Capt. Art Conway of Conway's River Rat Guide Service (804-746-2475) out of Ed Allen's Boats and Bait reported that Chickahominy Lake mid-day water temperatures were in the low to mid 50's on Wednesday. The lake level was slightly above the top of the dam. Moderate numbers of bluegill and a few yellow perch were still on some of the main lake weed flats and in the mouths of the major creeks. Crappie were primarily scattered in the main channels in the lake. Wright Bait Co. two inch curly tail grubs, tubes, swim baits, blade baits, and live minnows have been the most effective baits for crappie and yellow perch. A few bass were still scattered on weed beds in the creeks, creek mouths, and main lake, but most bass were on the dropoffs along the weed beds or hanging around bait schools in the deep winter holes in the lower lake.
