you might not get them to the boat but this will give ya some fun too. Needle a hole in the dorsal fin of the spot or perch, insert the mono and tie a mono loop (fishermens loop ...what ever you call it in MD). Now the fun part...a rock will flip the bait fish in its mouth and scale it before swallowing....here is the fight part.....sideways in the mouth the spot or perch will not come out and you might get the rock to the net or even in the boat before it falls to the deck. It will take about 10 sec after the hit before the bait is in position to reel......greedy buggers like squirrels with nuts
First off I have got to reply to my friend KEY LIME PIE'S remarks to this post.
Anyone who has followed this site knows that Tom can write quite a nice and in depth story. I do not know how many of you remember his post " In a secocond it was gone". I think by reading his replys to this post he may be a bit jeolous because I have a method to cathing fish without a hook where he chooses to save a few pennies by buying inferior hooks and loosing the gamefish of a lifetime.
Enough with that.
THE TECHNIQUE:
O.k. you know how to rig the perch, lets get on to the catchin'.
First if you remember there is no weight or floats to this technique, after all when there little buggers swim "aw nataural" they aint got no weight or float hooked to them!
Just let em out in free spool and take a piece of copper rigging wire and tie it around your reel stanchion and then loop the other end around the line coming off the reel so that the little bugger can take line if it wants to. The idea here is to let it swim where it wants unristricted!! When you notice him getting nervous and the SINGLE strand of copper sraightned out and the line coming off your reel, be patient, give it a least a 15-20 count before you set the PERCH. You want bubba to get it own his throat before the line comes tight.
As most of you know, MOST of the time when a striper feeds they will stun their prey with a WACK from the tail and then come back and swollow the prey head first. When this happens and the line comes tight the barbs on a White Perches dorsal will wook bubba.
BEFORE you start making bets how you can catch a Striper without a hook, you must practice this technique or you mide as well winterize the boat, becauce I can guarantee you you will not have any money left for the best part of the seaon. FALL.
Please keep in mind your choice of baits, This system is only intended for Stripers that meet the legal slot limit otherwise they are DEAD.
I prefer perch in the 4"-6" range.
Good luck and if ou want to see it in acion, P.M. me and I WILL TAKE YOU!!!!!
I HOPE OL FLAT GETS SUM SLOWWER & BRAVER SPOT THIS WED. THE LAST TIME THE SPOT WOULDN'T LEAVE THE BOTTOM OF THE BOAT !
