Good sharking day offshore w/pics
Left Belmar Inlet at 0-Dark Thirty and headed for someplace east of the Glory Hole for this week’s shark Trip. It was just Paul, Leo, and I but we figured three guys were enough. We took long hard ride out as the wind never really laid down. Once at the fishing grounds we got set up and not five minutes in we had our first Blue Shark. Always a nice thing when you have a Virgin on the boat. As soon as we reset the gear we had two fish. The one I saw was a legal Mako, but right at the limit. Both fish were on at the same time and it was quick fight for both. As the second fish came up, I saw that it was another Mako and worth keeping for the first good eating fish of the season. The fish measured 72” and weighed in at 135lbs. We kept up this pace, catching five more Blues and one Brown. This was all complete by 0930 hours. Then it slowed down and we continued to have Mahi in the slick. Unfortunately we were unable to hook up as I did not bring the proper bait for them. The sharking slowed to a crawl and had one more blue around 1100. We pulled gear and headed for the barn early. The water was crystal clear blue and 74 degrees. Beautiful day on the water. God Bless the USA.
