Saltwater Report:
9/6/2010
We are OPEN today from 8AM to 12 (Noon)
Update 8:15AM
Bluefish from IBSP and Seaside this morning. Just get out and fish!!!
Looks like bluefish was the word of the day. The surf has laid down nicely and the blues are here. They are being caught on mullet, peanut bunker, bunker, or metals or just about anything you throw at them from the LBI, IBSP, and Seaside surf. You didn't have to find birds working either all you need to have is some bait in the water. Also had a few reports of some stripers being caught. Ortley Beach had a bunch caught in the morning on sandeels or sandeel type lures. Looks like it could be a good fall run. But these stripers are resident stripers and are here all year. Only thing I heard from the boaters is some found croakers in about 70 feet of water. The reef sites didn't produce any fluke yesterday. Lets hope today is better because today is the last day of fluke season.
9/5/2010
Update 9:10AM
Bluefish on mullet from IBSP this morning. Look for birds working.
Surf has laid down is good to go. Had reports of bluefish being caught from LBI and IBSP surf. They are hitting metals, mullet, peanut bunker, or bunker chunks. Didn't hear from any boaters so I don't think any went outside. Don't forget only 2 DAYS OF FLUKE SEASON LEFT. It closes Monday Sept 6 at 11:59PM.
Bay / Jetty Report:
9/6/2010
Well today is it for the fluke season. If you want to keep them you better get out today. Tha bays have cleared up and some did have short fluke but the inlet area or outside is where you should fish today. Most that fished the bays fished for kingfish, blowfish, porgies, and spot. You need to use clam chum and the fish will come. Great Bay around the clam stakes is your best bet. Barnegat Bay around the BI and BB buoy is your best bets. People crabbing are doing ok but it slow a bit due to the storm. It should come back very soon.
9/5/2010
Don't forget only 2 DAYS OF FLUKE SEASON LEFT. It closes Monday Sept 6 at 11:59PM.
Fresh Water Report:
9/6/2010
It was another great day to be fishing and the reports came rolling in from all over. Just to name a few Town Center, Miry Run, Lake Mercer, Lake Assunpink, Rosedale, and plenty of others as well. Not all reports were good but most reported bass, pickeral, a few crappie, sunnies, catfish and even a few carp were caught. Today is the last hoorah before everyone goes back to work and the kids go back to school, so just get out and fish.
9/5/2010
Lots of people fishing yesterday. Had reports from all over so I can't list all the places where the fish were caught. Had reports that bass, pickeral, sunnies, catfish and a few carp were caught.

Happy Labor Day & Final Day of Fluke Too!
Monday, September, 6, 2010 at 5:05AM
This is it for the Fluke Season and the weather looks good so get em or forget em. Lots of Bluefish reports yesterday from all sorts of different areas and tides. Good results on Bunker, fresh Peanut Bunker, Mullet, Plugs, Metals, Oh heck, they are bluefish and they were hitting anything you offered. Just remember, you do not need to have birds working to find Blues, you just need to have stuff in the water.
The evil weather idiots must still be exhausted from over reporting exagerated forecasts for non-event Earl because they are letting us have a nice holiday forecast - Sunny. Highs in the upper 70s. Northeast winds around 5 mph...becoming southeast this afternoon. Now, that is a pretty day!
A thought crossed Mikes mind yesterday. It was a lonely journey but mecifully short!

And now, back to the Holiday weekend!
Sorry about the lack of report yesterday. The web hosting company did a security upgrade and we had to sort out a new set of hurdles.
Now that the overly hyped Earl, the hurricane that wasnt, has departed, we can get back to the important things like fishing. Blues on bunker, mullet, fresh Peanut Bunker or metal was the topic of the day yesterday. You only have until tomorrow to get your fill of Fluke for the season so get out and get em before it is over for the year. Expect 2-3 foot waves in the surf zone with a moderate risk of undertow. The Clam boats should be able to get out tomorrow but we have plenty of salted clams until then. We have loads of Fresh Peanut Bunker.
The weather idiots are all worn out from all the wrong forecasts they made about Earl so we get a simple forecast for today - Sunny. Highs in the upper 70s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
Maybe Mikes whole purpose in life is to serve as a warning to others?

