Fished the Hump today with Darren. It was a lake out there and quite a few boats in the vacinity. I tried to avoid the largest portion of the boats and look along the edge of deeper water for a larger fish. We were fishing just off the Baltimore Channel bouy #25 as the edge drops down into the channel.
We only caught five and they were not biting fast. Darren had three and I had two. I think several folks did better than we on numbers however several that I have talked to since said that they had fewer than we did. My two fish were quality: a 24" fish and a 26.5" fish. Darren's three were between 17 & 22 inches. I really don't know why the bigger ones bit my rig however I would love to rag on him that it was pure skill.
The big one just missed paper, weighing in at 6-12 and was caught on a flounder rig with a chartreuse squid in front of a strip of flounder belly/minnow. My other fish also came on a chartreuse bait but it was a hair skirt. All of Darren's came on pink.
Fish were caught on standard flounder rigs with flounder belly/minnow combos. The drift was slow and we were able to hold bottom easily with 4 ounces. At times I bumped the boat in and out of gear in order to speed up our drift.
