Indian River Marina fishing report 10-9
Fishing Report for 10/7
October 7th, 2010 by Indian River Marina
Inshore and Inlet fishing still continues to be productive even though the weather has reduced the numbers of anglers venturing out for the last few days. There are still reports of Summer Flounder, Croaker, Bluefish, Stripers and yes, even Weakfish (Sea Trout) being caught.
A reminder that Tog (Tautog) reopened at the end of September, but there are two other highly sought after species that are going to have their seasons closed. Summer Flounder season is scheduled to close on Wednesday October 13th for the remainder of the year. While Black Sea Bass is scheduled to close Monday October 11th and scheduled to reopen on November 1st (Sea Bass is regulated thru the NMFS so be sure to check regulations regarding their seasons). Fortunately the Striped Bass normally reach their peak around this time of year.
Here are some photo’s of some recent catches.

Yes, your eye’s aren’t deceiving you, it’s a Weakfish! Charles Heite of Rehoboth Beach caught this very elusive 6lb Weakfish (Sea Trout) while fishing the south side of Indian River Inlet on a bucktail. Let’s hope we see more of these great fish in the future.

Jimmy Dove of Lincoln, DE caught this trio of Flounder with the largest tipping the scales at 10.7lb and measuring 28 1/2″. They were caught on a 6″ Gulp Grub in the Indian River Inlet.

Carol Rader of Douglassville, PA caught this nice 2.3lb Flounder while Fishing on the headboat “Judy V” out of Indian River Marina on a strip of squid.

Mike Crampsey, Rob Severin and Ron Varano had this nice catch of Flounder (largest weighing 4.8lbs) and Sea Bass while fishing on a charter aboard the headboat “Capt Bob” out of Indian River Marina.

Although the weather has not been conducive to fishing off the beach the past few days due to the remnants of some tropical systems, there is still good fishing to be had when the weather conditions warrant. Below are some photo’s of some recent catches.

Garth and 8 year old Ian Beall caught these two citation Dolphin (Mahi) of 22.7 and 21.7lbs at the Baltimore Canyon. What a great catch and great way to get a young angler involed in fishing.

Brad Clark of Ocean View, DE caught this 23lb Dolphin (Mahi) while fishing on the “Saltwater Cowboy” at the Elephant Trunk.

Kenny McNutly caught this 20lb Wahoo on Ballyhoo while fishing at the Hambone.

Capt Steve Peterson of the charter boat “Pandemonium” returned from an overnight charter trip with a 126lb (dressed) Hammerhead Shark. The charter group from Pennsylvania also caught some Dolphin (Mahi) on the trip.
Had to save this great catch for last. Ross Clubb on the boat “Chain Reaction” caught this 3lb Dolphin (Mahi) on his Pink Mighty Mite rod & reel with 4lb test at the Baltimore Canyon.