Jingles Bait and Tackle fishing report, Beach Haven 9-06-10
Mon Sept 6th
Happy Labor Day
A lot of people call this the last day of summer and what a summer it was!
Record setting heat with all the 90 degree days that we had and it had to be a record setting fluke year in the bay with all the shorts, throw backs, only a half inch to short and toss it backs that were caught.
More people learned about the gulp and could not believe how well it works.
This summer was also the year of blue claw crabs. The bridge area had great numbers of crabs and big ones too for most of the summer and now they are moving into the Middle Grounds.
We want to Thank You for a great summer and we will continue to be here for the fall fishery with bait, rigs and lures that you need to carry you into the next season of fishing.
Nice morning with no wind. Air temp is 64 and the ocean is 74 with a slight breeze from the NNW.
Last day to keep fluke and hopefully the fluke catching is better today than yesterday. Yesterday was a mixed bag in the ocean with not many keeper fluke.
Sun Sept 5th
Fluke fishing in the bay has slowed down the last few weeks. For those of you trying tomorrow there have been a few near the fish factory. Last year this time the weakfish were knee deep in front of Morrisons ---this year we have lots of crabs in the Middle Grounds. Today Peter Rabbit was out and had 91 crabs. Seems the ones that were at the bridge have moved on down. A few blowfish at the dock today.
Beach fishing is still strong for those trying for fluke. The first weekend in Holgate had plenty but the keeper ratio again was poor. One keeper was a 30 in striper that John caught on his gulp/spearing combo that he was using for the throw back fluke he caught( about 15 today)

I did see a nice phone picture of a bass over 20 pounds that was taken in the surf last night on frozen bunker around 7 pm. Lots of stargazers in the surf today.
Boaters had a mixed bag with bluefish, croakers, sea bass and fluke today. Some nice seabass and the fluke were mostly throw it backs.
A cool morning with a lite WSW wind an an ocean temp of 74. The seas are settling back down and it is time to go hunting or I'm sorry it is fishing. I guess that is hunting for fish after the last couple of non boating days. I am sure the inlet will still be a little nasty.
May all the fish that bite on your hooks for the next two days be keepers.
Have a great day!

