I jumped on the Jamaica II yesterday for a 12hr bottom fishing trip. Nice smooth ride to the inletthen we cleared the inlet and got pounded for the next 2 1/2 hours
a NE wind 15 to 20 all the way there. Sunrise was only so so due to some clouds. Once we anchored up and the sun was alittle higher it wasn't that bad.
After all the coolers were cleaned upwe set about the task at hand. I assumed my traditional spot on the port side bow and proceded to catch every seabass within 500 yards of the boat 99.9% shorts
.
The next couple of stops we made pretty much produced the same I did manage to put a half dozen 15" to 16" bass in the coolerthey where few and far bettween I asure you.
Pool winner was a cod in the 15lb range. There where some ling and a few bluefish caught as well, along with the ever present bergalls and dogfish. From what I observed everybody was catching a few here and there with no real "high hook" on the boat. Water depth at the first stop was approximately 200'+ after that it was more like 140'.
Bait of choice was clams, I saw a few guys using soft plastic baits. My tackle consisted of a Calstar Graphiter 700L coupled with a Shimano Torium 20 with Jerry Brown Line One Spectra 65lb, hook of the day was Mustad 10829BLN in the 4/0 to 5/0 size, started the day with 6oz of lead and ended the day with 8oz most were using 10 for the entire day.
All in all it was a great day on the water. Nice smooth ride home and a sun set that only mother nature can create.
