Three trips this week in search of elusive bluefish for bait for one last run at a mako tourney. Man is it slow! Trip one had us cover the whole of sandy hook bay to the New York side. Weather crept in and shortened our run with nothing to show for it.
Day two had a few friends join me. We picked but on really small ones. Too small for shark bait... Used some little Rapalas with some results but the small hooks pulled on quite q few fish. Ran out in the ocean south to Shrewsbury Rocks. Tons of bunker but no blues there...
Today not a single bird. Some bunkers and stay snapper blues popping up. Again way too small. Switched up to gulps and went fluking. In the bay all were short but plentiful. Though the day sucked I did have one highlight close to home. A 6-7 pound doormat on the same gulp. Litterally a stones throw from where we dock...
Had some the other day on a party boat and did good but we were like 18 miles east of manasquan! should have called and said you needed some... i had close to 20 fish and gave them all away!!
if you need them soon i might be able to make a run this weekend and deliver them up to you man! let me know paul!! but they were sperming all over me! so i assume the summer spawn is on its way SHORTLY!
Gonna check the belmar party boats in a while... This tourney starts Friday. Need to fuel boat before so it really has to be today... I have some but not near enough...
Try at nigh tunder the highlands bridge on poppers and metal, have been nice sized shark biat blues there for a week ro so, not positive they are still there, but should be with the lights there, plus i know that is a short run for you. Hope that helps you out...good luck in the tourney!!
Picked a couple a couple weeks ago doing that. Normally have a hole off the Oceanic that holds them but not even a sea robin in there this year. That pack of dolphin that had everyone so thrilled last year sat in there for months and I think might have spooked the fish. Not even good fluke in there this year when its usually on fire...
