VOYAGER FLUKE AND NIGHT LING REPORT
    July 19, 2010

FLUKE fishing picked up a bit over the weekend. We had good short action with some nice keepers mixed in. Bill Werking of Toms River made both trips Saturday and ended up with a limit of fish up to 3 1/4 pounds. Walt Steward of Toms River had three keepers and won the pool with a 4 1/2 pound FLUKE. We have been fishing the local reefs and other rough bottom so we have also been seeing some SEA BASS mixed in.

We had nice weather for our Saturday night LING trip and the fishing was good. Most anglers had from 8-15 fish with high hook being around 20. Most of the LING were jumbos between 2 1/2-3 1/2 pounds. We also had a couple of keeper COD mixed in. We sail every Saturday night for LING from 7PM-1AM.

    New Jersey Fishing Reports

    7/19/2010
Broken record again, fluke during the day and brown sharks at night. Kingfish have been hit or miss lately but should improve. Not a lot of people are fishing so they must be out in the sun or sitting in the AC.

    7/18/2010
Fluke are being caught from the surf in LBI and IBSP now in pretty good numbers. The keeper ratio is about 10 to 1 or so. At night it is brown sharks on bunker. Kingfish is spotty off the LBI surf. Water warms up some they bite as soon as the south wind kicks in the bite stops. So it is hit or miss right now. Fluke from inshore is doing ok but the numbers of fish are in the 30 range with only 1 keeper most the time. The Canyons have had catches of mahi, yellowfin and a few marlin.

    7/17/2010
Not much from the surf but fluke in the day and sharks at night. Fluke on Gulp or squid and sharks on bunker. Of course not many reports because not many are fishing I been told.

    Bay / Jetty Report:

    7/19/2010
Barnegat Bay, Barnegat Inlet, Manasquan Inlet, the Manasquan River, Little Egg Inlet, Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay all had catches of fluke. The bays you have to work a bit hard then the inlets right now. Heard Barnegat Inlet the fluke are very aggresive and can be caught on any type of bait. Also snappers are around but not in great numbers yet. It is still hit or miss. Crabbing remains very good.

    7/18/2010
Barnegat Inlet and Manasquan Inlet have both been producing some good catches of fluke. Barnegat Inlet is also had catches of blackfish and triggerfish off the rocks. The Manasquan River is also producing some good catches of fluke. Keeper ratios are around 8 to 1 right now. Little Egg Inlet, Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay has slowed a bit for catches of fluke. I didn't hear any reports from them yesterday. Snappers are also being caught from the bays now. Crabbing has picked up and is now doing great. Hearing of full bushels now in a few hours.

    7/17/2010
Little tough to fish the bays yesterday with the hard south wind. The drift was pretty fast and the bays had some white caps on them. But those who tried did have catches of fluke. The keeper ratio wasn't too good though. Crabbing is still going strong.

    Fresh Water Report:

    7/19/2010
Not many fishing the heat of the day but mornings and dusk are still producing some good fishing.

    7/18/2010
The water has cleared up a bit and the fishing has gotten better. Had a bunch of reports from all over that bass, sunnies, catfish, pickeral and a few crap were caught. Live bait and plastics are working.

    7/17/2010
The Assunpink Creek, Miry Run, Town Center, AMC, Lake Assunpink, Stone Taven, Rosedale Lake and the Delaware River are just to name a few places where reports came in from. Not all reports had people catching fish but there were bass, sunnies, catfish and pickeral caught. Not hearing much from the small mouth crowd this year yet.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Seaside Park, 7-20-10

    Same Old, Same Old
    Monday, July, 19, 2010 at 4:58AM
Fluke in the surf is the game most anglers are playing and the most productive bait is the bucktail with a Gulp! The Blackfish season is open (limit one) but not hearing much about them yet. The night crew is going after sharks and I have seen some pretty impressive cell phone pics.
More of the same on the heat wave too but the evil weatherman just had to add in t-storms - Partly sunny. A chance of showers and thunderstorms... mainly this afternoon. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall this afternoon. Breezy with highs in the upper 80s. Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent. Just think how much you were looking forward to this while you were shoveling two feet of snow last February.
Mike has today off (to rest up from sprained lips and a dislocated tongue from all the talking this weekend)

The evil weatherman must be too hot to invent a dismal forecast. This is what they came up with - Mostly sunny. Hot with highs in the lower 90s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
Fluke off the beach is what was happening yesterday. We had a few nice ones weighed in and had reports of a lot more. The throwback ratio is still high which is what to expect early in the season. Gulp is getting the job done and we have plenty. The shark fishermen went out in force last night so I expect there is plenty of free flowing adrenalin out there because there has been a pretty good night bite. Crabbing in the bay has been consistantly good and we have a lot of happy crabby customers? Hmmmm.
You still have till the end of July to score in the second annual GarbageFish Tournament. I expected to see more weigh-ins from the Grumpy customers based upon self-descriptions of their fishing skills(?). Not entered? We have the forms in the store or you can get it done at www.garbagefish.com
I had a lengthy talk with Mike again yesterday. All I said was Hi and he just babbled away. Now, if he just had something to say.

