As of my last post, the ocean water was still very cold for the beginning of summer...holding below 60 degrees. Since then, water temps. warmed...offshore first, and thanks to the passing of the remnants of tropical system Cindy last week, inshore now as well. The result is catches (in numbers) as good as any we've seen all year, both inshore and off.

Bluefin tuna are on the 20 line, the key now is to find your own lump and fish. Look at a chart, find 120'-140' depths, and then find lumps that come up to 100'-110'. The fish are holding in the thermocline, down about 35', and you can see them on the machine. When you find them, keep working the area and you'll get them to come up.

The sea bass bite inshore improved dramatically. I caught more throwbacks on Saturday than probably in total for the past 3 weeks. By Sunday we got homed in on a better percentage of keepers now that we know they are biting.

Here are some highlights from the past few weeks -

6-17 - The Mark Zuccarello party brought home a box of 144 fish, mostly sea bass with some small bluefish mixed in and a ling.

6-18 - Seven-year old Liam steals the show catching the largest and most double header sea bass on the day. Check out that smile!

6-24 - Chris Thompson and gang catch 40+ slammer bluefish while trolling. Bluefin tuna were caught, but we just couldn't seem to troll fast enough to get away from the bluefish today to give the tunas a shot at our spread.

7-1 - With a 5 degree warm up in water temps, the bluefish have steamed north and the Bluefin bite gets hot as Tim K. and gang fight 9 bluefin to 25 pounds.

7-2 - The Bill Potts gang makes up a decent catch of sea bass in the fog, but Manuel nails the biggest sea bass of the season at 24" and 4.5 lbs. on the digital scale back at the dock. Check out that beauty!

7-4 - Larry, Paula and Terry fight 10 tunas to 25 pounds. These are Paula's and Terry's first tunas, congrats! They even let the Capt. fight a fish today!

7-9 and 7-10 - The sea bass bite is back on (inshore), as the water in 75' plus remains cold on the bottom. More throwbacks than keepers, but it's nice to have a total catch in the triple digits for a day again.
