Fluke report delaware bay 07-12
Ken aboard the Lostboys reports:
KNEW it was going to be snotty as he-l today, waited until 10 am to go out, not far from Flat Top, figured once the tide let up, it would be a little better. Nasty as predicted, 4 ft seas easily the moment we rounded EP. Guess what? By the turn of the tide approx 2pm, calmed down, wind actually died for a couple hours, then a gentle NW 5 kt breeze. First truly nice, CALM fishing day this year! Never expected it, which made it even nicer. Didn't head home until 7pm, it was that nice. 5 keepers, two of them nice, 1 23", 1 21", the rest 18-19.5" Outgoing tide, water temps 76. Easily 40-50 throwbacks, until approx 4pm, when we started freight training at 3K plus, even with no wind! For what it's worth, a few observations for today. First time in 5 weeks I have not limited out in this area, but I've only fished a full outgoing tide on one other occasion here. All my success has been with an incoming tide. Water temps jumped 5 degrees since Thursday, but that's probably because the tide was an ebb tide. All the usual spots that produced large keepers didn't. Just a bad day? Outgoing tide? Will find out Thursday, as I'm hitting the exact same spot again. On the other hand, I'm complaining about catching "only" 5 keepers? The fanatastic action in this area I guess has me spoiled, or perhaps taking the fantastic action for granted. Be interesting to see what gets posted this coming week.