From what I am hearing, it is Fluke on Gulp daytime and Sharks on bunker at night. Some blues scattered about and a short bass here and there. The crabbing in the bay is really good but the snapper fishing has been hot and cold.
The GarbageFish Tournament still has a couple of weeks to go! You cant win it if you arent in it! I get to listen to you guys complain all year about the Skates, Sea Robins and Dogfish that you are catching instead of Bass so put all that skill to work and put some cash in your pocket! Entry forms are at the store or do it online at www.garbagefish.com
The evil weatherman has this for today - Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 90s. Northwest winds around 10 mph...becoming southwest in the afternoon.
When I first met Mike he was dumb and boring. Now he is the opposite - boring and dumb!

Jingles Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Beach Haven 7-20-10

    Mon July 19th
Cloudy morning with a temp of 78 lite west wind an an ocean temp of 72.
Yesterday surfcasters found lots of short fluke. Kingfish rigs with wide gap hooks and squid worked while working them slowly in the suds. A few more small blues showing up with mullet and metal.
Yesterday morning was slow for fluke at the 109 - 113 area but Pops Pride found 20 with 1 keeper in the inlet. On Friday Pop Pride also found some bluefish but not where he wanted them to be. John had a trip off 50 miles and had hook-ups of bluefin and bluefish at the same time. Not the fish you want on your tuna lures.
Early start for me on Mondays. I always alot of catching up after the weekends and making sure we have orders in to have what you need for you fishing trips. Always new things coming in and changing as the fishing changes.
They say a chance of showers today! We'll see. Have a great day.!
    Sun July 18th
The what I thought was a cool morning turned into another hot day. At 4 pm it is 92 here on the beach with a SW wind about 12 and the ocean 70.

This weekend was a real mixed bag of fishing for boaters. Some had their best ever and others could not buy a fish. Tides in the bay seem to be the key. The last of the incoming tide to the top and you get about a 45 minute flurry of activity. If you are lucky you may get dinner. Belive in the gulp it works but add something with it. Try a minnow or spearing with the 4 in swim mullet. If you like bucktails jig it.

Ocean fishing for sea bass was a slow pick for many but again some had great days on the deeper water wrecks.

Surface water is in low 70s but the bottom is about 30 degrees cooler. From divers down this weekend they tell me there are nice fluke there in the 5 - 7 pound range and lots of fish but the water was in the 40s.

With the offshore forecast not favorable a lot of tuna and marlin fisher-man spent the weekend having a good time with the fluke.

Crabbing at the dock has improved for most but if you want to go crabbing by boat go to the bridge and hit the mainland side.

We had one angler in that had a bunch of kings from the surf but mostly small. We heard the same about the surf fluke today. People who do it will have 4 or 5 but all throw backs.

    Sat July 17th

A day of lots of shorts in the bay. Weather man was right with the winds coming on this afternoon. Most of the offshore boats stayed in or used their smaller boats and fluked.

We are now carrying spreaders bars and lures from Sterling Tackle. Spreader bars have been hot for tuna along with bally. We also carry bars from Tournament Cable.

Scotts Bait and Tackle, Mystic Island,Fishing Report 7-20-10

    Sunday, July 18, 2010 /\/\/\ 1:05pm
One angler saves the day with a report of a few keepers captured in the Little Egg Inlet. I believe the total count of fish caught was thirty seven. Good to here some one had a fluke dinner.
No news on anyone keeping their one tog this weekend. All is quiet on the weakfish scene as well.
A couple of anglers were hitting the bars with clam chum looking to create a little action. One was just looking to catch a bunch of anything to keep the kids happy while the other angler had some hopes of coming up with some kingfish as he has heard some action on kingies along the beach in Brigantine.

    Saturday, July 17, 2010 /\/\/\ 5:47pm
Writing reports is a lot more fun when I can pass along loads of good news. That's not going to happen this afternoon. After the brief lightning and rain this morning, anglers did get out on the bay. Anglers who hit the ocean didn't find much of a drift. Slim pickings on both shorts and keepers reported from all over. No one was offering good catching reports of any kind this afternoon. Even though pizza is for dinner, anglers still had a nice day on the water.

