Jersey Coast Bait and Tackle, Brick Fishing report 8-10
LOCAL FISHING REPORT FOR MANASQUAN INLET AREA OUT TO THE HUDSON CANYON
Barnegat Bay - Manasquan River - Mantoloking - Brick Beach - Seaside Park - Bay Head
Sea Girt Reef - Axel Carlson Reef - Mudhole
AUGUST 9, 2011
OCEAN-
The recent reports are still good with the local areas producing decent fluke on a daily basis. Deeper water is still seeing alot of bigger fish while the shallower waters are holding both keepers and plenty of shorts right now. OMT Bucktails in Orange/Glow and Glow are red hot right now! Thes ebucktails have a smaller 4/0 or 5/0 hook, making them perfect for fluke and seabass. Traditional bucktails have larger hooks and need assist hooks attached for smaller fish such as fluke and seabass. Go with orange on your rigs as well! Seems the combination of orange and our current water quality are producing the right color on the bottom to get the fish feeding. I dont know what it is with orange, but it works and it works great!!
Inshore tuna, mahi mahi reports are pretty strong still! Plenty of mahi being caught from just a few miles out, all of the way out to the Glory Hole. We are seeing 4lb mahi as close as the Sea Girt Reef! Most of the steady action for tuna and mahi has been on the flats south of the Mudhole and GloryHole. The Bluefin are responding to jigs more and more each day now with warmer water temps. Trolling Green Machines and Ballyhoo are still the 2 best things to use for trolling. If looking for mahi or albies and bonito, use small spoons and feathers as well. They will hit the Green Machines too, but having a few smaller lures will give you an advantage.
Offshore is picking back up again, with steady reports of Yellowfin in the Chicken Canyon, Hudson and the flats to the south of the Chicken. Bigger mahi out there too with catches up in the high 20's being hung on the scales. Green Machines, cedar plugs, Daisy Chains with mini green machines are hot in the canyons right now! If your looking to jig, use Spanko Jigs, Tonno Jigs, Sake Jigs on the readings. The boys have been chunking both sardines and butters at night andn the yellowfin are responding very well. Also seen a few makos in the 160 -200lb range on the chunk over the last few days!
BAY-RIVER
The snappers are in full swing and the crabbing is excellent right now! We have plenty of fluke hanging from the Mantoloking Bridge up into the River too! Using killies in the bay has been an excellent choice. Gulp! working ok, but killies have the advantage right now inside!
