HENRIQUES 28
A GREAT FRIEND OF MINE JUST SOLD HIS GW AND UPGRADED TO A 28 HENRIQUES WITH DIESELS AND CAN'T SPEAK HIGHLY ENOUGH ABOUT IT. SAID HE IS DRAWN TO IT EVERYNIGHT AFTER WORK JUST TO GO OUT AND RIDE..........
SAID THAT THE RIDE IS SMOOTH AND THE BOAT IS TOUGH AS NAILS. GOOD LUCK. I HAVE FISHED THE 290 LUHRS IN SOME ROUGH WEATHER WITH A FRIEND BEFORE........IT GOT US OUT THERE AND BACK....LITTLE SORE AFTER THE END OF THE DAY. NICE BOAT BY DESIGN,.....JUST WOULD NOT BE MY FIRST CHOICE THATS ALL. |

Henriques hands down. Luhrs are junk, theres a reason why they call them flexable flyers. Father owned a 44 and it was a tank. 23 knots 4-6 foot with the bow plow down . Oh ya check out the 32 blackfin called black magic. REPO SALE!!!! good price. Yachtworld, put repo in the search box.

Fprget the luhrs, they are ok but not the best for your money, that 28 henriques will ride like a 34 luhrs. The henriques has better quality craftsmenship and better thought out systems. As for ride, those are not the only boats out there, there are plenty of brands out there, blackfins are mentioned and ride well and are built tough, albemarles are good boats as are carolina classics. the 28 carolina classic is more boat then an albemarle, more weight and way better ride, plus higher gunnels which are safer if offshore or with a family. As far as engines, anything in this range needs to be diesel or your nuts, gas will bleed a hole in your wallet, and not get you nearly as far. If you have a boat this size likely you will venture offshore and you will WANT that range, plus it is nice to have to fuel up less between trips when inshore. Also, gas engines will last no where near as long as diesels so you get more for your money in the longevity of a diesel. When shopping in this size range you really cannot close your search to local area, you really need to be willing to travel within your region, there are far less boats in this size, it is not like a 22' boat where there are hundreds around, closing your decision basis on location will surely limit your options and maybe keep you from buying the right boat for yourself.
If I were buying a 28, it would be a carolina classic or henriques, and would be decided on a boat to boat basis upon what I could afford, luhrs would not make my list by a long shot, it would have to be a steal on a much bigger sized vessel to even take a look at it. If I wanted to go a little bigger in size, look into a slightly older albemarle or blackfin. There are tons of deals out there right now in that price range, was just doing some shopping around myself. |

Don't kill me guys....but if you can go a bit higher, there is a 1990 Viking 35 Convertible on ebay going for $155k or OBO. Looks amazing. Completely redone, so like new at a steal price. Everything I hear, a Viking is a solid boat.

I owned a Luhrs from 1995 to 2003 and docked next to someone who still owns a 32 open and fishes regularly from stripers in the bay to overnight canyon trips. I know they don't compare to Vikings, Henriques or even Ocean, but I think they have a place for certain people, mainly weekend fisherman who fish say 25 - 30 trips a year in good weather and spend a night now and then with the family on the boat. If you have a charter business and need to fish 75+ trips a year in all types of weather, a Luhrs is not for you. If you are a tournament fisherman and run up and down the coast and fish offshore in all types of weather, a Luhrs is not for you. Yes a lot of little things like latches, hinges and handles are gonna break and you may have some surface cracks in your gelcoat you don't like, but keep in mind you didn't pay Cabo or Viking money. Getting the right model with the right power also has a bit to do with different people's views of Luhrs. To me Luhrs is like the Budweiser of boats. Some beer drinkers hate it and wouldn't drink it if it was the last beer on earth and some think it's the best beer ever brewed.

Fished a lot on a 32 Luhrs (open). It had a pretty good ride and was stable on the troll. Fit and finish not the boat's strong point and fish box space was very limited. Overall, it was a good boat to fish on and had a decent ride.
I also have spent quite a lot of time on a 38 Henriques. Yes, it is much larger but there is no comparing the two boats. The Hen is just an amazing work of art and you can tell it is designed by fishermen for fishermen. If I had the dough, I'd look at a Henriques no question ps - all the time I've spent on both boats was mainly offshore |

Boat: Time Off.... 305 Albemarle
Home Port: Indian River
Best Catch: Ofcourse the one that got away!!

We have a 1998 305 albemarle for sale!!! Honestly I have fished on many small express boats, the lurhs 29 is a eye catcher especially the cabin. We have always said it sells to the wife... but it will pound you to death... I have been in rough stuff in the lurhs and felt safe but like I said it is a hard ride...

this shows what this mfg builds-cheap junk...the boat, luhrs, are priced cheap for a reason,it's an "entry level" big boat-it's kinda like a bic pen,it's disposable, use it a few times, realize you made a mistake buying it,and lose your ass trying to sell it...
