today.
The fluke are on the move. Great catches in the inlet but you are catching 52 fish to get a keeper. Nice keeper caught by Tom near Marshelder Channel. His fish was 7-12 and caught on sea robin.

Nice morning 69 degrees no wind and the ocean is 70.
Sea bass action is hot and cold as they go thru their spawn period but some nice ones are being caught.

Despite not the nicest condtions for the small boats in the Beach Haven Tourament alot of fish were weighed in last night. Weigh-in ran late with all the fish. Many small boats turned around yesterday. Day 2 results are really day one because no one fished the first day. Conditions are much nicer this am. Good luck to all today. Results below are only the top fish there were alot of tuna weighed in yesterday.Yes there was a white marlin!

Scotts Bait and Tackle, Mystic Island,Fishing Report 8-01-10
Saturday, July 31, 2010 /\/\/\ 5:59pm
A little bit better news from some anglers today.... Again, there is a mixture of keeper fluke in the Little Egg Inelt. The inlet is still producing the best catches. A few ocean going anglers have found fluke on the open bottom and were able to catch a good number of fluke. The trick they say is REPEATED SHORT DRIFTS over very specific locations where the fluke are bunched up.
Inshore seabass fishing is still tough. Two just barely keepers was the exciting catch of the day.
A couple of anglers have attempted to catch white perch this week and were able to come up with a one or two, but could put no number of fish together.
Congratulations Donny O on the big SIXTY; HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

FISHING REPORT
This week we weighed in two fluke over 7 pounds! Gwen from Williamstown, NJ weighed in hers at 7.04# & 27” using bucktail in the back bay while Joe Ambroses’ fluke was 8.20# & 28” using sea robin while drifting near the Avalon Yacht Club. Also right from the beach using clam, Vickie from New Hope, PA landed a black drum that weighed in at 16.53# & 31”.
Crabbing and clamming are very good right now with some customers reporting crabs measuring 7-8” at the local docks using bunker. Those clamming in the local waters are reporting having no problem getting their limit of 150 clams in one outing!

Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report
July 31, 2010
Donna Harris of the Village Harbor Fishing Club weighed in a nice fluke caught off the surf in North Beach. The fish was 21-˝ inches and weighed 3-lbs 12-ounces. It is a great sign that we are finally starting to see a few keeper fluke caught off the surf. She said it is about time she has caught a legal fish to weigh in for the fishing club.
Received: Jul 31, 2010 9:56 AM Subject: 07/30/10 Barnegat fishing report
Had Rock n Roller Sammy, Steve C , Rich Dyer, and his two boys Chris and Joe aboard for a fluke trip today. Ran North coming out of Barnegat Inlet again. Started in a spot that has been real good to us this year. Picked up a few fish not a whole lot of life. We had a west wind and a no current -- real slow drift... Ran a little further North, and found a little better life and we boated a few keepers in there while picking up a 5 pounder. Also had some seabass.
We then ran off to the east and Joe immediately boated a nice fish, but that was it. A few wiggles, then a move further offshore resulted in a couple of shorts and no keepers.
Started making our way back with a South wind coming on, stopped a couple of times, all shorts. Drift was fast as we had a south current and a south wind together but there was an okay pick of mostly "quality" shorts in the 17 to just under 18" range, with a few keepers mixed in. Sammy the rocker hit the jackpot with a 7 pounder on a 8oz bucktail. ( that the captain suggested) it was a beautiful fish.
By 2 PM the drift everywhere was insanely fast with the hard south wind coming on, so we made our way home. stopping one more time in Barnegat Bay. I believe everyone wound up with at least 1 keeper and Joe led the way with 3. The "Bottom Line" finished with 9 in the box topped by the 7 pounder and 5 pounder. The rest of the keepers were in the 18-21" range. We also wound up with 4 keeper seabass.
Thanks to the guys for coming down, some great laughs as usual and some nice fillets going home at the end of the day

Reel Fantasea Fishing Report, Barnegat, NJ, 8-01-10
Barnegat Fishing
FRIDAY, 30 JULY 2010

Prolonged Southerly winds has taken it's toll on inshore ocean temps creating cooler bottom temperature to up well along the beaches and inlet which has played well for a nice spike in striped bass and blackfish activity, while the back bay continues to offer non -stop action with fluke but with few keepers to put on ice.
We continue rely on seabass fishing to put some meat in the cooler. Dave Davis from Lancaster PA joined by son Troy were out for some drop and reel seabass action nearly filling 2/3 of 120qrt cooler with tasty seabass before trips end. Andy Pemerick and son Hunter along with Chris Weed and son Brandon had steady action through out the morning with short fluke, unfortunately unable to throw any keepers in the cooler before trips end .
Regular Joe Franke scored 2 sporty stripers on light spinning tackle before turning our attention to get our limit of blackfish . With our limit of black fish Joe picked a keeper fluke out of all the throw backs before a thunder storm sent us running for cover.
The Chris Simmons Party joined by sons Jack and KC and Uncle and regular Jay Simmons were out ducking in between thunderstorms for a slow start in the back bay only scoring a porcupine puffer and a power house cow nosed ray before heading over to the inlet to score nice action with striped bass to 29". Jay was his usual mistro wielding his fishing rod in a well orchestrated technique taking bass master as per usual !. The next morning the guys were back out for round 2 for a mix of fluke, blackfish , blow fish, king fish, porcupine puffers, and even our first weakfish of the year !
Best Regards,
Capt. Steve Purul