Ricks Bait and Tackle Fishing Report 9-06-10
Good-Bye Earl!!!!!
Sunday, 05 September 2010 09:26
SEE YA EARL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi folks,
Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend and thank goodness
we were spared the wrath of Mother Nature. Fishing activity was slow due to the threat of the storm and rough water after the storm. Hopefully one result will be an increase in the bottom fishing due to the water being churned up. We were seeing an upturn in the bottom fishing prior to the storm and hopeful things will improve even more. Tog season is closed until the end of the month but there should be plenty of flounder and sea bass action to come. It should not be long before the water starts to cool and the bigger fish should start turning on. Now is the time to start gearing
up for the upcoming striper season. Be sure your equipment is ready to due battle with fiesty linesiders. Bucktails, worms, Stretch 25’s, and plenty of bait rigs need to be in the tackle box ready to go to work. Back Bay action is still producing flounder, croaker, spot and blowfish. There are still more throwbacks than keepers, but some nice fish are being taken. Captain Chuck of First Light Charters fly fished at the outer wall and caught several stripers on dark colored bunker imitation flies. On another trip he took out Rich Seagraves of Milford DE. and scored on keeper sea bass and large flounder. First Light Charters took Bruce McClay of Havertown Pa. and company out on an evening trip in Indian River Inlet; the group caught a boatload of healthy blues and shad and had not stop action all night. Michael Silar of Georgetown took his boat “Screamn” to Site #10 and scored a 7 pound 12 ounce citation flattie. Offshore action has been spotty other than dolphin action. Capt. Cory Waddington was at the helm of “Another Bill” trolling the 30 line near the Tea Cup when Ron Campbell took his 49-pound wahoo. A few days later Capt. Dan Waddington took the helm of the same boat and Jay Tucci scored a 20.5-pound wahoo.
In other news from Bill’s Sport Shop on RT #1 in Lewes Capt. Bill tell us the” Wharf Restaurant” in Lewes is the location this year for the striper tournament Friday night weekly buffet. The 2010 Striper Tournament will be held from Oct. 15th till Dec. 10th. First place this year will be $3000.00, 2nd place, $2000.00 and third, $1000.00. More information will follow. The “Billfisher” caught 26 white marlin outside the Baltimore Canyon in 1000 fathoms. Christina Butchko, age 10, of Annandale, Va. caught an 18” largemouth bass in Silver Lake in Rehoboth on nightcrawlers. Jim Jones was fishing at the 400 Fathom Line at the Poormans’ Canyon and caught a 70 lb white and a gaffer dolphin. On Saturday, Jeremy Woolsey & Taylor Evans with grand pop Tom Bailor once again caught their two bushel limit of nice big fat crabs near Gull Point using a trot line & chicken necks. Captain Chris Thurmon of “Skipjack Charters” out of Lewes Harbor Marina reported an overnighter in the canyon where the crew landed 6 yellowfin tuna, a bunch of dolphin and a wahoo. Capt Oak Thompson reported: “He had a good day fishing IRI on Saturday. Phil O’Connor and I caught and released 40 plus flounder, the only keeper was my 23 “4.4 lb caught on minnows and cut spot. We also had bluefish, croaker, sea bass, spot and blowfish on clams and fish bite bloods”. Jonathon Thompson, Mike Thompson, Jeff and Matt Sherwood and crew went on a charter out of IRI to the Baltimore Canyon where they released 4 whites, landed 2 tuna and 10 gaffer dolphin. It was a good day inshore and offshore. Chris Wagner, bartender at Fish On! landed a 109 lb YFT, after it circled the boat 12 times while trolling between the Chicken Bone and the Hambone. Also while trolling, he found a bucket floating and picked up several gaffer and peanut dolphin. Heard from Capt. Steve Peterson, “Pandamonium" Charters” who had a great few days of fishing out in the deep. They took Frank Perna and crew out to the Portman’s Canyon and ended up with a 63 and 68 lb yellowfin. They also caught and got to the boat a 425 lb blue marlin, which was released. On another trip, they took Jamie Greer and crew back to the same area and went 3 for 3 on the white marlin which were released and 6 gaffer dolphin that made a few great meals. Flyabout Smith of the Saltwater Fly Anglers of De. fished the Canal and had 12 stripers between 16” & 20”. They were caught on a #2 Kevins Killer, olive body and white tail. He had one small flounder about 15” then he moved out to the Ice Breakers and caught a couple of small sea bass and another small flounder.
At Rattle & Reel Sports Center on Long Neck Rd., Eric tells us there are still lots of throwback flounder being taken in the Back Bays. Minnow/squid combo or GULP! seem to be the ticket. Stripers are being taken in Indian River Inlet at night. Dolphin are anywhere from the Lightship to the Tea Cup.
Capt. Burt at Hookem’ & Cookem’ Bait & Tackle in North Shore Marina reports inshore ocean action holds a mix of sea bass, flounder, blues, croaker, and triggerfish. Before the blow the headboats were providing customers with a mix of all. Bluefish and stripers are being taken in Indian River. A 744 Lb. blue marlin was taken near the Poorman’s Canyon. Capt. Bert said things have been slow for surfishermen.
Joe Morris at Lewes Harbour Marina said the white marlin bite offshore has probably been the best that many anglers will ever experience. Large packs of whites roamed the Washington Canyon, balling and cutting baitfish, and boaters that encountered the feeding billfish were treated to some wild action. Those who went Monday saw spectacular fishing, with a small fleet in 700 fathoms of the Washington releasing more than 300 white marlin. The crew of the Billfisher had a record setting total of 57 releases that day. The previous record was 27 by the Cerveza in September 2007, and anglers on that boat eclipsed their own mark Monday by releasing 33. Monday’s fishing was the hottest, but marlin were caught all week leading up to the passage of Hurricane Earl on Friday. Whites were reported from the deep of the Washington, inshore of Poor Man’s, and in the Baltimore. Some days, marlin were more difficult to entice because they were keyed in on small bait. Crews that were able to locate fish away from the crowds of boats usually had better results. Traditionally, September has been the choice month for marlin fishing, and it was encouraging to see such numbers of billfish in August. It will be interesting to see what develops in the next few weeks. Inshore tuna trolling showed promise this week as well. Decent numbers of yellowfins came from twenty-fathom structure of the Hot Dog and Hambone. Skipjack returned from the Hambone with 5 yellowfins to 42 pounds, 3 dolphin to 21 pounds and a 35-pound wahoo. On Monday, guys on the Grizzly trolled the Dog for 4 yellowfins and David Wilson’s 52.5-pound wahoo. On Tuesday, Captain Jeff’s anglers aboard Ocean City Girl put 14 yellowfins in the box at the Hot Dog. Jeff said he pulled a mix of ballyhoo and plastics, and it was tough to keep hoards of hungry false albacore away from baits. Inshore bottom bouncers had a mix of sea bass, croakers, snapper blues and a few keeper flounder on the Old Grounds and at Site 11. Croakers remained elusive in Delaware Bay. Boaters concentrating on the rubble of reef sites 4, 6, 7 and 8 found some legal flounder prior to windy weather at the end of the week. Mara Danoff decked a 7.58-pound doormat Wednesday while drifting a reef on the Top Fin. After Earl went by, Captain Brent on the Katy Did made it out for a half-day trip Saturday morning and managed a bucketful of 28 blowfish while anchored at the Star Site. Puffers have been plentiful on reef junk, and the eating quality of the odd looking “sea squab” is excellent.
Until next week, have fun and be safe!

Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report, Ship Bottom, NJ, 9-06-10
September 5, 2010
Received: Sep 5, 2010 2:48 PM Subject: Barnegat Bay Fishing Report
The 2010 fluke fishing season is just about history and it was quite a year with well over 3,000 flatties coming over the side during the past seven or eight weeks. But the spectacular back bay fishing we've had since mid June seems to be finally coming to an end and this week's storm seems to have been the final blow.
Tuesday, I had vacationing Steve Rosenthal out with his buddy Jerry, and we had our first slow fluke fishing day since late June. Landing only a dozen or so fluke all morning.
Wednesday morning, things seemed to be turning around when Cam and Vincent Rispoli were back and landed 40-50 fluke with a couple of fat flatties in the box. Vincent again did the bulk of the work in bringing fish to the net.
Today, we got out on our first trip since the storm, and it seemed like the fish must have made a mass exodus from the bay since the word slow doesn't come close to describing the action. With the season closing tomorrow, I may try one more time but I'm guessing that it's done inside.
Hopefully the storm will have had a positive effect on some of the other fisheries that have been quiet so far. Bonita, false albacore and spanish macks should be making an appearance along the beach. Bluefish should be around to put bends in rods most other days. We'll probably be starting to do some serious striper hunting by early October this year if the weather cooperates.

Sea Devil Charters Fishing Report, Pleasant Beach, NJ, 9-06-10
Sunday, September 5: Captain Bob steamed us out of the inlet and set sail due east. Under perfect conditions, we headed out to the Shark River Reef, 18 miles out, where we have been landing some super Sea Devil Blues! We reached our spot, anchored up and went to work. Before we had the anchor in, Daly had the first of the many Killer Sea Devil Blues in the boat! Zotti was in, Paul was in, Siraj & Denise were in, and the Hogans were in, as were Mark Buskirk, Roger, Dylan and many others around the boat. Up in the bow, the “Jig Master” was putting on a show along with Chris Groeger and Kevin Cook. Eddie constantly handed his pole off to the kids....Chris Groeger was slamming the blues and also passing them off to the young people.....The " Jig Master " handed off so many fish to the kids, they called it quits. First time blue fishing, the MacKinnon boys: John, Shane & Bryce each landed some killer blue fish; we had some really excited anglers aboard today! Some couldn't hold it back, they were so excited! In the stern, it was a total turn of tails from last week. The Hogan girls were giving dad, Jim, a fishing lesson. Dad was hot hook last week, but the gals turned the tables today. “V” landed some slamming blues, all by herself. Trish was one red hot fishing machine! Meanwhile Paul Geelan was in and out a lot... Scott Nicholas and Stephanie Gubies, Easton, PA were killing them! Mark Buskirk, Bethlehem, PA, landed 13 killer sea devil blues! (Zotti kept breaking off !-He must have missed last week’s tip about fresh mono on the reel! We had a HUGE SEA TURTLE swim by, see what was going on! Those are so cool to see !!!) Cindy, coaching from the sun deck, noticed some trailers following up some hooked blues in the crystal clear water. Daly tossed a surface plug to what we thought were blues. Fish were slamming the plug. After the fifth cast, he had a hook up. They weren't blues. They were Skip Jack Tuna. Daly nailed it. Then we had a school of false albacore move into the slick, mixed in with the blues... As we were still jigging blues, several anglers switched to small bait, and landed some, including Daly, Geelan and Zotti nice albies! Noah Hussainsiraj was the sole youngster to land a false albacore and Trish Hogan was the only female to deck one of these pretty fish. Kevin Cook, Hamburg, NJ caught a 14 LB. Blue, to win the pool! Trish Hogan was high hook today, limiting out, Mark Buskirk was runner up with 13. Big Eddie hooked the most fish and handed them off. Daly caught the most varieties: Blue, Skippy, and Albie. The Man, the Myth, the Legend, Zotti lost the most fish! Uncle Ryan C, Pompton Plains, came in a close second. We had a really nice group of folks fishing with us today: A Happy Birthday goes out to Cliff Paul, Media, PA, fishing with son Ryan. Team Sperco was running a little lite today, most were training for the 2010 TEAM SPERCO invitational tuna tourney ... So only Eddie "THE JIG MASTER " Mackin , and the ever reliable anchor Daly , were on board . On the way out, being there were only 2 Team Sperco members on board: Eddie and Daly flipped a coin to see who was going to fish where and pick a fantasy fishing team. Daly won the flip and called the stern, giving Eddie the bow and first pick for his team. Eddie picked Chris Groeger, Daly picked Paul Geelan. The guys went down the roster. Daly ended up with the last pick and looked up, to see Zotti as the last guy! Bad break Daly!
The GREAT CREW working the boat today were Mike I , Mike II , and Dead Eye Mackin! These guys did what it takes to get triple digits of killer blues in the boat today! What are you waiting for? Come on down! Plan to arrive at the dock by 7 a.m.

