The Fishermen Fishing Report, Altantic Highlands, NJ, 7-20-10

    Atlantic Highlands Fishing Reports

    Fishermen Fishing report 7/19/10
Started out the morning with a 2 knot drift in the channel. Thought the last hour of the outgoing would be perfect timing....Wrong! Got the hell outta there Fast!!!

Made a couple drifts on the beach, couple shorts, no keepers.
Took some time to get the incoming and a drift, the bite did turn on with more shorts than keepers today. The fish that did make the cooler were all beauties though.
Pool fish went 5 3/4 pounds with several 3 to 4 pounders in the mix.

Once again, the 17 to 17 3/4 inch fish going back are fat and a disgrace to the powers that be for allowing such BS!!
A lousy inch and every one would have full boats of customers!

Amazing how we now have the weathermen giving us health advisories.....Did it not get hot in July and August for the past 100 years of reporting weather???

Maybe they should have a clause that says "You''ll survive if you go fishing on the ocean" at least there's a breeze!!!!
Charters this week: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Fishermen Fishing report/New pool leader! 7/18/10

Fished the ocean all day today....caught the last of the outgoing and put some keepers in the boat.
Took awhile to get enough current to give us a drift after the change, with the wind against. When things got right the bite was on!

Very good action on shorts and keepers. Eric the Mortgage man kept up his good luck streak putting 4 nice fish in the box. Rocco Farina also had 4.

Tom Krako took the lead in the Big Fish pool with a very nice 8 pounder on the next to last drift. Glad to finally see some fish in the ocean!!

Charters for this week: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday Mornings.
Bluefishing in the Afternoons: Saturday and Sunday only 3:30pm till 9:30pm.

    Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report

    July 20, 2010

    Fresh bunker now in stock.

    July 19, 2010

    4:00 PM

Fresh Bunker will be here in a couple hours. Go hook up with those brownies! Greg and crew released a good one last night.

Sorry for the following late posting...

Headed out to the Lindy on Monday, July 12th with good friend Bob Percopo on his 33' HydraSport "No Limits". Trolled for several hours with no luck when the rods started going off, one, two, three, four five rods at the same time. Fish hit rigged bally, spreader bars and cedar plugs. With only the two of us on board we wanted to ensure we did not get greedy and concentrated on each getting one fish on board. Despite some tangles as we had no one to clear rods, 40 minutes later and totally exhausted, we had two yellow fin on board, a 67 and an 80 pounder. The other fish either spit hooks or broke off but it was wild pandemonium for 40 minutes bringing two nice yellow fin on board.

There are fluke in the bay, inlet and off of the surf. Best way to get them is a Spro bucktail with a Spro Baby or Mini Bucktail as a teaser! There are still a lot of shorts but the biggest chartreuse Gulp! like the 6" Jigging Grub and Belly Strips are producing nice sized dinner table flatties. The Kingfishing from the surf has been inconsistent. The bite comes and goes with the water temperature. One day it's on. Then the south wind blows, up wells the colder ocean water from the deep and shuts the bite off. We will try our best to keep you posted the "striped goats." Doggies and skates are also off of the beach so enter the Garbage Fish Tourny (two more weeks to go) and get bent off the beach. There have been a number of browns and big rays caught too so make sure your sand spike is solid before looking into the cooler.

A few local spear fishermen have reported fluke, tog, triggers and still a couple stripers swimming around the BL Inlet's South Jetty.

"Little Man" John of Ship Bottom came in mid-day to re-up with more bunker and reported a half dozen Jimmies (nice sized keeper blue claw crabs). He also said that an angler next to him caught a couple snapper blues.

As far as fishing further off... The Canyons have been good with mahi, yellowfin in the 40-60+ pound range and marlin. Closer inshore there are being caught. Review the regulations before targeting, NMFS News: https://hmspermits.noaa.gov/news.asp

As good as our bay fluke fishing has been for the past month, I never would have guessed it would get better. But it did and the fish not only seem to be ignoring the unseasonably hot weather, they seem to be loving it.

Wednesday, aboard the "Rambunctious" from Yardley, PA were Rich Smith with his sons Sam and Lyle for a relaxing day on the water that turned into absolute fluke mayhem by the end of the morning. The first part of the trip saw the same kind of steady pick of fish that we've seen for the past few weeks with 25-30 fish coming to net in the first few hours. Not bad, right? Then the fish turned on and started hitting our baits the minute they reached bottom. Fish were coming over the side two or three at a time, bucktail/teaser rigs were producing double headers, action was non-stop. By the time we headed back to the dock, we conservatively guessed that 150-160 fish had been landed and at least that many hooked and dropped. Unbelievable fishing, and the big bags of filets will make for some excellent dining to come.

Yesterday, aboard the "Rambunctious" were Vince Barba and friend Deena for a quick outing, and while it wasn't quite as frantic we certainly had a better than average four hours with 60-70 fish, including four fat keepers, coming over the side before we headed in early to avoid the heat. A huge stargazer that decided to sample Deena's bait added to the fun.