Captain Andy's Fishing Report, Margate City, NJ, 7-20-10

    INDIAN RIVER INLET FISHING REPORT
    July 16th, 2010

Surf - spot, blues, kingfish and croakers on the beach. Reports of croakers just started on 3R's. Live and fake bloodworms are the hot bait. The shark bite remains good on bluefish and fresh bunker. We have fresh and frozen bluefish.

Inlet - Daytime = bluefish on the incoming tide. A good flounder bite was reported mid week on Gulp baits. Look for black drum and croakers to start biting in the inlet any day. The tautog bite is steady with a few keepers in the mix.

Inlet - Nightime = stripers on live eels during incoming tide. Dark bucktails and swim shads are working too.

Note: there seems to be a great deal of confusion about a slot limit for striped bass. There is a one fish slot limit of 20-26 inches in the Delaware Bay ONLY during July and August. The limit in Indian River is still 2 fish at 28 inches.

Croakers should start to school up just off the beach in 20-40 feet of water in the coming weeks. Flounder and small trout are usually there with them.

Seabassing on the Old Grounds (the are between B and A buoy)is improving. A little further out dolphin are around the Lightship. Bluefins in Masseys Canyon and the yellowfins are way north toward the Spencer Canyon.

    FISHING REPORT

Not much has changed this week. For the most part there are still a lot of short Fluke being caught in the back bay and the reefs and wrecks have not quite turned on yet. Fishing from the surf, most are catching kingfish and trigger with some fluke mixed in. Mike from Washington Twp weighed in a 2.94# & 15” Trigger caught at the TI Bridge using clam.

The off shore Tuna bit continues to be great and now some guys are targeting the White Marlins and hooking up in the Wilmington Canyon with some decent sized fish. These are being caught on the troll with ballyhoo. The Lobster Claw has decent sized dolphin there. Ed Iwanicki weighed in one that measured 36 ˝” and weighed 16.24 pounds while trolling bally’s and Islander lures.

Golden Eagle Fishing Report, Belmar, NJ, 7-20-10

    July 19th

Looks like the spawn is upon us, with a picky bluefish bite! Both day and night trips have experienced some slow fishing mixed with some fast action. A good body of fish has moved into the normal summer grounds and should start to bite better as the spawn comes to an end. That can be anytime so dont miss out on a good bite.

Day trips are still producing large blues on jigs and bait with night trips catching on mostly bait. Capt Ryan Namowitz has made some stops on wrecks when the blues bite has been slow and put a beating on the Sea Bass, Keeper Cod, and a few really nice fluke to make the day.

OFFSHORE AND INSHORE TUNA SCHEDULE IS UP! SOME GOOD FALL FISHING AHEAD!

Voyager Sportfishing Fishing Report, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, 7-20-10

    July 19, 2010

Our TILEFISH trip on July 11 was very good. The fish ranged in size from 3 to 35 pounds with most being in the 5 to 10 pound range. Rick Englesbe from Lakewood, NJ won the pool with a 35 pound TILEFISH. Mel Deak from Perth Amboy, NJ had an excellent trip catching a bunch of fish, two of which were in the low 30 pound range.

Due to popular demand, we are ADDING another 2-DAY TILEFISH trip to the schedule for SUNDAY NIGHT AUGUST 15 at 10:00 PM and returning Tuesday evening between 7-8 PM. Before you book, please note that if the weather forecast is poor for this trip, we reserve the right to change this into a 1-day trip and refund the difference (that means we can shorten the trip on either end). The fare for the trip is $450 and spots can be held by e-mailing us. We will hold the spots for 5 days while people send in their payment. If you are already booked on a 1-day trip in August and want to change to the 2-day, we can switch you over and apply your fare to the 2-day trip.

FLUKE fishing picked up a bit over the weekend. We had good short action with some nice keepers mixed in. Bill Werking from Toms River, NJ made both trips Saturday and ended up with a limit catch of FLUKE up to 3 1/4 pounds. Walt Steward from Toms River, NJ had three keepers and won the pool with a 4 1/2 pound Fluke. We have been fishing the local reefs and other rough bottom spots so we have also been seeing some SEA BASS mixed in.

Just a reminder... FRIDAY JULY 23 is BERKLEY GULP DAY. Berkley is sponsoring both half-day Fluke trips and anglers will have the opportunity to meet Berkley pro staff and a limited supply of demo equipment will be available during the trip. Door Prizes will be awarded and all anglers will receive free goodies. These are OPEN BOAT trips and reservations are NOT required.

We had nice weather for our Saturday night LING trip and the fishing was good. Most anglers had from 8 to 15 fish with high hook being around 20. Most of the LING were jumbos between 2 ˝ to 3 1/2 pounds. We also had a couple of keeper COD mixed in. The VOYAGER sails every Saturday night for LING from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
