Jersey Coast to MA Boat transport

    Hello,

Looking for some pointers on going up the Coast Via Barnegat Inlet up to NY and throught the East River Leading Eventuly up the coast to MA. I am purchasing a vessel in NJ 36 Trojan and would need to transport it to MA.

I don't have any expierence with the NJ coast and want some pointers as I understand it can be challenging. I was also debating using the ICW up to Manasquam and then to NYC.

Any help is appreciate It would probably be done some time the beginning of may?

OR should I just put it on a truck? I would rather run it up for the expierence, but have been told not to run any inlet but Manasuqan?

Any one have a recomendation for a good captain? If I was to hire some on to come along?

Send a pm to JD5652- He took his boat from Morehead City up to his place in Conneticut. He should be able to help you.

If not, try posting this same question in either the Mix it up forum or he Big Game Offshore forum. More people read those forums and might catch someones eye who can help.

Good Luck With the New Boat!

We can get you through Barnegat or Manasquan, they are not bad at all. What is your starting point?

Beginning of may the channels should be freshly marked in Barnegat (not an issue at manasquan), and there will be boat traffic to follow on the weekends

They have been dredging Manasquan all winter, it should be a cakewalk

The intercoastal is well marked all through barnegat bay if you decide to stay inside. Manasquan is the northern end of the IC, so you will need to run outside from there to the hook.

As DD mentioned, they still have the winter markers in around BI, so updated charts are a must. There are a few around here that work on the water in the area and may be able to provide an escort if necessary. BI to Sandy Hook is around a 40 mile run. 20 if you go out of Mansquan, but you deal with 20 miles of Barnegat Bay. Outside is easier, but I understand the anxiety of running a new rig.

The east river isn't too bad, catching a ride on the tide always helps. Bring a camera, you'll want to do a cruise by the Statue of Liberty.

I made the run down from Pt. Judith a fwe years back. Pt Judith to Sandy Hook. took about 10 hours @ 20 knots and a long fuel stop.

    Good Luck

After looking at the charts, looks like there is plenty of skinny water in the ICW , personaly i would opt for the 14 mile run south then go on the outside to the east river 235 miles to Buzzards bay entrance going this way
