I haven't done much fishing in the bay the past 2 years as I have had the offshore addiction. But with the weather the way it has been and the PITA of trailering to the beach all summer I want to get back into upper/mid bay fishing. I usually troll in the summer for rock, my question is, How do you rig for live lining? Drift? Kick boat in and out of gear? Best baits? How do you rig them? Any infomation would be greatly appreciated. Also, any help on LTJ would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.
We pick up small spot or white perch first thing in the morning and then head to the spot were gonna fish. Using a 3' length of 20 lb shock leader we either bridle a circle hook (more work) or lip/snout hook the bait fish. just above the connection of the leader/main line I add 1/8 oz - 1/4 oz buckshot to allow the bait to sink to the desired depth without impeding its swimming. let out the desired amount and lock it off with a in line styrofoam bobber I like the pass through ones which allow me to pull the pin or rubberband locking it off quickly not impeding my fight of the fish.
WHEW!!! FOR A SECOND THERE I THOUGHT CAPT D WAS GOING PRIVATE ON SHARING TIPS....THEN I REALIZED HE WAS SPEAKING OF SOME GPS POSITIONS !!
PERSOANALLY...I LOOK FORWARD TO AN EXTENSIVE "HOW -TO" HERE FOR THERE ARE MANY MANY NEW MEMBERS NOW....SOME JUST GETTING STARTED ON BAY FISHING.....AND AS FOR MYSELF....I WANT TO LEARN AS WELL TO BE A BETTER STRIPER FISHERMEN.
THANKS D....PLEASE EVERYONE KEEP THE BITE GOING HERE!!!
I'm hoping some more will chime in here and there. I grew up on the Chesapeake but didn't start for stripers until i was 13. Then when I bought my boat at 18 1/2 yr. old I got the offshore bug and only really fish heavy in the bay in the spring and a little in the fall. Even when I did fish in the summer time up here all i did was chum for stripers, but always heard people on the radio talking about live lining. And then this year it seems that all I keep hearing about is live lining and light tackle jigging.
If you got the patiance I can show you how to do this without even using a hook! That right I said NO HOOK! It's the only way to go. Your bait will stay alive forever!
Capt. D, Spent most of the time trolling, and then tried LLing on the channel edge. Was getting ready to go and try it and the boat traffic was just rediculous so we headed in. Hoping to try tom, 9/12 AM before work.
