I am a little late posting this trip. Work has had me busy lately. I had the opportunity to get out Thursday, March 17th for a couple hours in the evening. The water temperatures had risen to an average of 40*F. This was about 2* warmer than my last trip out. With the warmer water temperatures I was hoping to find more signs of activity. My hopes where not entirely granted. The marks I had seen around the deep water channels where largely non-existent. The channel edges and other normal staging areas where in most cases barren. This is normal this time of year. Some days the fish are there, the next they are not. As the water warms over the course of the next month the days when they are not around become fewer and fewer. For now it’s a waiting game. Waiting for mother nature to throw some warm days and mild evening our way. Waiting for the water to warm. And my favorite part waiting for the large fish to go full swing with their spring migration up the Chesapeake Bay. I was able to catch a few fish. I boated ten or so small rockfish. They ranged in size from 18” to 21”. They where all holding in warm, 51*, water on a small piece of shallow water structure. All in all a good way to spend an evening. I will continue to track the conditions, you continue to follow along. When the time is right, come out and join Captain Mike and myself on the water. I’ll bring the camera, you bring the friends.
