Jim's Bait and Tackle report, Cape may 5-30-10
The bass are still biting on the beachfront. Because of the the tides have been really ripping. The beat bite happened around slack tide from Poverty Beach to 2nd St and in the cove. Fish were caught all along the beach. Mark kerlin of Calvin Pa caught a 46lb bass in the surf on weds. Tyler Kerlin fishing next to him caught a 23 lb bass.Harvey thomas of Millville weighed in a 32 lb bass from Poverty Beach.
George Coffee from Gibbsboro weighed in a 37 1/2 lb bass from the surf. Gary Mencer is currently leading the Jim's tournament with a 32lb bass caught today.
Drum are biting on the NJ side of the bay. Fish are being caught at Tussy's Slough and some at the Pintop. The bite was very good over the weekend but the crowd of boats hurts fishing somewhat. the bite was better in the evening when it was less crowded.
Fluke fishing was best in the backwaters and the Intercoastal waterway early in the morning. the was also a bite at Delaware reef site #11 along with some seabass and a few cod. the guys fishing Delaware Bay had some fish but they were mostly shorts. We had no reports from the Old Grounds but if there at fish at #11 , they should be at the old groungs too.
Some people were shark fishing, but we didn't hear of much mako action. We weight a 167 1/2 lb fish caught at the Southpaw on Sunday by Emer Hughs on his boat Chilling out. They also had 2 blue sharks
Don't forget our shark tournament on June 19th.
