Jim's Bait and Tackle, Cape May, Fishing report 8-8
Fluke fishing hasn't changed much from last week with Cape May reef being the most consistent spot. Most of the fish are short but there are some keepers if you work for them. Mark Riley and his crew from Mt Holly had 12 good sized keepers and 2 dolphin that showed up white drifting at the South Old Grounds. Mark says he does best bucktailing around structure at the grounds.
the inshore trolling got better this week with 1-3lb blues at 5 fathom bank and spanish mackerel, false albacore and bonita at the inshore lumps and Sea Isle Ridge, along with a few nice sized dolphin. A few wahoo and yellowfin tuna have been reported from the edge of the elephants trunk near the Teacup. Some nice dolphin have come fron the Cigar on Saturday and some spanish mackerel. Harry Markum from Cherry Hill hooked and lost a white marlin at the Cigar.
The offshote tuna bite slowed this week. It gets better as you get north around the Tom's Canyon. Art Hampshire of Cold Spring picked up 2 yellowfin at the 40 fathom fingers inside the Spencer Canyon. The fish were in the 50lb range. White Marlin seem to be spread through all the canyons with no area having a great concentration.
The surf fishing is the best at Cape May point for fluke and croakers. Live minnows and twit tail Gulp mullet seem to work the best for fluke. Clams and squid are the best for croakers.
Matt.
