    Jersey Tackle Bass Report

We had alot of weigh ins earlier from the boaters and the surf guys keep bringing them in as I type. Plenty of bass being caught out in front with jigging being the most popular way to find them this week. Krocodiles, Grunts, Sandeel jigs are all working well as these fish are feeding more on sandeels than bunker right now.

The surf bass are really pretty skinny recently and they resemble Spring fish rather than fall fish. Usually theu are stuffed and fat, but we have fish at 36" only weighing 10lbs 12ozs recently. I got some pics sent to me today from a friend that is still hitting big fish up in Montauk, so I think we have plenty of time still to see the main body of migrating bass. Clams are the top bait for the surf fishermen right now with plugs being a 2nd choice to jigs. Sandeels are thick, so use thin lures.

    BEACH REPORT-
Plenty of bass hitting the scales yesterday & today from the local beaches. The most recent fish are pretty skinny and seem like Spring Fish more than Fall Run Fish! Fish up to 38" weighing only 13lbs. Dino Degregorio of Brick stopped in with bass up to 14lbs 14ozs caught on a Black Mambo Minnow. Terry S. of Brick had his limit 2 days in a row on clams with fish up to 13lbs, Darrly F. stopped by with fish both days as well up to 11lbs on clams. The bunker are not really here yet! Plenty of mullet, peanut bunker & sandeels in the water, but the adult bunker have not shown up in numbers just yet. If looking to use lures or jigs, keep them thin and simple. Try to match the hatch as our freshwater fishermen would say. Pencil poppers, Ava Jigs, JCC Sandeels, smaller Bombers & Mabo Minnows are all working right now. The bigger lures will see more action once we see more adult bunker. The boys up on Long Island are still getting some nice fish in good numbers, soI think we have another week or two before we see our real action! Time will tell! Clams , mullet and sandeels are working for the bait guys!

    INSHORE-
The bass & blues are still keeping our local boats busy! We have alot of Bluefin Tuna in our local inshore waters. The guys jigging are actually finding & hooking some decent fish inshore. I know these fish are migrating and often dont bite, but the jiggers are hooking up and finding some keepers. Several boats are coming back with their allowed BFT fishing just 2 - 8 miles off Manasquan Inlet. RonZ Lures, JCC Tuna Jigs, Ava007 with a heavier hook and Whip It Eels are all working on these BFT. The guys trolling are finding a few here and there, but not as many as the guys who are jigging!
Seabass Season re-opens on Monday, 11/1/10 and from the reports, it should pick up right where it left off! The tog are on the inshore structure and some nice keepers up to 12lbs are being caught!

    OFFSHORE-
Not alot to report since last report due to the weather. Some nice yellowfin are still being had in the Hudson and southern canyons as well. More swords being caught now with the dropping water temps and it should continue to get better for the swords! Sharks are being caught now as well with some pretty nice Mako's hooked this week. I will update the offshore report as soon as I get more info!
