New jersey Charter boat and bait and tackle reports, 7-27-10

    New Jersey Fishing Reports

    Saltwater Report:
    7/27/2010
Here I go again, fluke during the day and sharks at night off the surf on LBI and IBSP. I heard the fluke fishing is getting better everyday now. The throw back ratio is getting better and some bigger fluke are being caught. Don't get me wrong, a lot of them are 17 3/4 or just at 18 inches but hey it is fun.

    Bay / Jetty Report:
    7/27/2010
Had a report that Barnegat Bay is loaded with fluke but still not too great of a keeper ratio. This report came from someone who has fished the bay for 25 to 30 years for fluke. Barnegat Inlet, Manasquan Inlet, the Manasquan River, Little Egg Inlet, Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay all had reports of fluke as well. Most on Gulp but killies were working pretty good too.

    Fresh Water Report:

    7/27/2010
Better weather and more people fishing so more reports. I can't list all the places but it seems the strom made the fishing better. bass, crappie, sunnies, and catfish from all the local fishing holes.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Seaside Park, 7-28-10

    Downright chilly this morning!
    Tuesday, July, 27, 2010 at 4:58AM
The weather idiots are giving us a break in the heat and humidity - Sunny. Highs around 90. Northwest winds around 5 mph... becoming southwest this afternoon. Yup, sounds like a beach day.
There is a definite shift in the Fluke fishing with more larger fish around. The throwback ratio is getting much more acceptable. Rumors of bluefish are abundant but it has been a long time since the proof was hanging on our scale. The night crew has been sharking with good results from the pictures I have been seeing. Not sure if they are getting thier adrenalin surge from catching them or from trying to get thier hooks back.
I have to stop complaining about Mikes shortcomings and just focus on his longsayings!

He just has to stop complaining. Complains about me, the weatherman, the lack of fisherman, the heat, the cold. The only thing he doesn′t complain about is his ability to complain. Now he′s got me complaining........
Great fishing yesterday with Capt John of the Debra Ann and Capt John of the Tijereta. Had them out on the Evil Queen. Had three keeper fluke to 23″ with a mess of almosts and keeper seabass........

Jingles Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Beach Haven 7-28-10

    Tues July 27th
Fluke were caught from the surf this morning on the outgoing tide. Lisa who is a fluker and a kingfish person did not catch on the low yesterday but had them this morning on the outgoing tide with bucktail-teaser and white gulp. Lisa had 4 fish two close enough to measure.
The bay and inlet are getting to be mostly throw back. Very few keepers today in the bay or inlet.
Garden State South had a good showing of fluke and sea bass today.
Mike was in to show me a couple of his fish that he caught today. Mike fishes wrecks that are a few miles off the beach (could be 20 miles) and ones that are rarely fished and he is every sucessful doing it. Mike had his limit of big sea bass today and 1 keeper fluke all caught on artificals and jigs.

Another feel good morning with the cool air. The temp is 70 this am and the ocean is 71 with a lite N wind.
Smell of smoke in the air still this morning here in town. Last night with the wind blowing I had to close the windows because of the strong smell of fire. The last I heard was that the fire was alot bigger than orginal. Last night they were saying 400 acres.
Yesterday fluking for all was slower. I don't know if it was the stronger north wind or if on Sunday it was a better day because of the front going thru. Lots of times when you have pressure drops on fronts in makes the the fish turn on.
Cow nose rays were plentiful yesterday either breaking rods or pulling them into the surf.
Boats are offshore today taking advantage of the lower seas and scouting things out for the start of Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Clus White Marlin Tournament start on Thurs.
Our Baitmasters bait supply is getting low so try to get in early if you have not gotten yours. Our supply of selects and med/large are real low. We still are okay on smalls and horses. Plenty of mullet and squid left but all the tournament rigged bally are gone.

