What continues hot is trolling the Bar for bigger Lakers early in the morning. We are catching some Kokanee in Mill Bay on Lake Chelan. Also, Omak and Grimes Lake are great.

On the Bar, troll Worden Lures Flatfish in either Luminous Chartreuse or Purple Glow in the T-4 size off the downriggers. Run little F7’s in LC or PG off the outriggers. This will minimize blowback. Or you can run Ace Hi Flies behind an Action Disk by Wiggle Fin baited with a chunk of Northern Pikeminnow. Another effective presentation off the outrigger rods are either Purple Glow Rushin’ Salmon Wobblers by Critter Gitter or Kingfisher Lite’s by Silver Horde. We plunked some nice double-digit fish there. Secondary locations that have produced after the Bar turns off are: the Trench, Sunnybank, Minneapolis and the Yacht Club.

Fish for Kokanee throughout the lower basin with a small dodger in front of a Mack’s Lures Kokanee Pro Wedding Ring. Bait the Wedding Ring with Pautzke’s Fire Corn in Natural or Orange.

Our Grimes guide, Jeff Witkowski had a nice day at Grimes Lake during the reporting period. He caught and released 24 fish ranging from 16 to 25 inches ranging in about 6 hours.

Your fishing tip of the week is to buy some of those Sam’s Pro Releases from Silver Horde. They will take a small slotted screwdriver to adjust, but there is no way for the line to hang up on the turns. It is a great “set tension” release and new on the market.

The kid’s tip of the week is to remember positive reinforcement for shaping appropriate behaviors. Lot’s of verbal praise when a kid is handling the gear correctly is fine. You know what your kid values most. I always basked in my Dad’s approval when he gave me a wink and a nod. Understated worked for me. Over the top praise was embarrassing. Every kid is different. My default practice is to praise loudly and criticize softly. Remember, while you can stop behaviors with negative reinforcement you cannot shape desired behaviors with it. No matter how difficult the kid, 70 to 90% of the interactions have to be positive and meaningful, or it becomes that old Charlie Brown cartoon where all adult’s verbiage was Wah, Wah, Wah.

The safety tip of the week is a repeat. Summer weather has arrived. Remember hydration and sunscreen. I’ve seen some cooked folks out there over the last week.
