Jim's Bait and tackle, Cape May fishing report 8-21
Hey Guys, The Fluke fishing just keeps getting better. The numbers of bigger fish being caught are going up. The Old Grounds was very productive this week the charter boat "Miss Andrea" reported 36 keeper fish on one charter and sizes up to 7.5 lbs. There are more fish on both CM reef and Wildwood reef as well. There are even fish being caught a 1/2 mile right out of the inlet. Most of these fish are small but there are some croakers and small blues mixed in.
There seem to be Dolphin just about everywhere. Fluke fisherman are catching them on all the reefs with fish ranging in size from ckickens to gaffers. David Haentze Jr. Age 8 of Cape May was fishing on his dad's boat and caught his 1st dolphin along with 14 others up to 15lbs on a lump around 26 miles out. There are still a few Yellowfin being picked on the the inshore chunk and troll but it seemed to slow up a little towards the weekend probably due to traffic.
Offshore there was a good Bigeye bite in the Baltimore and Wilmington Canyons . Rick Olson Was fishing the Wilmington on Thursday on his boat the "Jenny O" and boated 2 Bigeyes and a Yellowfin and broke off a bigger one. The fish we weighed for Rick was 239 1/2 lbs. . There are plenty of Whites out there too. Some boats are getting as many as ten or more shots in a day. If this keep up September should be better than was last year.
The surf is still loaded with small Fluke at CM point and we are seeing more Kingfish being caught there as well as small Blues and a few Spot.
Jill Tilsnee of Cape May Landed her 1st Mahi while fishing aboard the "Lariat" in the Wilmington Canyon on Saturday a 12 lb fish.
Thanks.
Thanks, Matt
