We went Rock Fishing out of Deale, Md. We took advantage of the DNR program for Afghanistan and Iraq veterans to go fishing. My wife joined me and some friends from the base. This was my first time fishing in anything other than a pond so I had no idea what to expect. After we caught our bait fish (which I had no idea you even had to do) we headed out on the choppy waters. I can’t believe what a rush it was catching those Blue Fish. Even though we only got a couple small Rockfish, I am definitely “hooked” on fishing in the bay. We all had a great time. Thank you DNR for giving us the opportunity.

Met the "Backdraft" Charter boat in Deale, MD for an all day fishing trip on the bay. After a brief stop to catch spot for live lining we headed across the bay to the Poplar Island area. Diving gulls were our signal to hook up and begin the chase.

We had swift action on rockfish and blues that may as well have been in our bait bin to begin with. After quickly boating chomper blues and throwing back the just under legal size rockfish, the live Spot were gone. The Mate quickly set up the trolling rods and we chased the birds again.

More chomper blues and a few small rockfish added to the fun. Many hookups came 2 each to the umbrella rigs and we usually had 2 to 3 rods with fish on at a time.

A slack tide changed things and we decided to head on in. It was a great day to be on the Bay, making lasting memories for me and my daughter.
