MD Great Day on the Bay (w/Pics)

Bill K. and I launched at Chesapeake Beach Marina at 8:30am and fished until 2:20pm today, 8/30/06. The skies were cloudy putting low light conditions on the water. The winds were out of the northeast blowing approximately 10 to 15 mph.

The fish finder lit up on our first stop.

It wasn’t long before the best fish finders showed up and stayed around the rest of the day.

The most productive lure was a Lure Jensen, Crippled Herring, 1 1/2 ounce, White Body, Yellow Back.

Both ‘on the run’ and bottom jigging were very productive for both bluefish and striped bass.

    Fishing Tip:

    Wear this..

And after handling over 200 fish your hand will look

    Like this..
    Worked for me.

    Yet another great report!!

    Any macs?

I haven't been out there in over a week, and it's killing me. Great report.

I had yesterday penciled in for the day to go but work kept me at the office instead.

    Maybe next week.

    Thanks for sharing.

No such luck. Didn’t see any clearing the water, but I fished for them hard. I was running the spoon up in the water column and fast. After tonight I feel they will be gone.

There was plenty of nice size bluefish caught along with some keeper size rockfish. Good luck next week.

HOLWACHAGOT: Thanks for the kind words.

    Capt Tom,

I fished the area around TPL yesterday and we saw lots of blues busting the water. They were gorging on silversides and puking them al over the boat.

Tried to find the Macs by ripping a hopkins across the water near the schools, but never found any. We did catch a nice size Hickory (about 15") while jigging a gold Kastmaster. Didn't have a camera with me tho dang-it. I'm figuring he was lost.

Caught a 19" American on a Rattletrap up on the Susky Flats in April of 04, but never a Hickory in the Bay. Strange.
In fact, the day I got that American, I captured this guy. Know him?

I did the same on the eastern shoreline, and like you, no takers. Thanks for giving me that picture. It’s now posted on my website.

Ken Tidy: Thanks for the reply. You should have been there with your fly rod!

    Hey Tom and Dave,

It’s been a hell of a summer for the Tidys, we have not been doing much fishing this year, work has Dianne and I tied up, and I have been under the weather. Bought two new digital Nikons and haven hardly taken any pictures of fish, mostly work related stuff. Tom, I still need to get with you for those shots of anglers wearing PFD whelk fishing.

Spent two weeks getting the boat and trailer ready for the fall season, and we get hit with a storm on Labor Day weekend, we are heading to the beach to some fly fishing in the surf for a few day. Then you will se us out on the Bay for the fall run.

    Regards-Ken

    Tidy’s:

Sorry you’ve been under the weather and working too hard is unforgettable. The upper Bay is already giving up some 40” plus fish.

I hope to see you ‘on the water’ this fall and Ken you can come over to my boat anytime and take pictures of anglers wearing PFD.
