Luhrs or Henriques?

I am boat shopping and would like some feedback from fishermen in the know. I am considering a Luhrs (28-34') and Henriques 28'. I fish days mostly but do some overnights as well. I am looking for info on ride, quality, etc. The biggest Henriques that I can afford is a 28, so please don't suggest the 38'. I can get a Luhrs 34 for the same monet as a Henriques 28. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have a Luhrs 36 that I purchased new in 2000. Overall I'm pleased with the boat and would recommend Luhrs to others.

I've had a couple of issues with fiberglass work, but to Luhrs credit, they sent someone from the factory to make the necessary repairs at their expense - I'm very satisfied with their support.

That said, there are systems in the boat that could have been done better with just a little more effort/expense.

The 34 looks very similar to mine (assuming Flybridge) - I really like the steps to the bridge - yes it does cut down on the interior a bit, but it is very easy for people to get to the bridge in all conditions - and makes it very quick for me to get to the cockpit when fishing shorthanded.

The ride is ok - this is not a light boat. Mine cruises at 22kts with a top end around 27 - not overly fast, but fast enough for day to day.

I have no experience with Henriques to compare.

Open to suggestions

Those are the 2 that I have found locally that fit the bill. I'm open to suggestions and welcome all feedback. Keep in mind that I'm shopping for a used boat and don't want to go much over 100K.

In that size/price range you should have some good choices - I would look at Carolina Classic for an express...

I would take a look at the 32 blackfins on the market, two nice ones in Ocean City Md, one of them the guy is asking 80K with very low hours. The blackfin is a great ride.

Henriques 28

Fished and ran a buddy's 28 for a day. 150+ mile canyon trip out of Brielle. 2-4 ft seas.

Had Yanmar power. 22kts cruise. Quiet. Good sea boat, stable in any sea. Pounds a little in quartering sea, but it was a little rough on way out. Fishes well

Overall quality was good. Fairly spartan layout in cabin and deck. My friend had some issues with tower welds breaking. He liked the boat, moved up to a 44 Henriques.

this may offend some,i apologize in advance-this is based upon my experience in the marine buisness...

there is no comparrison between the henriques and a luhrs.a luhrs is built like total crap, the absolute cheapest materials are used, the lay ups are terrible-at one point in time, luhrs actually had a team that went to different yards to repair the gigantic "void" problem in their hulls.the ride on a luhrs is terrible, and again, the construction is worse-good example is a 340-with gas engines you're kidding, right ?? that thing will suck fuel like a jet-you will be able to use the fuel guage as a fan this shows what this mfg builds-cheap junk...the boat, luhrs, are priced cheap for a reason,it's an "entry level" big boat-it's kinda like a bic pen,it's disposable, use it a few times, realize you made a mistake buying it,and lose your ass trying to sell it...
again,i mean no offense to anyone,i realize in this new age of "political correctness",the truth isn't allowed to be told, clearly,i don't follow that...

henriqes build a nice boat, heavy lay up,good quality materials, these boats, even in this wonderful market, still hold their value, can't say the same about a luhrs...
make the smart play, buy the henriques,or take a look at that 32 blackfin, the other guy mentioned, those b'fins are nice rigs !!!
