The big opener was not what everybody expected in the Manasquan Inlet area. The water temps dropped due to the heavy rains and the first part of Saturday was quiet. After 2 weeks of fluke being caught that were over 5lbs, it was quiet for the first part of the opener.

I was out in the morning, I fished the ocean, the river and found all of our fish inside in the Barnegat Bay. With the cooler temps in the river, the fish were slow to respond until late in the day yesterday!

We found 6 fish that were just a 1/4" under legal. We were bucktailing and using traditional rigs to get them. The best results were on the new Blue Frog Bucktails. These jigs have smaller hooks than other brands. The northern part of the bay was the best area to find them.

The other reports that came in from our customers were average with fish being caught , but nothing really as exciting as the week before when we had 8lb fish hitting lures being trolled for bass.

The bass report was quiet yesterday as well. Its all starting to pick up again today after the runoof from the heavy storms had a few tides to wash out. Reports of bass in between Shark iver and manasquan Inlets this morning.

Just want to mention real quick that the CO's were out in force yesterday! We watched them writing out fines for short fish, and we were boarded also.

We found out from the officers what they do with the fish. If the fish are alive, they are returned to the water after a photo that is used for evidence. If the fish are dead, they are taken and frozen as evidence until later in the year.
You will pay a $30 fine for each fish, and.....you cant keep it either!!
