Back in June 2009, Cole Svenson and I were asked to do a shark charter aboard the Cheapshot by friends of Michael Alexander. This was not your typical charter, for Michael was diagnosed with terminally ill cancer at the age of 27. One thing Michael wanted to do was catch a shark.
Despite doctors telling him not to go, Michael and wife Lauren, along with 4 friends met us at the dock at 5am for the trip out to the grounds.
About 9am, with much praying being done from Cole and I, Mr. Shark finally cooperated and showed up in our slick. Though, just a blue, he finally took one of our baits. The rod was passed to Michael, and he fought this shark like a champ.
This charter was a special one, for his presence on the boat gave Cole and myself a different outlook on life. The word CANT was not in Michael's vocabulary. His motto, NEVER GIVE IN !
Michael passed away last week at the age of 27 to disease that has no passion. I wanted to include a location to anyone who feels like donating to help find a cure: Pediatric Cancer Care Research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, 1275 York Avenue, N.Y., N.Y. 10065.
Attached is picture of Michael on that trip.
