New Jersey Bait and tackle reports 7-12

    Saltwater Report:

    7/11/2010
As far as stripers go it looks like the big ones have moved on. There has been some pretty good resident striper action in the pocket on IBSP. Other wise fluke and sharks at night is about it. Of course there are not many reports as there isn't many people fishing. Kind of funny how no one fishes once the stripers move on. There is so much more too fishing then that. Few kingfish off the LBI surf. Fish bloodworms, Gulp bloodworms, or FishBites for them. Sea bass has been pretty good with a lot of people getting their limit now.

    Bay / Jetty Report:
    7/11/2010
Barnegat Inlet is producing some good fluke action. Barnegat Bay is producing catches of fluke, small blues, snappers, and a few blowfish now. Great Bay and Tuckerton Bay is producing catches of fluke, small blues, and snappers. I heard a rumor that there were a few weakfish caught but I wasn't told were. If this is ture that is great because I have not heard a word out of the weakfish crowd this year. That is how bad it is for them.

    Fresh Water Report:

    7/11/2010
The morning showers slowed people down some but the afternoon turned out to be nice. Didn't get many reports but some bass were reported being caught from Miry Run and that is it.

Grumpy's Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Seaside Park, 7-12-10

    A bit nicer today!
    Sunday, July, 11, 2010 at 3:44AM
We had two or three hours of rainy weather yesterday which kept a load of people home which in turn keeps the fishing report pretty sketchy. We had a few nice Fluke weighed in from the beach again yesterday. Bucktail Jigs and Gulp with a teaser is working out pretty good. I heard a few more stories about fun with sharks from the overnight boys that came in for more wire and bunker to try it again last night.
The evil weatherman has this for the guess of the day - Partly sunny with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog this morning. Highs in the mid 80s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent. That slight chance of rain he is talking about must be that misty almost drizzle that I had coming in this morning that you didnt quite need the wipers for.
A customer said that Mike was a great asset. I told him he was off by two letters!

A good customer of Grumpys had a custom fishing rod go missing at Casino Pier the other day. It is an 8′6″ alstar dark green underwraps with black overwrap coupled with a Penn 650. It has slim on the blank also. If you should find it or see it please contact me no questions asked. It has a lot of sentimental value.......Mike

Jingles Bait and Tackle Fishing Report, Beach Haven 7-12-10

Jingles Biat and Tackle Fishing Report.

    Sun July 11th

Busy morning but the ocean was not friendly turning boats around to fish the bay. Lot of fluke and lots of throw backs.

Congratultions to all the winners that were fishing in BHMTC and in SBYC tournaments yesterday. I heard you had to go to 28 mile wreck to catch a bluefish.

The beach is giving up more sharks with the warmer water temps. So many people are telling me they are catching bull sharks. I certainly hope not-- thats scary!

Bull sharks are similar to the Sand Bar Sharks but they have a shorter wider snout. It has a large first dorsal fin starting in the middle of its pectoral fin and a much smaller second dorsal. Most Bull Sharks are 6- 8 foot and are over a hundred pounds. If you turn the shark over their snout is very round and remind me of a dinner plate.
Brown sharks ( sand bar shark ) are the most common large shark in our waters this time of the year. Mostly they are inshore and around beaches. They are a grayish brown with sides a lighter color. Their bellies are a dirty white. Brown sharks fins are slightly darker than their body.
Sand bar sharks also have a distinct ridge between their dorsal fins. ( bull sharks do not) Dorsal fins on the brown shark (sandbar) and the pectoral fins are EVEN.
** ON THE BULL SHARK THE DORSAL AND THE PECTORAL FIN START IN THE MIDDLE OF EACH OTHER!!

Scotts Bait and Tackle, Mystic Island,Fishing Report 7-12-10

    Scott's Daily Fishing Report

    Sunday, July 11, 2010 /\/\/\ 1:20pm
The store was hopping all day today. Anglers were going to make up for the rain day yesterday. We sent many folks to the 126 marker area as it has been consistent to produce a keeper now and then. Other anglers with smaller boats are working between the islands of the fish factory and finding flatties up in the cuts. No new news from ocean going fluke anglers.

Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report, Ship Bottom, NJ, 7-12-10

    Fisherman's Headquarters Fishing Report

    July 11, 2010

More clams, bloodworms and fresh bunker were delivered this afternoon.

    2:00 PM

    Offshore

Offshore fishing has been HOT! There have been a number of bigeyes caught and a load of yellowfin. The Hudson was hot and also the Lindenkohl. A number of angler who have went to the edge have reported back with good things to say. Scott Simpson reported hammering up to 60-lb yellowfin on the troll at the Lindy. Thursday and Friday, Jeff Warford of Surf City was out at the Lindy. He also reported yellowfin in the 60-lb range as well as some mahi. He also reported releasing a white marlin.

Fishing from the shore (surf, inlet and bay)

There are fluke to be caught. The fluke might not be as big as one would like but they are up there. Hit the surf with Gulp! and you'll get a couple. There a still stripers around too. Look for the striped ones in the early mornings or in the evening time. With the warm water surf as of late there are also kingfish being caught. Joe P. of Ship Bottom caught two kings on live bloods yesterday before the guards came on mid-island. He reported that today there was too much grass to fish.

Fluking is still consistent in the back bay as well as the inlets and near by waters. Earlier in the week Jeff Warford hooked up a good number of flatties by the Lighthouse but only managed one keeper in the box.

Just a reminder, there is a lot of fun to be had. Sign-Up & Weigh-In for the Garbage Fish Trash Tournament here at FHQ. Get in on the action with skates, doggies and sea robins!

Received: Jul 11, 2010 9:14 AM Subject: Barnegat Bay Fishing Report

Fluke fishing in the bay continues to be outstanding in terms of the number of fish being caught. Although the 18" minimum size has meant we needed to pick through a good number of fish in order to have a few in the box by the end of the morning. With so many throwbacks, I decided to raise the fun level of catching these fish by switching over to extremely light fresh water gear that makes even a small fluke feel like a monster. Sure, we miss a few fish this way but there's something about hearing a screaming drag while fluke fishing that's downright intoxicating.

We had two trips cancel this past week due to the brutally hot weather, but still managed to get three trips in.

On Monday, Louis Pochettino came out from Gulph Mills, PA with son Dave and grandson Alex and the guys hauled 45-50 fluke over the side topped by Lou's 22 incher.

On Friday, Jim and Gene Karaman were out from Lansdale, PA with Jim's daughter Christine, and Team Karaman landed another 40+ fluke despite dealing with a wind against tide situation most of the morning.

Then yesterday, George Selph and Bob Keller were back looking to try some ocean side fluke fishing, but when lack of any drift had nothing but skates coming over the side (except for a nice fat out-of-season 8.5# tog that fell for the captain's jig), we finished up the morning back in the inlet where the guys banged almost 40 fish in a little more than an hour.

As hot as the weather was last week, bay fluking was even hotter! Hopefully we'll get a few more weeks of this in. It's way too much fun.