Captain Andy's Fishing Report, Margate City, NJ, 7-28-10

    Fishing Report 7-25-10

The fishing scene has been as hot as the weather the past week. Flounder are still biting in the back bays with inlets and deeper channels being the hot spots. Minnows, squid, and Gulp! Will do the trick. Around the corner in the surf, Kingfish are still being caught on Gulp! Bloodworms and Fish Bites. The bite on the reef improved in the past few days due to some warmer water, with anglers coming back with 3-4 keepers each trip. Use long strip baits if you're fishing the wrecks and reef sites. Getting into the deep water, canyon fishing has exploded in the past week. The 40 line was so full of life that a local captain described it as resembling a scene from Animal Planet, with 60+ foot whales feeding on sand eels. Depth finder screens turned black due to the amount of sand eels in the water. Gaffer dolphin, yellowfin and Blue Marlin were among the fish caught. Most boats fishing caught their limit of yellowfin.

    Local Catches

    1. Night Moves with Captain Carl Schmollinger had 2 yellowfin inside the 40 line.

    2. Margate local Billy Cundiff had a 20.77lb striper off the beach in Margate (Pic)

    3. Billy Cundiff Jr. caught a 3lb 8oz fishing with his dad behind Margate. (Pic)

    4. The Oí Beth II Charter out of Margate with Captain Eric Jefferis and crew member Brook Ganguzza of Sparta, NJ had a 6lb 4oz flounder on the GE reef on Saturday. (Pic)

    5. The Fish Ní Fun pontoon boat had 7 keepers in the inlet in the morning on Sunday.

The Chum Bucket Fishing Report, West Creek, NJ, 7-28-10

    Hutchs' Report 7/27/10
    WRITTEN BY JIM HUTCHINSON
    TUESDAY, 27 JULY 2010
Fluke fishing seems to be the name of the game for the boats of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association. Captain George Finck of “Sparetime Charters” reports finding fish both in the bay and just outside the inlet. He took Leslie Nugent and her 12 year old son Cooper bay fishing recently for fluke. Young Cooper caught the big fish of the day, a 3.5 pound fluke. Another day Captain George had the Ted Sokolowski family out trolling for bluefish right off the beaches of LBI, and they finished the day with a nice catch of eating sized blues. Captain Fran Verdi of the “Drop Off” reports he has switched gears and is now fishing for fluke both in the open ocean and at the reef sites. He reports despite a bit of a slow bite on the fluke in the ocean, he has been bringing some keepers across the rail. The back bay bite for fluke is still strong, but most fish are too small. The sea bass bite is erratic as the fish are now in the spawning mode. Captain Fran is looking forward to some tuna action in the near future and plans to fish in this weekend’s White Marline Invitational with Captain Bob Gerkens on the “Hot Tuna.” Additional information on the association can be found at www.BHCFA.com or by calling 1-877-LBI-BHCFA (1-877-524-2423).

The Fishermen Fishing Report, Altantic Highlands, NJ, 7-28-10

    Atlantic Highlands Fishing Reports

    Fishermen/ Ocean Fishing report 7/27/10
Fished the ocean for the second day in a row....Had the last of the incoming tide and a pick going on a couple keepers and some shorts.
Told the guys to be patient and wait for the change....At the change, we put on the weight as the bite turned on!!
Several fish from 3 to 6.7 pounds. Very good action for the rest of the day.

First timer on the Fishermen, John Simlar, Staten Island had the hot hand landing 5 great fluke, 2 nice Sea Bass and the pool fish at 6.7 pounds!!! (pics attached)...hope you come back John!!!

The guys who read my post last night were glad they did as they commented about the heavy artilery as they boarded this morning.
Thanks to Bob Silva who flew all the way up from Boca Raton to fish with us!
Bob had all the shorts he could handle, just couldn't hit that magic 18 inch number (Thanks to the powers that be)!!!

Chartered Thursday and Saturday mornings this week.

Afternoon Bluefishing 3:30pm till 9:30pm Saturday and Sunday..Hopefully this will be the week the bite turns on. Can't remember a season that the fishing has been this tough for Blues, so far!

Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs Kids Tournament - August 7, 2010

    1:00 PM

Today, Greg and Blake fished with Capt. Sam W. There were a good number of fluke on the eastern side of the dike and the area where double creek meets oyster creek. We bucktailed for about four hours this morning. Capt. Sam's tally at the end of the trip was at one hundred and five. All fluke were released except one that was just over 18 inches. Blake was high hook and Greg finessed the only keeper (sheer luck). Thanks Sam! ~ Greg
