Mako Mania 2008 info

Greater Point Pleasant Charter Boat Association 23rd Annual Mako-Mania Shark Tournament

The most popular shark tournament on the Manasquan River to offer a 2008 GMC Sierra for new state record mako shark.

Clarks Landing Marina on the Manasquan River in Point Pleasant, New Jersey
will be the setting June 20-22, 2008 where shark anglers from across the
tri-state area will gather to battle for a projected cash purse of $80,000
in the Greater Point Pleasant Charter Boat Association's 23rd AnnualMako-Mania Shark Tournament. Planned to coincide with the best mako shark
fishing opportunity, this event has seen some impressive catches over the
years including last year's event which saw the top six prize winning makos
weighing well over 200 pounds! Entry fee is $475 and is limited to 300
boats. As an added bonus a 2008 GMC Sierra will be awarded to the
participant who breaks the existing New Jersey shortfin mako shark record
currently set at 856 pounds. The 2007 Mako-Mania tournament sold out so
participants should sign up early.

The tournament gets underway with the Captain's Meeting on Friday, June 20
at 6:30 p.m. where entry packets will be distributed and rules will be
explained to all participants. Refreshments will be served and door prizes
will be drawn as well. For those with an eye on the weather, last minute
entries will also be accepted at that time.

Two days of fishing are provided for participants to select one day to fish
in a "captain's choice" format or participants can pay two entry fees and
fish both days. This is a mako only tournament and any mako shark must be
at least 66-inches fork length to qualify in the tournament for cash prizes.
Only one mako per boat per day is allowed. All sharks must be caught on rod
and reel and 130-pound class tackle is the maximum permitted.

Proceeds from Mako-Mania are used by the Greater Point Pleasant Charter Boat
Association to benefit all anglers. The organization has played a major
role in building and defending the artificial reefs off the coast of New
Jersey and is actively involved fisheries conservation on local, regional
and national levels.

For additional tournament information call the Mako-Mania Hotline at
732-892-3666 or visit the tournament .
