    Be very careful

    Jesse,

If you do get into the shark fishing from the yak please be careful. Some of the photos showing the handling of those shark is very concerning. You can be as careful as you want with big sharks, but all it takes is one slip up and you can get hurt very seriously. Big sharks are very strong creatures and can be very dangerous. Where there is one, there are more. I fish for and catch large ones from the beach regularly and am constantly reminded of how strong and unpredicatable they can be, especially when they are fighting to survive.

Murph... A good friend of mine is an accomplished surf sharker... He fishes Assatique Island. Mid summer he does well. Kimi likes to spend some time down on the beach camping and fishing... You want to go drop me a line perhaps we can work something out.

if you take the cape may afternoon ferry ride to lewes del. then you can shark the cape point in lewes del.. the water drops pretty steep in a short line from the beach. in the morning drive to the ferry and catch a ride back to cape may.

    Hey Wader,
Welcome to the board. I live and fish in Cape May along with many others on this board. We target Mako's off-shore in June here and there's a good number of Threshers and Blue sharks out there as well.

I'm not as familiar with (i.e. have little clue) about sharking from a yak or the surf. I did hear some decent brown sharks were caught in the bay here which you could hit with a yak. Only rarely have I heard of a 100lb + shark from the surf here but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. If you do want to go by kayak hopefully you can connect with someone on this board who has experience sharking the bay. It has some heavy rips and heavy traffic in certain areas that would not be good for the kayak, but other areas that are probably great if you know them. If you want to go off-shore, shoot me a PM when you have your dates nailed down. There's often a rec boat looking to pull a crew together and there's many great charters here.
