    Fishing in Ocean City

Interested in some info on some fishing locations in Ocean City. I do mostly inshore flounder fishing, and occasionally head out to troll the inshore areas out to about 25 miles. When and Where is the best place for spring stripers and blues? Summer flounder? Trolling for blues and inshore tuna? Thanks John

    John,
Ok, lets do this by species:
Stripers: You need to stay within 3mi. of the shoreline. I have had my best luck with stripers in the inlet. Eels, spot, fish the rocks. You can also drag some stretches along assateaque (had fair success with this method)

Blues: WOW, we have a lot of options here, any type of structure or change in bottom contor. If you get that list from Mike (Bills4Bills) you will see names like Bass Grounds, Twin Wrecks/1st, 2nd, 3rd lump. All good spots and within 10mi for the most part. If you want to head a little further offshore, hit up the Jackspot or the Fingers, more blues than you will know what to do with. Pull some hootchies and some diving plugs and you will hit em so hard you cant hold your arms up at the end of the day.

Shark: inside of 25mi. you should head to the jackspot or fingers areas again. This is your best bet for consistent action. I have actually seen a small mako come up and eat a big sea bass in half not 4 miles off the beach, but for consistant action, jackspot or fingers.

Tuna: Last season we were getting small (very small) bluefin at the jackspot. Generally they make a stop there every year, but listen to reports and go from there.

Hope this helps, there are hundreds of spots out there. Join the OC reef foundation ($25) and the numbers of wrecks and reefs that they will send you is GREAT!

let me know if there is anything else i could help you with.

Thanks guys for the great info, the only problem I see is that im fishing in Ocean City, New Jersey, not Maryland...lol....sorry about the screwup, i feel like a total jackass! Anyway, im sure the methods are similar, but ill have to work on finding the hotspots. Do you know of a good inshore tuna trolling spread? Will a spread of just cedar plugs produce and how about Zuker feathers?

For inshore bluefins, I have pulled an array of things, I have found the 2 best colors to be green and purple. Zuker feathers are great. When I am inshore, I have a big purple zuker behind a flock of birds and it works great. Cedars cant be beat, I have never tried it, but i have no doubt that a spread just of cedar plugs would produce. Also, dont forget the meat, always works great, no matter where you are.

as for other lures, try a tuna clone, green maching, ilander, etc. For some reason, inshore i have had better success with bullet shaped heads, not big chuggers or scoops, in the blue it is a little different though

    Good luck out there.
