    Smile A Monmouth Marathon

Began at first light... The quest for sharkin worms (blues) has taken on a new urgency after pulling a few zeros in previous tries this week. I hit the beaches from Deal to Sandy Hook and the surf was too rough to work it right. Weed and mussels made it almost impossible to fish at all.
I switched to working the Shrewsbury river ... I picked a small bass and a couple fluke but the blues didn't play.
My buddy Eric stepped to the pump and offered up his 12' carolina skiff for me to go looking. He even offered his Contender but the skiff would be ample... I started working the Navesink and the fluke were thick. People would give a lot to enjoy the slam dunk fluking I was having but I sought the blues... A couple dozen short drifts had me wore out from the flatties and only three blues better off than when I started...
I took to hoofing it again and worked the bridges... I'm gonna drift off target for a second... What is with Jersey and smokin hot chicks fishing and fishing hard. There was a milf crabbing the other day. A couple yummies late last night were banging bass and two positively mouth watering tenderloins were snagging bunkers... Great strokin there...
The Oceanic barfed up some sea robins, a short bass and finally a couple more blues...
I went beach side again . The seas came down a touch but the doggies and robins moved in.
So now that my belly is filled and I have downed a pot fo coffee its time to hit the sea bright bridge...

Deep how do you keep your blues fresh and how do you prepare them before rigging them for fishing? I work with LN2 so I have been playing with blast freezing them with liquid nitrogen as soon as possible then thawing them the night before we fish. I plan on fishing the day before the tourny this year so I don;t have to work s hard to keep them fresh but what's your method of keeping them nice and tasty?

I live just up the street from the Oceanic Bridge on Washington.

Are bunker good baits for sharks?

The bunker have been bunched up in front of the oceanic marina and victory park for a while now. When you cant find them there you will find them off the pier in Red Bank/Marine Park. It has been snag a fish per cast from the bulkhead between victory park and oceanic marina. I threw my net sunday and filled it so solid on 1 throw that I let more go then I kept.

Sunday there were marks so solid I thought about walking on them at the 20 can hole in the Navesink.

There are usually some blues working under and around the bunker.

Chunk some up and drop'em off the bridge and that should draw in what you're looking for.

    If its bluefish you seek.....

The Navesink had been loaded up with big blues but I have not seen them like they were (thick) on family cruises in the river sunday.

Good sized Bluefish (8-10 #'s) by the Gazillion have been storming bunker in the ocean off of the Sea Bright bridge and around the sewer pipe all the way down to the Red Church in Long Branch. The storm probably changed things up for a few days.

I guess circle hooks are in fashon for these bluefish because it was free (for them) piercing day. I lost dozens of 8/0 Gami's while livelining for bass in this area.

Do/did you ever shark fish between the BA and Monster Ledge? I was thinking of giving it a try and setting a drift over some of the wrecks in the area around the end of the month into the july 4th weekend.

    Hook'em up

Yesterday the beach was basically unfishable... The slug of them in the river petered out. The day before there were a few more in the river but they got picky and would only eat rotten clams...

Bunker are ok bait but in tournies I'm fussy... Bluefish and bluefish and maybe a stray mack but bluefish gets the nod for mako.
BA area has some sharks but Monsterledge is really very good a bit later in the season... Threshers first then makos... A nice drift along that ledge or from the hole to the ledge should spit out a couple...

    D
I store them right next to freezing temp salted... When it comes time for rigging I "infuse" or "juice" them with some favorite sneaky blends of secret stuff and or bunker oil which gets soaked in this helps keep them from freezing further...

Had a busy day with other projects helping others and now its time to take the tour again...

A step above most trailer parks around for sure...

I can't believe I got visually nailed by your old man and Randy at bay marine while dippin flukeses yesterday... I'm busy un hooking one and your old man called... Did you just net a fluke. Nobody even knew I was there... I was like "how the f***... Yes, yes I did..."
What sets of eyes to pick a guy out on the river in a 12' skiff and nail the species and who was doin the dippin.

Todays late tour coughed up only one more blue...

Was back on thge circuit today. Beach river and finally bay before I got on the bait. Bunkers were easy then here came the blues... Not the ones I wanted... Big monster chopper blues... Lots of em... Then I picked off a very respectable striper... Then a couple bait class blues and finally a bunch of some of the biggest sea robins I have ever seen...
