The weather hampered fishing this week. Last Sunday was great but it slowed significantly during the week. Saturday was hit or miss. Chris Burley and crew had 15 keepers at the north end if the Cape May reef. The fish were all tight to the structure and other areas did not do so well. The Old Grounds and Reef Site 11 wre also slow but they gave up a few keepers. Carrie Matthews from Thompson Beach, NJ boated a 9.29 lb flounder from the Old Grounds on Saturday. Martin Baylor from Clementon, NJ had an 8.22lb flounder fron site 11
The inshore troll was good this week. They were getting plenty of 1-2 lb blues at the East Lump . They were spitting up sandeels and spoons worked best. On Saturday they were trolling up some yellowfins, wahoo and small blackfin tuna at the 19 Lump.
Boats trolling the 40 fathom line inside the Baltimore had yellowfin, dolphin, wahoo , skipjack and small blackfin tuna. We had 6 good reports from this area all trolling. On the chunk we only heard of 2 yellowfin at 1st light in this area.
The offshore marlin bite seemed to be best at the triple 000s by the poormans canyon. North along this line to the Poormansit was not unheard of to have double digit shots on Saturday. Poppa's Toy went 9 for 13 in that area, had 2 20lb class dolphins and lost a wahoo at the boat.
In the surf croakers and fluke are still at Cape May Point . some 1-3 lb blues showing up ay Poverty Beach on mackerel and mullet. A few spot are showing on the Wildwood Crest Beaches at hightide.
