FISHING REPORT
Mon Sept 19th
Dark morning. The winds have died out some but small craft warnings are still in effect. This morning it is 60 degrees and the ocean is in the upper 60s. The wind is NNE at 8 gusting to about 15.
We are now at the last week where you can keep a fluke. The season ends on Sept 25th. I went to the meeting when the dates were set for the fluke season this year and was very happy with the longer season but what a dissapointment it has been. Mother Nature seems to have ended it early for us. Irene came thru giving us all this dirty water and then weather conditions have kept boaters from finding them. The surf fisherman usually have a nice catch of them too come labor day when they start to move offshore but they also have had dirty water and a hard time getting to the point in Holgate to fish for them. Lets hope this last week things clean up and settle down for the end of the fluke season 2011.
Sun Sept 18th
The northeast wind has the tides running high and the wind is keeping anglers from holding bottom onthe beach. Those that are fishing are on the bayside catching blowfish.
The only offshore report I have from the weekend is from Bob O. who was off with a bunch of friends yesterday. They left the dock around 2 am and got in around 6 pm and had 2 small tuna to show for their catch. I asked him how it was and if they were the only ones out there. He said it was 5-7 and got worse as the day went on. He also said there were other boats out there.
This morning it is 62 and the wind is in the NE for the second day so you know if you are a surf fisherman it is a heavy sinker day. Ocean is in the upper 60s.
The surf had a few fish yesterday but once again nothing big here on the south end. A few boats fished the bay where they continue to catch blowfish. The weakfish are still around in the bay but the numbers seemed to slow with the last few chillier nights.
The cloudy moved in heavy in the afternoon yesterday and had some showers making for a damp afternoon.
Feeling like fall we had a number of anglers in gearing up for the up coming bass season and or joining the fall tournament.
There was a good push of mullet yesterday afternoon which can only help to get some bigger fish here.
