Fluke Fishery Faces Future Closures - SSFFF Support Dinner March 6th
Thanks to the fund raising efforts by the Save the Summer Flounder Fishery Fund, the work of Dr. Mark Maunder at the 2008 Stock Assessment Workshop resulted in the overall Summer Flounder quota being increased by 3 million pounds for the 2009 season. Even with the increase in total quota, we continue to see more restrictive regulations. Dr. Maunder has identified additional research to be done that can result in additional increases in quota that will eventually lead to better regulations. Without it, the fishery continues to face a complete closure in coming years.
Come on out and support the SSFFF at their 2nd annual fund raising dinner on March 6th, 2009 from 7-11 pm, held at the centrally located Crystal Point Yacht Club in Point Pleasant, NJ. In addition to a cocktail hour and complete dinner, there will also be Chinese and silent auctions. Guest speakers, including the new Managing Director of the RFA, Jim Hutchinson, Jr., will be in attendance. Tickets are $75/person and can be purchased on the SSFFF website at www.ssfff.net (online and mail-in options available). Get your tickets today!
