Jim's Bait and Tackle report, Cape may 7-18
Fluke fishing in Cape May was spotty this week.Fish have come from Brown Shoal and Reef Site #6 on the Delaware Side.A few fish have been caught at the 9 and 10 buoy but not as many as last week. Some fish are being caught at Brandywine shoals and #16 buoy. Capt. Harvey Yenkinson of the charter boat Vet Craft weighed in a 12.97 lb doormat, caught Friday at Brandywine Shoals.
Captain Lyle Rutty landed an 11lb sheepshead at the Cold Spring Jetty.
False albacore and some bonita are coming from the offshore lumps mixed in with some small blue fish and dolphin.
The Tuna bite was mostly to the north at especially from the 40 fathom to 100 fathom lines of the Lindenkohl. the fish seemed to be at different depths and areas throughtout the week but mostly in the Lindenkohl and Spencer. White Marlin and a few blue marlin have been scattered thoughout all the canyons . One place does not seem to have a concentration of marlin.
Bluefin was slow this week. Most fish were caught at the 19 fathom lump and lumps inside the Elephant's trunk.
The best bet for the surf has been Cape May point. There are a lot of fluke in the surf there with a few keepers here and there.
On Saturday the tuna bite turned on in the Baltimore with a few boats catching a limit of yellowfin.