Papas Angels Charters, Keyport 9-6
We had the John Kugal party out this last day of fluke season, with John were friends Jack, Joe and Raymond . Our first drop off of the tip of Sandy Hook Joe hooked into and boated the first and only keeper fluke on this trip the fish was 19 inches long. Joe was using bucktails, several drops during the rest of this trip yielded short fluke and blue fish, Capt Joe.
I am beginning open boat trips fishing for seabass and porgy's on a daily basis from 6:30am until 3pm. Any interested parties can reach me at 973-277-3096. We will fish the Sandy Hook reef as well as the Shrewsbury rocks.

Scotts Bait and Tackle, Mystic Island,Fishing report 9-07-10
onday, September 6, 2010 /\/\/\ 1:42pm
Another tough day putting any kind of fish in the fish box. Mid morning, a couple of anglers were able to find some Croakers in the area of the LE reef. One angler was bragging on the VHF radio that he found a keeper fluke; no one else was attempting to show him up.
Best activity in the Great Bay was the blowfish on the Mystic Island side of the fish factory just to the East side of the clam stakes. Clam chum and clams is the ticket to steady catching activity.
Graveling Point remains the hot area for the Spot fishermen.
Huge bluefish are working the coast. It's a matter of locating pods of bunker and the blues are working them hard. One school of these slammer blues worked consistently just offshore of the Little Egg Reef site. Bird play can also point the way.
Email from Joe Z. in Trenton:
Message:
REGS WIN, I HAVE NOT fished for fluke in 2 weeks, total keepers: month of August = 0, July 4-5 fish. I am a Trenton teacher, fishing at least once a week all summer on a Belmar party boat at a cost of about $100 daily. Last trip, bucktailing and "dragging" I threw back 7 fluke, one at 17 and 7/8 inches- I think that's when I saw the light. I'm a sucker. We rode 90 minutes up for a boat total of about 1/2 dozen fish. Only saving grace was the few sea bass caught.
Regulations, biomass- whatever, this year was the WORST.
AND HOW ARE THE KIDS EVER GONNA GET INTERESTED IN THIS JERSEY TRADITION? How about 2 slot fish for the 12 and under? How about throwing us a bone? It's destructive and - RIDICULOUS. If the regs WERE beneficial, I would think by NOW there would be more fish to harvest, it's been a decade or so!!!! Actually, regs are a bit bass-ackwards because we all know it's the big females that should be released.
Now with a license to buy, my bet I$ - here comes the BONE.
There's one born every minute, right? JZ
Joe, you aren't the only one to feel this way! There are many anglers that feel that a smaller bag limit with smaller fish would be more beneficial over time than the current regulations.
