What the?”-L.B.I.-Fishing report-11-17-09-By Bob Misak
The storm that passed through this week was a good one, and you couldn’t even look at the beach, let alone fish on it. Guys are just now starting to put their toes in the water out there, but the fishing has been non existent. No weigh-ins in the surf tourney in days, partly due to the fact that the bunker boats couldn’t get out there and get us any bait. I did hear of some guys fishing the calm waters of the inlet and nailing a few 15 lb. fish. As I’m writing this report I’m sure those alligator blues are on their way back to the beaches edge to chase some bunker like they were last week. All we need now is a little more participation, as some fresh bunker came into the shop today, so things will get back to normal in no time. I was on the beach yesterday and it was amazingly calm and clean, so I expect fish will be getting caught soon. It almost seems like it went from too rough to too calm. Drifting spots starting in the inlet and working your way outside would probably be the thing as a lot of bass got pushed into the bay by the million miles an hour winds we had. B.L.B.T. is now loaded and ready with bait!
My brother-in-law Don Golden drifted some spots outside near Harvey Cedars where all the action was last week and he said the fish weren’t responding. Like I said, as I write the fish are on their way.
The tog limit went up to 6 fish at 14 inches on Monday and the 6th st. dock was jammed up with guys. Everybody is catching fish and the shop had to reload with green crabs as they all got bought up. So you do have a couple options to go out and get fish. You can hit the beach with some fresh bunker, and the rest of the week will pay off, I promise. You can go over by the condo docks on the outgoing tide and try to catch a limit of white chins or you can drift spots around any place you want. Sounds to me like its either gonna be hit the beach hard and be the first one back on the board in a week, or go over and grab a spot for a day of blackfishin’.
The head boats are headin’ out and catchin’ fish off the wrecks too, as they had some nice ling fishin’ along with the wreck fishin’ trips for tog, which will draw attention as soon as the first 10 lb. whitey comes through that inlet. With the tog limit up it might not be a bad idea to jump on a head boat and go limit out on tog. At least you’ll catch some fish for your money. Again, my heart goes out to those head boats for having to endure some “wallet smacking” regulations in 09’. Anyway, I haven’t seen neither hide nor hair of the regulars since We all went out on the 14th st. bar on Wednesday of last week and got a good ol’ weather beat down! This week’s fishing is going to pick up, and don’t forget that the tog all got pushed up into the bay by the lighthouse, so get em’ while the getting’s good. The shop is good on crabs and bunker and clams, so have at it! Good luck and great fishing to everyone.
barnegat light, fishing for stripper from 11/20-11/30
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site and was looking for some advice re. stripper fishing. I'll be down in barnegat for the next ten days on 26th street. I was wondering if anyone had any recomedations re. fishing the surf in that area and what bait they seem to be hitting on. I usually will alternate between eel, clams and bunker. I'd prefer to avoid the inlet and stick to the surf. Any suggestions or reccomedations would really be helpful. Even the best tide times a couple hours before high, etc. what type of sinkers; anything. Thanks very much!
