Bigger fluke are being caught on The Axel Carlson reef now as I was out on Saturday and most of the fish in this area were in the 3-6lb range. They were all over the bigger baits as opposed to the usual spearing/squid baits. The rest of the shoreline is still seeing shorts with keepers mixed in and there is no special hot spot to speak of other than the Axel.
There are plenty of big BFT in the Glory Hole area. Boast are getting their under and over fish every day!! Trolling Mahi Jets has been a red hot way of catching them along with Rainbow colored daisys, spreader bars and troling ballyhoo as well.
There are bluefish off of Seaside as of this morning too. They are jigging them up in about 50 - 70 feet of water.
The Hudson is alive with yellowfin as boats are getting tuna every trip over the last few weeks. The action is spread out and you are sure to find them!! Its been a daily bite! Get out now!!
The surf has plenty of fluke in it for our area beaches and using both bluefrog bucktails (smaller, swinging hooks) and regular fluke rigs worked in slowly are working very well. Fish up to 8.4lbs from the surf recently!!
Just a quick note, the reason that the Mahi jets have been working so well is because of the small lure size, ( what they are feeding on, small fish) and because of the incredible smaoke trail that they leave behind! We have had luck with these Mahi Jets for a ferw years now on both BFT and in the canyons on YFT, Longfin and even a couple of whites.
If you dont have any, try to find a small lure with a huge smoke trail! The jet head on these lures are inverted, creating a bigger trail!