As noted last week, I've switched over to using true ultralight tackle for this fishing and it's a blast catching these fish on small jigs and our custom teasers. It's hard to say how long this will last, but hopefully we'll get a few more weeks out of it. I've still got a couple of open dates before the end of the month, so now's the time if you want to get in on this.

And the beat goes on. Fluking the bay continues super hot. This week trips boated 15 to 20 fish a hour. During a recent outing with the Chin party, six-year old Tyler boated 14 fluke! Great job by a future fisherman. Even though the fishing is great this picture shows what it is all about, family time together and having fun. Good times.

Reel Fantasea Fishing Report, Barnegat, NJ, 7-20-10

    Barnegat Ridges
    MONDAY, 19 JULY 2010
This week we changed things up a bit heading out to the Barnegat Ridges for some high speed trolling in hopes to find some pelagics but also to escape the persistent heat wave inshore. The results were disappointing at best as we only managed small 1-2lbs and some frigate mackerel for our efforts, look for this to change anyday !

Wreck fishing continue to offer great action with seabass, blackfish and even a few ling making the mix while the backbay and inlet continues to offer schoolie stripers, blues and loads of short fluke, [ patience is definitely in order to put a few in the box] We have been cast netting live baits before each trip [ mullet and bunker ] in hopes to coaxe only the largest of "flat fish" , well be careful what you ask for. Large leviathans in the way of huge cow nosed rays have been testing both tackle and anglers on the live baits - they have been straightening and breaking hooks right off our 50lbs braid [ these fish are powerful !] !

Just a reminder for those interested in joining us on Face Book @ Reel Fantasea Charters and view some of our video and pics of the week . I would also like to mention that anyone chartering with us does not require any New Jersey fishing registry [ although its not a bad idea to register] as we cover angler onboard.

I have a couple of spots open for this Friday Open boat for those looking to mix it up in the backbay and inlet area or possible wreck/backba/inlet combo trip . In this heat it would seem crazy to even think about our Fantastic Fall fishing but we are booking up fast this season for those interested in some of the best action anywhere with stripers, blues, seabass and blackfish.

Don't miss ,out reserve your date today !

    Best Regards

    Captain Steve Purul

Fisherman Fred's Fishing Report, Hamilton, NJ, 7-21-10

    New Jersey Fishing Reports

    Saltwater Report:
    7/20/2010
Fluke on Gulp during the day and sharks at night on bunker from LBI and IBSP. Didn't hear much about kingfish but then again it has been hit or miss.

    Bay / Jetty Report:

    7/20/2010
Barnegat Inlet off the rocks and drifting in a boat is producing some nice catches of fluke. Barnegat Bay, Manasquan Inlet, the Manasquan River, Little Egg Inlet had reports of a few keepers being reported. It is a little harder now as they have gotten a bit lazy because of water temps. Crabbing has gotten much better now.

    Fresh Water Report:

    7/20/2010
Some fished before and after the showers. Did hear of a few guys picking up some bass and pickeral but that's about it.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Seaside Park, 7-21-10

    More of the same
    Tuesday, July, 20, 2010 at 4:52AM
Fluke in the surf is even better! Justr ask Dannt prickett who weighed in a nearly 8 lb fluke yesterday. Gulp in various forms and colors is the bait to have. The night shift guys are still having fun with the sharks. Our shark identification chart has been getting a lot of attention lately.
The evil weatherman consulted his magic eightball and has this for today - Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 80s. West winds 5 to 10 mph...becoming southwest 10 to 15 mph this afternoon. Yeah, whatever.
Mike did not cause any trouble at the store yesterday - he had the day off!

Jingles Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Beach Haven 7-21-10

    Tues July 20th
Ocean is 69 this am with and air temp of 77 here on the beach. Wind is SW about 12. Our rain yesterday was about 3 min of huge raindrops!
People that are here this week know how to fish the surf in the summer. They are casting and dragging and catching. Lots of fluke mostly shorts but catching. A couple of short stripers yesterday at low tide and while one was being beached they watched a 4 foot brown shark cruising at the end of the jetty.
Boaters will be trying to hit both tides mid week for fluke hitting that high tide for their 3 or 4 keepers in the bay.
Offshore forecast still not great but maybe a change by Thursday.

Absecon Bay Sportsman Center Fishing Report 7-21-10

    Capt. Dave's Latest Fishing Report
July 20, 2010, Another heat wave is upon us, but the fishing is great so get out on the water. It's a little cooler and you won't notice it when you are pulling in the fish. The weekend was some good fishing and there has definitely been an increase in the number of keepers and some really nice ones as well. The Absecon Saltwater Sportsman Club had their annual open tournament and even though there weren't on overload of boats in the tournament they did have some good catches including the winning catch of Scott Newhall and his dad who put together a 3 fish weigh in that just missed breaking the 20 pound mark. The lunker went 8,8 pounds and ate a live spot on some unnamed wreck in the ocean. It is definitely time to get out off the beach and the current heat wave should get the fishing cooking even more.
